Objective based Gametypes or Conquest mode only?

(baff) #1

My current multiplayer of choice is Hidden and Dangerous 2.

The two multiplayer modes i enjoy are co-op missions and the PvP objective games.

The PvP Objective game is a direct rip off of ET’s inspirational gametypes.

I have been reading on IGN how the gametype they saw was similar to the one found in Unreal, where you must capture linked series of bases to win.

Does anyone know if the themed objective based missions will still be part of the game?

(noob apologies if this question has already been posed).

That’s interesting, capture linked series of bases in ET? Could you please post the quote?

I don’t think anyone would cripple W:ET’s objectives mode…

Conquest = Battlefield1942 / 2 = dominating flags / areas in no particular order
Onslaught = Unreal Tournament 2004 = domination flags / areas in a particular order (with the additional objective to destroy the core / base of the opponent team at the end)

From the readings of the previews I get the impression that ET:QW will have some kind of Onslaught like mode where the teams have to get control of certain areas before the game continues.

I guess someone writing this preview got it wrong. I’m pretty sure it will be the same mode as in W:ET. Thank God!

Well, onslaught is still completely different. There, both teams start from their bases opposite from each other.
W:ET and probably ET:QW has bases around one spot, where the teams start close to each other and both move on. (On team losing terrain, one gaining.)

Actually I think it’s both from reading those articles. Your overall goal is to do some specific stuff much like in ET’s objective based game type. But the map is made up of territories, if you own a territory you can deploy stuff like AA guns, radars etc. If you lose a territory you lose things like deployables and spawn points in that territory etc.

(kamikazee) #7

My point was that the territories are laid out completely different in onslaught vs what I think ET:QW could be.
But you’re explanation quite is what I meant.

In ET:QW your team will just get some areas (maybe ability to set up a spawn there) and try to defend it to take over the level to win the game, this is needed as maps are 32 square kilometers as said in some articles. But ofcourse the objectives will decide who wins. Thats what made ET ET and what will make ET:QW ET:QW and will be a guarantee that teamwork will be archieved.

The megatexture is 32k square, not the maps. If the maps were 32 kilometres square, that would leave us with one texture pixel per metre

geez your not giving much away are you…

(ParanoiD) #11

Hmm, i tought i did read somewhere that the maps (levels, where u play on) are like 32 square kilometers. So digital kilometers, ofcourse not into real world :o. Tough somewhere else 1 square mile was mentioned, so 1.6x1.6 km, while 32 km sq. would be like 5.5x5.5 km.

(Lanz) #12

Err, 1 texture pixel per metre :moo:

(B0rsuk) #13

Actually, 1 pixel per 2 tapirs.

(Wils) #14

No, I really meant one texture pixel per kilometre - our megatexture is 32 pixels by 32 pixels. That’s why it runs so quickly.

…bah

(kamikazee) #15

32x32 pixels, having the huge size of 8 GB, being compressed to about 8MB in video memory. ID must be using magic here!

*Ok, I’d better go back on topic now… :stuck_out_tongue:

they figured out how to turn pastel coloured mini-equines into tapirs, they can do anything

:tapir:
