I personally feel, that i need 5-6 mercs, so that i can play as effective as i can.
i need to have some aces in my sleeve.
i want to be able to surprise opponent.
Number of mercs in a match.
multiple choice vote is not a good idea. it will turn out messy as always…
anyways, 5 mercs, not less for me. Only this allows to not let the team down depending on situation. Even though the classes are gone on paper (classless objectives gimmick), in reality the functionality of all characters is still subdivided in 5 parts - engie, medic, fire support, assault and sniper. Having only 3 of them is an unnecessary castration of tactics and punishes people who like to be more flexible and change function even on every spawn if necessary.

Now I am certain that my answer is going to be an unpopular one however here it is…
I feel in PUBLIC (As in connected into a game via a server browser) you should have access to ALL your Mercs!
However I do feel in Matchmaking I would like to see each team limited to one of each merc with a max selection of 2 per player.
While I understand what you are saying about “aces in your sleeve” and “being able to surprise opponent” I do feel that a major factor of matchmaking should be planned picks and team synergy rather then… “o dang this is not working!!! QUICK 3 SAWBONES AND 2 THUNDER NOWWWW!”
Initially I thought three would be very limiting but now I’ve gotten used to it and it’s fine. It makes you more cognizant of what your teammates pick and how the team will react to different situations. I would like to see SD add slots 4 and 5 for real money as it would probably be a great source of income.
For pub games I think you should be allowed one of each class of merc. If they add unranked public games then all the mercs all the time.
All mercs should be available for selection during the merc selection phase in the lobby.
The limitation should be that you can’t change mercs during a round. This would make the merc selection phase significantly more meaningful.

AMEN!!! This is what I feel but I would like to see a limit of one merc per team.
All mercs should be available in game. Just like all classes were in ET.
“We need an engineer” /kill “i’m an engineer” …
I feel its very restrictive and regressive at the moment, sorry. I also think that pub players would want all mercs available. If SD want to limit it to 1 merc per class in game then that’s a different kettle of fish.
I voted 4 because I admit 3 is painful, but 5 gives too much advantages as the whole team can exchange roles at will. Not sure what the vision of the devs is about this, but I doubt it’s what they want.
I liked limitation being 3. It made me put some effort in my thoughts how I want to help my team and how can I myself answer to many situations as I can and giving some form of flexibility in it. Obviously you cannot do everything at once so with current system you also rely a really much to other players, what I again thought being a cool feature.
It should at least be per round (half of a stopwatch map) rather than enforcing the same mercs when attacking and defending.
Also someone re-joining a round they got disconnected from shouldn’t be given the option to change mercs, otherwise it defeats the entire purpose of having limits.

I actually feel that EACH team can select ONE of each Merc with a max of 2 per player. So you can pick at the beginning of a match roles for each side.
OR
Have a max of ONE merc each player per half with a second selection at the half way point.
OR
Doing both selections at the beginning of the match where you select what merc you will play on each half.
i dont understand how limiting player down to 3 mercs can be good. i only see disadvantages. especially in pubgames.
Like I have said in my orignial post on this thread I feel what I am suggesting now should ONLY be for Matchmaking.
I feel like public games where you connect via the server browser should allow ALL Mercs be selectable at all times.
This is due to the constant joining and leaving of players and the way people will likely play in public compared to a “competitive” matchmaking environment where you would be expected to stay to completion.
Is being unpredictable really a big part in comp matches? Most Players have an unique gameplay type. In etqw for example, I only played med/tech. basically never changed it. Also other players have a favorite class they play 99% of the time. In the beginning there will be some unpredictable choices, but after some matches, you know your opponents favorite play style, and there is imo no real need to have more than 3 mercs in a match. And I also say that you wont be able to play more than 3 mercs on the same high lvl.
I have the same opinion regarding pub games. I would take my2 favorite mercs and take a 3rd one to test.
But I agree, mercs should be changeable between matches, currently (the last time i played xt was 2 months ago) the time to change more than 1 merc is too short. Happend pretty often that I wanted to change a merc and was suddendly locked.
In Titanfall you have 7 pilot slots. But I only use 1 or 2 different pilot layouts in a match. Same for titan layouts.

in Sewer, i used all five classes. changing them if needed.
- stage fops/engie/medic
- medic/soldier/engie
- covert/medic/engie
plus. is there any flaw/defect if a player can choose between, lets say, 5 mercs in a round?
i mean can somebody explain “Oh, c’mon Glottis. dont be silly - if you have 5 mercs selection in a round this makes it much worse, regarding …list of flaws” ?
because i can say this about 3-mercs selection.
