Objective Based Gameplay Equals...

I’m not as down on Brink as many of you seem to be. Some interesting points in here, though.

I’d agree that more modes and maps are needed, as long as one of them isn’t a pure TDM. CTF meets Brink looks like a strong option.

For the current mode, the ability for an Op to turn a CP into a forward-spawn is brilliant - it would change the game mechanics, back-foot the (usually more comfortable) defenders and give the Op another vital team function - hope SD sees this, great idea.

CTF and map packs would be the way I went, if I was SD. Having seen the dramas some of the maps can have with spawncamping etc, I’d go for numerous, simpler maps, with objectives that are neutrally positioned. Some of the brilliant old UT maps spring to mind - symetrical, relatively simple maps with many different connecting routes.

Whilst I’m loving the current version, Brink could be awesome, if SD are quick enough to respond.

Here’s hoping.

A brilliant idea of turning CPs into spawn points! That would REALLY make capturing CPs worthwhile.

However, you did contradict yourself a little there by complaining about spawn camping. If you spawned at the CP there would be HUGE spawncamping opportunities. But i guess that would be the cost of spawning further into the map. What’s more, a spawn point choice option might be a good addition while down and out.

But great suggestion!

goat72 speaks some good wisdom, Baker. I’m like you and am pretty frustrated with the overall experience…until I started playing with a good group of mates who give a damn.

Playing in an organized team really makes the game rewarding in its own right. When you don’t have all your stupid bot teammates going for a CP instead of the main objective, you actually stand a chance at success, and high fives all round at the end.

I’m not saying there isn’t plenty more to fix in this game, but I’m trying to make my $90AUD worth it until the DLC.

I dunno, maybe it just goes for me. But if you’re looking for a good teammate or two on Xbox, FR Zekariah.

Huh. Yeah. Covert ops turning cps into spawns sounds pretty cool. : O Wonder how that would work out.

(SphereCow) #45
Those aren’t different game modes. Just different objectives.

A different game mode would essentially have an entirely different objective.

Capture the enemies base, or just kill the enemy team, take their flag and return it, etc etc.
Because you’re thinking within paradigms.

SD has always murged multiple gametypes into maps, rather than have gametypes be independent of the map. This enables maps to have a stronger sense of direction with design, similar to SP style gameplay.

“Objective” is essentially “gametype.”

Switched my Engie to a heavy guy and started having some fun with the Gotlung. Great times there.

Im going to hang onto this game for a bit, seeing as how we may have a lag fix next week. Playing this game in matches that consistently have zero lag will probably bring my spirit back.

Although joining a 5v5 match and punishing the team 3 matches in a row with a minigun helped too =D 3 matches in a row best engie and most kills hoorah!

I’ve been screaming at my TV all day

“WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE FLAKING THEM? THERE’S 3 ROUTES TO THE OBJECTIVE!!!”

However, soon I won’t be. People are going to catch on to this whole multiple routes and flanking idea. You’ve just got to give them time. Map balanced CANNOT be addressed until the community at large figures out the best way to attack each objective, and they haven’t had NEAR enough time to do that yet.

You guys are acting like my friend who rebuilds his Magic deck every time he loses one game

My problem right now is the rest of the team not being mic’ed up. If you can maintain a distraction up front and have the rest flank, then yeah the alternative routes can certainly be of use.

I even discovered one I failed to notice before in a match earlier.

But if you’re the only one flanking, you’ll just get smoked when you finally find them. This isn’t your typical shooter where one guy can clear a room.

Yeah. If you ever played ETQW, there was always some kind of super interesting metagame that developed. You’d leave for two months, come back, and discover people doing some crazy stuff you never really anticipated. It was really awesome.

Remember when people first starting using Tormentor to beat Quarry? Or my really obnoxious Supply Crate + rocket launcher combo on the catwalks?

Right now, there certainly are issues with the dynamics that need to be changed, but the gameplay will change over time as people adapt. It’ll happen naturally.

(Bakercompany) #50

I think Engineer turrets could use some love. Like either increased tracking range (without increased shooting range) so the turret can start tracking someone much earlier, and fire on them as soon as they enter range. Or perhaps shave a half a second to a second off the time to acquire a target. Don’t have many other complaints in the gameplay department.

Although I haven’t played operative and they seem to complain a lot about their class.

Yep, I remember the same stuff in ET. You’d come back after a hiatus, and be like wow, they’re doing this map this way now??? Give it time it will happen with brink too.
Prime example is the engineer safe hack level, defenders have a ridiculous advantage to camp out that safe.
That’s no joke. Plus the fact they can keep destroying the hack box and make it even tougher. Spawn times need to be adjusted at a minimum or a forward spawn flag would go a long way.

(X Trigger I) #53

Some games are like that, makes me rage :stuck_out_tongue:

I play 5 v 5 as it doesn’t lag that much, it’s good if your team mates are trying todo the objectives. But i have been in a few games like you mentioned.

(Bakercompany) #54

I won’t lie though, when you’re the one defending sitting up on that balcony with the Drognav…mmmm thats fun. =D

(Jess Alon) #55
I’m hoping this DLC is something brilliant. Especially in the name of new maps.

Theres only 3 that are really fair and playable. The rest feature horrible choke points that give extreme advantage to one side or the other.

Prime example is the engineer safe hack level, defenders have a ridiculous advantage to camp out that safe.
I haven’t found a map yet that I can’t bust past the choke point on. There’s always a hidden way through or even a super obvious one. Unless you’re a heavy. Security is really easy to destroy people on if you know the map because you can run up those boxes then jump down that staircase and get outside.

The more I learn the ins and outs of each level the more fun I have with the game.

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #56

@ title. awesomeness.

(jazevec) #57

What’s needed is more players with experience and imagination, not silly modes like TDM. You played the game for a week - with completely green players - and proclaim the game is boring. The game is boring with boring players. Give players more time to learn about maps, paths, abilities. Try different servers, or just play something else for a week.

(xdc) #58

objectives should take less time to do, and it shouldn’t be possible hold attackers back from doing a objective. defenders should just be able to hold attackers off only for a certain amount of time, with a shorter timelimit on doing objectives. right now its sorta the opposite, feels like less feeling of teamplay, and more of tdm, etc

games should be short, and intense. I’ve had games in brink where it felt like i played one whole game for 30 - 40 minutes

(Zekariah) #59

Speaking of getting to learn maps and paths, Free Roam would be an awesome option in this game!

I’m too involved while playing a match to go wandering, but free roam, or the abiliity to host a match with just yourself in it would be a brilliant opportunity to understand the terrain you are playing on.

Hey, worked for me in Halo.

(Bakercompany) #60

Would be nice to be able to create a 1v1 with a bud to learn the maps.

Also has anyone noticed that even the title screen video it shows of gameplay on the 360 doesn’t look like the actual gameplay? Its much more crisp and defined without all the blur and weird character glow they have now.

Splash Damage, why was our gameplay nerfed so heavily? We seemingly got a wateredx2 down game.
