"Old" gamer has to say something

Where to start? I’m almost 30 years old and I’ve quite complex taste in my online fps history. My favorite games have been Action Quake, Quake Arena, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory (best game ever IMO) and Battlefield from Bad Company to BF3. All of these games had their pros and cons but they had their own original ways to do some crazy stuff…and I enjoyed them all.

This game shares so much elements from the games from my past that I’m dying from inside to see that it’s failing. It had it all:

interesting classes
ok balance
fast action
good learning curve
funny brit accent and dry humor that I enjoy

But what happened? You guys didn’t want to hear we, the community and make this game with us to the point where it would have been the next big thing. I’m not even sure that should I even touch this game any more (300hrs) because you act like we are some kind of thin air to you. This is like a bad marriage and I’m not sure where to go with this thing.

And what happens next? Devs are deleting this because they can’t handle the truth? The game has been out for ages and it’s still “BET A PLAY”.

It might be poorly worded, but I get what he is saying, and until last month I was in agreement. Although I do have a little bit of hope left. It feels like they’ve changed their approach a little bit, and its definitely for the best.

You’ll probably find a lot of people agree with you.

This game has huge potential and I love it more than any game I think I’ve ever played (and that is a big statement from someone like me who has been playing Quake for 20 years).

It flopped way faster than I expected it to. The competitive scene in general at least. Our public servers seem to be just as populated as ever though, so the game is far from dead.

I still believe it can bounce back and be one of the best competitive FPS titles out, but time is of the essence. It’s the slow development that has driven people away more than anything else, and unfortunately I don’t see this getting any better.

I think most people hang around because the gameplay is so damn good. That’s what’s keeping me here at least. They need a new plan of attack to boost ranked and competitive if they ever want it to be a competitive title though. Double credits just doesn’t really cut it.

Over last week I been thinking more and more how this game needs to be ranked only , it’s the only way there’s going to be balance in games , maybe make it so you only obtain card cases from ranked match .

Keep server browser by all means , that way you can still have casual matches to warm up with and to have fun with friends or try out new Mercs without crippling your team .

Interesting. Someone was saying this to me yesterday as well, that they feel the game should be ranked only.

Über-high tier players should not even play with lower levels. When somebody starts to play this game and gets ultimatily rekt few rounds it is more than extremely possible that he doesn’t even return to play this thing. I think that the MOST of the servers should be like:

0-5 only
6-10 only
11-20 only
21-∞ only

The playerbase is too small to divide people up completely.

Matchmaking should try to give fair games, but it shouldn’t completely rule people out from being able to play each other because they are too far apart in skill IF there isn’t enough people on to match them properly.

If the game had 20,000 more players then sure, but in its current state if we ruled out the uber-tier players from the rest they wont be able to play at all, which is just as unhealthy.

This. Honestly all the annoying performance issues really kill my mood to play, but I can never find any other game that could get me this addicted. I’ve asked my friends who quit DB and none of them have ever really found something that could scratch the itch left by this game.

Do you see any other online shooters like DB? Except ET: Wolfenstein (but that game is server mod junkyard).

Sadly, there ain’t no other game like DB. Some people, like me, don’t have a choice. Even after trying all kinds of online shooters.

no man, the SD are not “not listening to you”. they are listening alright.

but, like in real life,
you can just reeee to get chicken tendies
some choices like keeping fletcher overpowered
are needed to be weighed first, need to be discussed first.
They arent magician, they cant just make sparks viable again
make every choices appear like magic without consideration.

I disagree the game needs to be ranked only, we just need community servers, a proper tutorial, offline practice, and perhaps fine tuning of weapons for consistency and counterplay.

“almost 30 years old” LOL, I have computers older than you, I agree W:ET was one of the greatest games ever, but disagree with everything else

@Watsyurdeal “tutorial ?” nah, W:ET had no tutorial of any sort and was one of the single most popular online games for years, I know people who had played for a year before they even knew a manual came with the game, they learned from forums and in game

I honestly don’t believe high level players should be denied the ability to play with lower level players. Some times in order to get good you have to face the worst. that works both ways I think.
Plus there are the smurf accounts to contend with. low level players who already have much FPS skill.
I think the main thing to remember is that there are players who can and will adjust their skill level depending on who they are playing against. Those players can blend in with different skill levels.
Then there are players that simply won’t adjust their skill for one reason on another. They have valid reasons as far their life is concerned. Unfortunately these are the people who end up pub stomping because they can with out mercy. Unfortunately when they do so they drive many players away simple because those leaving players don’t want to play with that kind of player. These kinds of players need a specific place they can go to be themselves and fight against one another because I think that is just what they want to do. ranked should help with that itch but I don’t think it solves it.
