Oh jeez..... Brink preview in XBW360

(weeschwee) #61

this is why a demo would be helpful. so we can all try it for ourselves!

(LOGic1607) #62

Should I remind you… It’s a Preview!!!
Probably a CODFag previewing it.

(DarkSlayer54) #63

I don’t see how anyone can even score it yet… I’m expecting to see a 7-8 out of 10 after it’s release. Those reviewers had better not give anything less than that…

I’m starting to worry again and kind of glad I live in the UK as I will get the US input about the game before I purchase.

Maybe Splash Damage should have just stuck to producing only the PC only version and let another developer do the Xbox and PS3. Also I’m starting to worry that the game is being released before finished on Bethesda command as if this game is not up to scratch it would have been found out at E3 if shown.

(Gamer2Gamers) #65

I got a HD PVR and i’ll be giving this game a run but like everyone else i’ll have to wait until release but i’ll put it to use so the people who are undecided can see what the lobby looks like and all sorts of things that are questionable but for the console of course (cause it’s what I am buying BRINK on) - just so you can get a fellow gamers perspective.

The game is being released a week early. I doubt they would have released it earlier than planned if the game wasn’t finished…

I have a few gaming magazines I really do trust and all of them were totally excited about BRINK after the London-Event (played on PS3).
Personally I haven’t come across a single bad preview of BRINK up to now.

Quotes like ā€œWhat’s more Brink BOMBARDS you with info from the start, making the first few games a lesson in losing rather then funā€ only make this article appear even more dubious.
What is it that complexity has become a no-go for games, games only seem to be good if you can win right away, without any practice.

No, it’s actually a good point. Singleplayer games are supposed to have a learning curve. They start out a little bit easier, introduce you to the mechanics 1-by-1 and then get harder and in the end you have to use all your knowledge and everything you have collected. Brink’s SP is based on MP though and the first mission is as hard as the last mission (most likely). Unless they have a really good tutorial for each of the classes before then it is incredibly overwhelming for a new player who wants to play the singleplayer.

It doesn’t affect me personally, but it’s definitely an issue.

(LyndonL) #69

That’s what challenges are for - to teach you the mechanics in a pressure free environment.

By the way, the magazine is Xbox World 360.

It’s published in the UK by Future publishing. I will mention it is one of the lesser known magazines. The top Xbox 360 UK magazine is OXM. (Official Xbox Magazine) which is also published by Future. In my honest opinion this is a much lower quality magazine and is more aimed at the younger market, those more impressed by free gifts than good journalism. When I had my Xbox 360 I purchased 12 issues of OXM and 1 issue of Xbox World 360 and found OXM to be far superior throughout the 12 months.

This is obviously not exactly a first in the gaming community history but I find it amusing how you guys find 100 reasons not to give this preview not too much credit but in the other hand would be SO excited and thrilled if the review was being very positive, just saying :stuck_out_tongue:

(THEJORRRG) #72

Yeah, it’s a review of the PS3 Beta…so…it’s worth basically nothing.

(tokamak) #73

I would be highly skeptical of any review released before the release date. You can do that for singleplayer games, but for multiplayer games it’s not on.

(Zekariah) #74

The best part of all this panic posting in this thread is that it is over one preview. ONE PREVIEW! I reckon its bloody awesome that its just one we are freaking out about.

But a couple of bad previews/reviews just goes to show how gold this game will be, but is not gonna get overhyped like Homefront or COD where there would be a HUGE margin for disappointment.

(Mustkunstn1k) #75

Well, they better let people know of these things before they start playing then. I mean… they are called ā€œchallengesā€. No one thinks of trying to tacle the challenges before playing the actual game itself.

(riptide) #76

No I wouldn’t I don’t let a couple peoples opinions effect me good or bad… now when the majority starts to agree I’ll pay more attention to it… But I’ll still try to discredit the information good or bad. However I’ll entertain your argument and point out there are way more previews that liked it than didn’t. They just didn’t score it and rightfully so.

I’ve heard some negative reviews. Or… well, not negative, but not-positive reviews. I recall WoodysGamertag, who I generally like to listen to, said it was pretty much ā€œmeh.ā€ Not bad, actually pretty fun, but not something he was planning on buying, if I recall. And I mean, I’m excited, but it’s nowhere near the level of absolute sureness that I have when I think about, say, BF3. I want it, it’s really special to me, but it’s not a blockbuster, it’s just something really cool.

(PopeTackler) #78

The same people who are panicking now would be the ones rejoicing if the preview was positive.

If I’m not sure about whether to buy a game I’ll rely mostly on word of mouth from friends or I’ll watch a GiantBomb Quick Look to get a feel for the actual gameplay from actual gamers. If you completely rely on what a reviewer has to say in his/her own words, interjected with cutscenes from videos we’ve already seen, who then slaps an arbitrary number to convey the game’s worth, then you’re not making an informed decision before purchasing the game.

Edit: This is the ā€œpreview reviewā€ from WoodysGamertag talking about how he thinks it’s an interesting concept, just probably not for him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMmH-CZOP9s

(Slade05) #79

BF3 and absolute sureness in one sentence always cracks me up.
Have you seen the ****ing MG? It`s an affront!

(iheartchainsaw) #80

Nobody is panicing we’re simply trying to point out that it was wrong to call this a review. If Ben at Ars reviews this game and hates it I will panic. Other than that I think most of the guys on this forum don’t really give a **** about reviews.(least I don’t can’t speak for everyone)
