Okay, Splash Damage, You Win. I Love You more than DICE now.

I’ll admit it: I’m a Call of Duty fanboy. I grew up on Call of Duty and then made the transition to being a DICE fanboy. I loved how teamwork was stressed in every Battlefield game…

…But Splash Damage took it a step further and didn’t wussy out when it came to implementing teamwork. Things that DICE tried to do (ammo only from teammates, limited supplies, etc.) honestly weren’t done well enough to discourage lone-wolfing; it happened far more often than it should have.

I’ve never played any ET games on the PC, but I may just start if this is how SD does teamwork.

I’ve been on this game for about ten hours now and not once have I played a game that was severly lacking in teamwork – sure, some games were lacking, but not in the grand sense where it wasn’t even worth playing anymore. Even casual gamers I know were able to hop in and contribute in small ways and ultimately helped us win a few matches.

I honestly thought epic moments were going to be removed from a game like this…I just spent thirty minutes dashing around as a skinny soldier delivering ammo to all of my teammates as we attempted to stop the hostage from ecaping. The enemy would use the lift, defend it, and even repair it after I destroyed it. We buffed each other, healed each other, and saved each other. It was down to the wire and we almost lost, but we managed to pull it out.

This game is epic.

Thank you, Splash Damage, for finally giving me a game that is both easy and insanely fun to play as a part of a team.

I haven’t been able to play MP yet, but I reckon that removing the K/D from the scoreboard is a really good decision by SD. Even in Battlefield a lot of guys are too obsessed with their K/D-E-Peen and most of those snipers in bushes on hills sabotage a streamlined and nice teamplay in my view.

Good thing is: the Brink-maps are fairly small and sniping won’t happen. And thanx to SMART you are constantly on the move.

I love it already to death

I’ve seen a few snipers, not a lot but a few

I have played BC2 for a bit before the release of Brink (had lost interest in BC2 nearly 6 months ago). And it still is a sniper-ridden-POS-game. And most servers I went on are severly unbalanced (6 versus 10 etc.). No teamwork possible etc. ! Therefore I don’t mind some snipers in Brink, but they will be the exception I presume :stroggtapir:

Thanks for the impressions, Pilgrim! It sounds awesome in all the important ways.

Can’t wait! (Apparently it is being shipped by Fed Ex tonight. Should have it in my hot hands by Friday.)

This game is really quite good, even if it isn’t exactly everyone’s cup of tea. I play many shooters myself, and I enjoy each one for different reasons may it be for singleplayer or multiplayer: Battlefield Bad Company 2 (PC), Medal of Honor (PC), Homefront (PC), Halo Reach (Xbox 360), Battlefield Play4Free (PC), Crysis 2 (PC), Team Fortress 2 (PC), and many others. Bad Company 2 most likely has my most playtime on Steam with 500 total hours; I love that game. But Brink looked to be a great alternative, like many other games I get to serve as ‘alternatives’.

After playing for a few hours, I am starting to realize how good Brink is. It is such good fun, and I am very good at it and really starting to understand the mechanics. Even as a heavy body type, I still dash around, sliding and vaulting over obstacles which I have a good time doing; playing the class I NEED to play as to attain victory, doing various objectives, and buffing/helping my teammates. This is honestly some of the most fun I ever had, and the performance issues are something I can endure for the time being because this game’s fun factor is through the roof! Now I don’t even know why so many haters or critics exist against this game! What were they expecting, anyway? And no, I am not going to start talking about CoD, that is a tired thing to say; because I LIKE CoD as well, as I am a shooter enthusiast. But CoD or many other shooters aren’t nearly as satisfying in terms of weapons, because by far Brink has the most badass weapons in terms of sound and design, they are so fun to use! Also, even walking or running in Brink is fun, because of the sound of your armor rattling and whatnot; so whoever said this game has terrible sound design is foolish, because I can hear the sounds of gunfire quite clearly in the distance which gives a great sense of epic largescale warfare!

Okay, I think I should quit hyping this game up; it’s not the BEST game out there, but it is definitely a good alternative that I am happy to put into my collection!

I love it too, I’ll love it even more when they patch it up

No problem. I would post a “review” but you guys have seen enough of those and enough impressions to hold you over.

The least I could do was let Splash Damage know that they nailed exactly what they were going for. In an interview with Pixel Enemy, Ed Stern commented that with most online games they “would have the best time or the worst time and really nothing in the middle.”

Brink totally destroys that idea, and - sans lag - it gives you either a great time or a phenomenal time with everything in between.

Personally, I’ve been starved for a true teamwork game and Brink just does it for me.

Yeah i love DICE but Splash Damage stole my heart with this, they did everything i liked about DICE and did it even better. Now heres to hoping they 1up DICE in my books again and dont take 6+months to get some new maps and add ons. Honestly would love to get any extra content ASAP, game feels a bit light at times but can never get tired of a great game.

(acare84) #18

I can’t wait for the game too, living in Europe. :frowning:

(Azev2000) #19

Splash Damage is great but please do not compare them YET to the phenom that is DICE.

(ThePilgrim101) #20

Actually, I will. I’ve been a DICE fan since Modern Combat.

Battlefield is an amazing franchise and I’ve defended each Battlefield’s merits fairly. However, DICE hasn’t been able to capture in on making the teamwork between players viable on Day one the same as SD has. For example, BC and BC2 we’re both great team games, but it wasn’t stressed enough and you had medic only healing themselves, Ammo only being given to themselves, and a swath of recon players using a sniper rifle from three bases away.

The last three Battlefield installments on consoles have been summarized by, “This is a team game!..but only if you want to.” There were more than enough effective ways to lone-wolf, and many people in BC2 still don’t even join a squad.

SD took that idea, looked at the playerbase and said, “No, %*# you, you’re going to play as a team and you’ll bloody like it.” That, to me, is what a team game should be.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love DICE…I just love Splash Damage a bit more now…
