SD failed on the mp which is why it was such a mess. Don’t re-write history please.
OH now I get it, see I wasn't here for Quake Wars...
Ok so based on this thread I have gathered the following.
SD only made a couple maps for RTCW.
W:ET Single player sucked (made by another company) and multiplayer w/o mods sucked (made by SD)
QW:ET made by SD sucked until the pro mod came out
I’m not hearing a lot of successes here on SD’s part. So based on knowing all that why did anyone think Brink would be a good game?
Or
Am I just misinterpreting what I’m reading?
ETQW wasn’t advertised at all as far as I know.
The ONLY reason I heard about it (apart from this website) was when I was playing wolfenstein enemy territory and typed in my browser http://www.enemyterritory.com and then I saw ETQW.
Imagine my surprise
(Lol, it seems nowadays it gives a blank activistion page)
Thank god I made a full local copy of the website so I can still look at it if I want xD
From this, do I understand correctly. Have you got a cache of the entire site ? Every thread and post ? That makes you very valuable. Do you really have an entire copy of the whole site :o Any way we can all get a copy of this ? Thats a gaming museum piece that is.
Great question. My group of friends have been playing since RTCW beta and I can tell you simply: everyone is PRAYING for a new RTCW style game - classes, same movement, same sort of smgs.
So we HOPE for each of these games not to suck and they let us down every single time. It’s pathetic.
ETQW suffered under external factors, the competition was high and it didn’t get the promotion it deserved. Brink had no competition and deccent promotion.
Grab it, right now it’s as populated as Brink but a much more fulfilling experience. I wish I could start it again, discover everything and find new tricks. Get it on the PC though, the console versions weren’t done by SD.
Even the graphics can be jaw-dropping at times. Even until now, years later games haven’t been able to match such amazing terrain.
?!?!?! Dear God!!! i gotta pick it up on PC the XBox version is a piece of crap.
ETQW is the way to go you fresh piece of food
Played it from (almost) the start and except for SoF2 and Q3 I never played a game that much, enjoyment wise it is by far the best game of all time to me, plain and simple, every game is different and I still find myself excited after a great defence or attack with some coordinated mates, epic vehicle hold, fly raping with the “'copters”, instakill with sniper flick shot coming from nowhere… Man these are EPIC moments!
Peace
SD does not suck. Their past publisher, though, sucks enormously!
I think the first instance of objective based fps as we know it now occurred in q1tf maps “canal” and “town2/4” a couple years prior to the release of RTCW.
W:ET may have given you and yours friends something you never experienced before- but it didnt create the wheel here- it simply Expanded on RTCW universe…
yea, your right. but now i remember something really important why rtcw didnt have that impact on me and my friends. here in germany rtcw is “indexed”. you cant buy it, because of the nazi symbols. and we couldnt import it, because we didnt have internet. all we had was the beach demo. that was awsome.
but i honestly dont remember most of it. i wasnt cynical there, it was a long time ago, and you know, there were alcohol an other stuff on the lan parties we played the rtcw demo
. just wanted to make this clear.
A few questions from someone who did not play W:ET’s original release and did not play ETQW. It looks like everyone here is saying that it basically took third party modders to make those games playable. What was the community like back then while you waited for the various pro mods to arrive? i.e. in Brink, almost the entire PC community has stopped playing the game ENTIRELY in roughly 1 month. I bet it wasn’t like that for W:ET, though I hear it might have been similar for ETQW. I’d imagine that at the least, ETmain had viable/entertaining pub play (which Brink does not) so the whole community didn’t drop the game so fast. And assuming SD ever releases a SDK and someone makes “BrinkPro” do you see Brink experiencing even a fraction of the resurgence that ET/ETQW did after they received promods?
Incorrect, Quake Wars was EPIC, fast paced, tactical, objective based shooter that was also a twitch-death match style First Person Shooter. It had fun vehicles, great balance, excellent teams (clear teams without colour skins), great class variety of skills, huge maps and fantastic graphics that ran well on mediocre PC’s.
