If people are wrecking you from halfway across the map with shotguns it’s because they are hacking. It happens.
Okay - So uh, you know, Shotguns?
I guess we could check the shotgun’s pellet pattern. But in my opinion the spray cone is not turning into a cylinder after a certain distance like most of the game does. That it is realistic and also make shotguns exponentially worse with the distance. The further your target is, the less pellets you’ll land on it. And on top of that, the damage drop off is quite high, it clearly does not help either.
If you look at the spreadsheet, they 3 have around 11 or 12 pellets per shot. At 20m, if you’re able to land 3 of them on your target, you’ve been pretty lucky. Take a best case scenario where you land those in the head, which is totally impossible. The max head dps for shotgun is 192 (remburgh) with 12 pellets landing. So it’s 48 with only 3. Considering a 25% damage drop off at 20m, which is not over-rated in my experience, you end with 36 dmg per shot. The cycle of a shotgun is 0.7s. So you’ll do 72 dps in the first two shot. That’s poor if you consider that any smg/machine pistol has an higher dps than this and will not experience that sort of damage drop off at 20m.

Implying we didn’t already have shotgun complaint threads before phantom.

Of course, but did they actually have merit, or just another thread where they complain about something without having any discussion or any bullet points to talk about.
Or how about the Nader Martyrdom threads, that literally seemed to happen once a day
Or the Fragger and Aura threads…they move on from complaining about one thing to another, with nothing good to bring to the discussion. Then they get emotional when called out on their shit.

Pretty good use of numbers in theorycrafting, but I think you forgot to account for damage falloff with range — Shotguns have a decent falloff iirc, and ultimately the ~850 unit (inches, essentially) max range.
I’ve gotten some pretty solid hits at around 400 to 500 units with shotguns, putting in around 20-40 damage. Definitely not one-shot droppers but definitely catches someone off-guard when they think all they have to do is backpedal five to ten steps to be immune to a shotgunner’s presence.
I have to slightly agree that shotguns do have a little too much range. The 5 shot shotty being able to deal 40 damage at a medium range (around 10m) is a bit too high. Keep the damage but increasing the spread will definitely help automatics when fighting in a medium range, but still giving the shotties an edge in CQB
Wooot?n You call >10m medium-range?
Sorry, but in my vocabulary CQC is like under 15m, and Med-range starts at ~20/25m.
Man, if Shotguns would be deadly in CQC, which is <10m, then you could also use the melee-attack
(I exaggerate, I know, but I think you catch my drift)
Out of all the weapons groups I thought Shotguns were the most balanced honestly. I feel like each has its area of expertise and none are overtly OP.
