odd question

(KATTman) #1

does ET play faster/better on XP than ME?

(eq-Shrike) #2

I guess if the hardware is the same then it just comes down to drivers , but my personal opinion is that ME blows goat’s balls and I wouldn’t touch it with my mate’s bargepole …

I agree with Shrike, but you should think twice about upgrading to XP if you have 256 MB RAM or less…

I heared that ET plays better on Linux than XP but can’t confirm that. Anybody with a dual-boot system can say something about this ?

(evilsock) #5

Driver support for ME is pants - I ran it on this machine when I first built it - soon swapped over to Windows 2000 though - I promise you’ll notice an immediate speed boost for your nvidia / ati card

(Spooky Fodder) #6

I dual boot Mandrake 10 Linux with WinXP and find them to run pretty close to a dead heat as far as frame rates go.

(KATTman) #7

well believe it or not :stuck_out_tongue: my system is a…

pentium2 416mhz
512mb ram
64mb geforce4 mx 440 8x
using windows ME on a 40gigHD

and i 95% of the time get a very good game out of ET about 95% of speed depending on the xx/32 servers im usually on, just anything over xx/32 users and its choopy…

and now im on duel boot ME,XP would it give a better performance?

(Grimmy_EFG) #8

I didn’t notice any difference whatsoever.

(Grimmy_EFG) #9

It might not give a noticable difference. The best think would be just to try it… You have nothing to loose afterall
