I just wanna know where the hell all the movies are. To date I have only found one. Anybody have links to more Doom 3 movies?

havent you people heard??? doom III only supports 4 players in MP!!! heres the article: http://gamespy.com/quakecon2003/doom3/

I’m sure you have a point in there somewhere…

That’s only the Quakecon Demo prototype , the finish product will have prolly up to 32 players.

The engine can scale up to 32 (perhaps more), but you won’t be seeing that in the final product from Id. The multiplayer modes that they’re working on for the final product indeed max out at four players. Anything larger they are leaving to the mod community.

I don’t know, it has yet to impress me yet. HL2 looks better.
Hopefully they will release more stuff about it.

I agree about Half Life 2. The movies speak volumes about the quality of this game.

Download Valve’s Steam Client and it will automatically grab all 7 of the currently released Binks Videos, Extremely high res, high quality HL2 Video, as well as full versions of Halflife, Counterstrike, Team Fortress Classic, Deathmatch Classic, Opposing Force, Riccochet, and Half Life Server. My average download speed from Valve’s Steam Server has been 1.5mb/Sec!

Well worth the download, it will automatically patch any current or future valve game or mod to latest version. They claim they will be adding much more content to the Steam platform in the near future, and I believe you can actually purchase HL2 through Steam as well (hopefully, discounted…).

i was kinda excited about doom 3 at first, then when they mentioned the mp only being able to handle 4 players and the list of OLD guns…i was extremely dissappointed. so i’m not worried about it anymore.
still plan on playin halo, hl2 and t3 though!

Yep, it’s typical Id:

  1. Create kick-ass game engine
  2. Create half-assed game to essentially act as demo for engine
  3. License engine
  4. ???
  5. Profit!!!

Id has pretty much stated that the focus for Doom 3 is on the single-player. It may cut into their retail sales, but the largest bulk of their revenue is from the engine licensing anyway, so I doubt they care.

The thing I find most amusing is that ID are drafting in all these specialist people - animators from hollywood CG companies, script writers, effects gurus, amazing artists. But they haven’t quite realised that ID have yet to create a truly great single player game (bar Doom which was only really great because it was unique at the time). They can draft in all the experts they want, but if they don’t bring in some kick ass game designers early on (which is a bit late now) the game can still suck monkey balls.

I’m not saying it definitely will lean towards simian genital quaffing, but their track record isn’t promising.

It might be fun for SP, but certainly not for MP. I probably won’t get this game. Looks like a techdemo to me for other developers. Maybe if SP is long enough it would be worth the cash.