It was a game that suited the modern, evolved, fast paced, multi-skilled, tactical gamer, that left COD-style TDM players feeling overwhelmed, so sadly, they sought refuge in simple point-click-die “gameplay” and currently reside on Hardcore cod/BF (or similar) servers feeling 1337… bless them…
SD did a great job patching it, even after the publisher abandoned support, SD made one final patch for the community out of their own pocket!!!
All the pro mod thing did was take away spread so the old fashioned Quake players did not have to learn to cope with weapon spread (poor babies), limit classes and weapons (whaaambulance, “too many Hyperblaster Aggressors!!!”) etc… for the guys that want the game to match what “they” think the game should be like to be fair (spit) in competition, not public play, where the real fun is!!! :stroggbanana:
SD have a great track record and are adding to it with the BRINK patching of the community’s concerns and the proven track record of my 400 hours of playing Quake Wars since launch!!!

I was saying the opposite. W:ET is nearly unplayable thanks to the fungal mod overgrowth.

You’re reading a lot of posts by RTCW fanataics who will crush anything slightly different to RTCW. The simple fact that ET:QW has the word “vehicles” in it put the game out of their equation from the get go.
I’ve not played RTCW so I won’t comment on their tastes, etc… but you’ll also find a lot of players happy with what ET:QW had to offer. Based on QW, I expected better from Brink
Me + (original player base - both current players) = everyone who agrees with me.
Im one of the original playerbase, so are many of my Clanmates we have been together playing the game since 03
So dont use my name in a statement like that that is not only false but plain stupid
There is noway you can explain that etmain would have lasted as the only mod. ET would have been gone years ago if it hasnt been for etpro, etpub, jaymod, noquarter etc etc
easy to check btw, just search for etmain servers
Believe what you like, but the single player was totally removed, and the MP portion was launched because it did work, albeit with some bugs, which were ultimately remedies with patches due to the popularity of the game. SD did the MP, which was “successful”, I would say.
good question- dont know the answer-
many fellow W:ET and QW’s and old timer RTCW are not happy with Brink… fell it’s way to ‘console’ with it’s limited customization… and am not talking hair color … am referring to key binds for example… myself, i hate the F key being used for a number of different task… W:ET and QW’s you could config to your hearts content - i had my mouse buttons responsible for reviving, another button dropping med packs-- an so on… with Brink you cant do that… its all “F” (or one key)
can a pro mod fix it? am sure it could… will it, dont know- or will it matter? again dont know…
doesnt look good… most people i know, went back to QW’s…
But hey—
all you have to do is download the QW’s demo and the start the game - and SEE HOW MANY CHOICES you have- all the customization you can do- it will blow your MIND MAN! lol… and then open the Server Browser! see all that it offers… (if you can- not sure, you can with the demo) trust its pretty dam good!
Link to the demo http://www.splashdamage.com/node/221
or use Steam- they still have it…
and then go play Brink -
Huge F’ing let down man… Huge!! PC gamers expected more than what they got… especially after QW’s… well, at least i did…
Etqw for me is STILL the benchmark ALL other FPS games have yet to reach.
Its variety, diversity and scale are amazing.
The PC version is beautiful,
The old update console ports are pretty good.
The leaderboards on PS3 i think demonstrate how captivating to play the game is(even on console), a lot of players having 100,000 minutes or more playing.
Just a shame u guys found out about this game almost 3 years too late…
Grab a copy if u can find one. It will not dissapoint.
The PC version was bliss. I bought it at release, and played it constantly until BC2 came out. ETQW was a great mix of indoor/outdoor and infantry/vehicle and ASYMMETRIC gameplay.
Brink doesn’t have me hooked like ETQW did, but I haven’t given up yet.
ETQW was in my opinion the best teamplay/objective-based game ever made. I played it until I got sick of no new content after several years then jumped on BC2 until Brink came out and even if I like it, I can still say I had more fun when I was on ETQW back then, good old time. Will prolly stick to Brink until BF3 is out.
SD you guys should get quake wars up on Xbox Marketplace. You’d make a killing with Brink players that keep forgetting to grab ETQW while they are at the store.
And you could promote Brink in the in-game advertisements…lol
