Oh jeez..... Brink preview in XBW360

(naedae) #1

i was on bethesdas forums and someone pointed out that they just got there xbox magazine and brink got a 3/5 ( VERY dissapointing )

so the magazine said the customization / SMART is cool, but the gameplay is lacking and is nothing like the gameplay videos.

Now, before u say dont trust reviews, allow me to remind u of homefront. it was met with bad reviews but ppl suggested to ignore them. i did, and regretted it because the critics were 100% correct about that game.

i will pay close attention to other reviews before i purchase. i was hoping for a great new IP, but it looks like ima wait to see on may 10. ill also look here for ur opinions. if bad, hello LAN

What’s the name of the magazine?

(Mustkunstn1k) #3

I wonder what exactly in the gameplay department is lacking? I mean it shouldn’t matter that they are playing the console version?

The problems I imagined people having is not enough content maybe, but yeah. W

All in all, I didn’t expect 5/5 scores, but rather 4/5.

Personally, I don’t see this affecting me. Because unless something is really wrong then I will still enjoy it. Brink definitely goes for a specific demographic… I am that demographic.

PS: If it’s OXM then they have a 100 point scale, not 5.

Alow me to remind u that there is only RPS to trust.

(CapnHowdy21) #5

I just don’t see how all the previewers could walk away talking about how excited they are to play more, then come back and say the gameplay sucks.

(mestido) #6

Actually HOMEFRONT got a lot of good reviews, in the end the game was kinda bad.
So this “reviews” are kinda… you know…

(tokamak) #7

In fairness, they’re in their right to do that. They can genuinely be disappointed about a game. Though I wonder what he possibly could’ve based his findings on, is there a journalist server running right now?

(CapnHowdy21) #8

If it is the thread I think hes talking about, supposedly it was an Xbox magazine playing the PS3 beta. Which is pretty outdated at this point in time.

(Mustkunstn1k) #9

I would imagine that there are a ton of people playing Brink right now online… specially since the console versions don’t need dedicated servers to be up.

Usually journalists play with each other, but there are all kinds of other random people too (hell, people from Betheda might be playing it :D)

Wait, why did they score a beta? I guess they missed the point of betas.

This.

Although they dont touch consoles…luckily!

(iheartchainsaw) #11

I check out the beth forums daily and haven’t seen one thing about this. Link please? If its OXM then I could care less about their opinion. Also like Must said its not going to be for everyone but if you like these type of games its going to rock.

(At the Gates) #12

Checked the Bethesda Brink forums and Steam forums. No info regarding this review the OP is talking about.

Edit: Seems there is a thread talking about some review but its hardly believable.

(iheartchainsaw) #13

I found the thread its titled Brink Flaws. From a mag I’ve never heard of I think its UK based so i don’t know how much to trust it. Just from the OP it sounds like they played ONE level so Wtf.

(SockDog) #14

Even ETQW was met with pretty impressive scores and that seemed to be criticised for being complicated. If someone has genuinely scored this 3/5 then clearly they’ve misunderstood what the game entails. That said, “You’re playing it wrong”, is not a viable excuse. If people don’t get the game or have expectations beyond what the game delivers then this is something of a marketing and/or design failure.

(LyndonL) #15

Severe fail on the mag’s behalf if they based a review on a beta. What is with gamers these days? Do they not understand the purpose of a beta?! The meaning of the word beta has been freaking ruined by EA.

(Diablo85) #16

So one ‘review’ is ‘negative’ and you want to start a mass panicking? Give me a break. Stop being so pessimistic.

(iheartchainsaw) #17

What it sounds like to me is they skipped the tutorials, didn’t watch the vids and just started on a random map not knowing what to do or what the game is about. I hate to sound like a fanboi but it just sounds like these guys sucked at the game and couldn’t figure it out.

That being said 3/5 is about what I am expecting from smaller mags and sites cause they usually don’t know Wtf they are talking about, have horrible reviewers who can’t write a decent review.

And I wouldn’t really call this a mass panic Diablo just trying to see where this review is coming from.

(PopeTackler) #18

I’m surprised that someone would hold off on buying the game based on one pre-release reviewer that could very well be a hoax.

And without linking the original thread… christ, people.

The OP of “Brink Flaws?” on Bethesda’s forums:

Now.
Brink looks like an amazing game but some magazines are being negative about it.Let me show you (Cut from a mag):
“Worryingly, however, for all its good ideas,Brink isn’t firing on all cylinders. This month’s hands-on session was PS3 code only, and if it’s an indicator on how the game is going to run on xbox360, it’s neither as smooth nor good looking as the videos suggest.
What’s more Brink BOMBARDS you with info from the start, making the first few games a lesson in losing rather then fun”

Another paragraph says that “If Brink doesn’t sell well things could get very tricky for SD”
To be honest I’m a bit worried for Brink,What happens if it isn’t as good as we thought it would be?And if it doesn’t sell well, will SD have to shut down?(Hope not!)
Any ideas,opinions?

I’m not hating on the game,I love it no matter what.I just hope SD doesn’t get shut down because of it.

I don’t know how well it runs on the consoles. But I will be playing the PC version so it won’t affect me, I can always tweak with settings.

And the rest of it doesn’t really seem an issue. I mean I imagine what it will be harder for new people because I am not sure if Brink even has an actual tutorial. People want to play singleplayer and they start with the aquarium mission right away and will be confused. But in the end… they did put things like the dossier videos etc. Shouldn’t really be a problem.
