Unlike the CGO one, this actually gives some good, new info.

PlanetQuakeWars.net: Last but not least, when can we play the first time online? It dosen’t matter if its just a demo or the final version!

Kevin Cloud: This year for sure.

You can stop worrying now

The game is being delayed because they want to make sure that it is relatively bug free upon its release. Companies like EA and even Ubisoft lately have been pushing titles out under the flag, “We’ll fix it later.”
I have never had an ID software title that didn’t run straight out of the box, and as long as this remains true, they can delay it as long as they want.

Try not to think of it as, “they are delaying the game.” Think, “they’re putting the patches on NOW so I don’t have to later.”

Starcraft Ghost fell apart due to management issues centered around blizzard. I don’t know who’s fault it is, but Ghost vanished because it was contracted out to another studio, and that studio either went under or failed to perform to blizzards expectations. I assure you blizzard is more upset about this than their fans are because they had even put enough money into the project to release high-res cinematics online before it “vanished.”

The idea of “deadlines” is lethal to the game industry. While it forces people to remain on task by setting strict deadlines, it also means that if a problem arises, there is no time to correct it before release. This is why we see some games with patch number V.-5.98476b five months to a year after release. It’s not an easy task to program a game that has to run on any of a million different combinations of motherboards, video cards, processors, chipsets, audio cards, windows service pack numbers.

I respect any developer who has the balls to say, “We NEED more time to make it right.”

Ok.

Post count is more important than any real-life achievement. Every post goes onto my permanent record of e-greatness.

Honestly, I think that there is no need for doom-mongering. The game will come in due time, like fine wine. Er, and Belgian beverages, too, I suppose. And stroyent, although that is best when served fresh.

Indeed, milestones with a scheduled date could well be beter, at least you can spot time troubles sooner. (Or maybe that’s just my limited POV)

Seconded about the devs. And remember, respect is everything.

Are we there? :blah:

btt:

its a good interview, but i prefere the one with kevin cloud, where really good gameplay-questions ( community questions) were answered.

I’ve been away a while but who’s doing this? I suspect SNIPERSTEVE! j/k…

But nah I suspect the dude that created this inane thread but… I don’t want to be right because I don’t want to go reading 10 more threads saying the same thing, and getting angry :-/

postcount++; wewt!

ABSOLUTELY!!! It’s NOT about liking anyone… heck, you can HATE everyone if you want… but you have to respect them!
