Many of these assets (especially textures and soundfiles) were added to ensure compatibility with certain maps. Instead of calling them “crap” and releasing a non-official pakfile that players will have to download next to the original one (players do usually have more than one server to play on), a full changelog of all your changes (with documentation) would be far more helpful. This would give the NQdevs a chance to go through your changes and decide whether or not to adopt some of those in future NQ versions.
Releasing non-official pakfiles doesn’t help anything, few admins will only use your “fix”, pissing their server regulars off as they have to download yet another file. In the end, you did not help players to save 5MBs but you made them download another 19MBs.

people still have dial up

(Berzerkr) #4

Would be interesting to know wich files you deleted out of the assets.

(nqfan2) #5

Don’t worry this also an official pack.
The original nq dev team decide that nq will be an open source mod. Our team only following thier way.

Sorry - as Jaquboss said - if an other team (an man) can thing that they can only say what is nq or not.

(crapshoot) #6

you packaged up the NQ beta release with your own asset pack? and used the same exact name for it? genius. good luck to the server admins that use this. and to the poor users who have to download a gimped asset pack.

(nqfan2) #7

All last versions of the nq was “beta” no matter if they called stable or not.
Read carefully the changelog: if they added some things to the code, than they messed up with other thing. Total chaos.

Now our team released proper assets for and sooner we will release the proper nq 1.3. which will follow that way what was started by S.S. clan.

(crapshoot) #8

please tell me you are joking. Irata was given control of the official repository with full support of the original NQ devs (and they are still in communication). If you want to branch the last official version that was open source (1.2.7) or even further back (1.2.3) nobody would have a problem with that. trying to hijack the entire project and calling it your own is bad for everyone.

btw, NQ development has been extremely active as of late and a real official 1.3 is right around the corner …

(nqfan2) #9

Now i only showing with the assests a different way. Things can work without “compatibility with certain maps” and players will not notice the difference.

Open source permission was given to the community and not only for this Irata.

As i wrote our 1.3 codes are nearly done by our side and we will release a realy clean and bugfree NQ version within 2-3 weeks.
Some othermod developer help us like from nitmod, so you can be sure it will be on the top.

(Shownie) #10

This is very confusing, who is nqfan2 and where does he come from?

As far as I know the NQ 1.3 isn’t ready yet? Or what is this about x’D

(phisherman) #11

Open source permission was given to the community and not only for this Irata.
What do you need an open source for? All you did is open the assets pack, throw some files out, called it an “assets size fix” and released it with the same name (!). No matter how good or bad your work is, this is a nogo, just like putting maps into the mod-directory.

Anyway, to come back to topic: I tried to point out that solving the size-issue on your own is nothing you make people happy with. Not server admins, not players, not the NQdevs. If you really want to contribute to this community, you should (as I already mentioned) post a list of the files you deleted so NQdevs can see if its wise to adopt those changes.

(IRATA) #12

You’ll help ET a lot if you release another mod with the same name or fs_game path. Do it and you are a hero.

This isn’t a scene anymore … people just following their individual goals instead of supporting their favourite game in total … sad story …

(nqfan2) #13

Try understand: we are the new NQ dev team and we dont need advise from old farts whom leading the NQ to totally wrong way.

(Berzerkr) #14

Very impressive work you did! You’re really the new NQ development team, because you can delete files out of the pk3.

(shagileo) #15

Fans don’t diss their idols
Editing their mod is one thing, but insulting the people who’ve spend hours of work for your enjoyment - that’s just crossing the line

(Cambodunum) #16

… who do you think you are?

(iddqd) #18

Should I start to laugh or what? Maybe I should sympathize with this man’s stupidity…

(-SSF-Sage) #19

This is getting ridicilous. If you want to do the community or NQ a favor, remove this topic and work on a new mod based on NQ or what ever. Don’t even think you are a NQ developer. You never will be. As stated earlier, Irata was given the permission to take over the project by the original developers, not you. If (yeah sure) you would ever got the permission from original devs to take over the project, then you would be the new dev of NQ. Otherwise stay away of NQ!

Even tho something is made an open source, it doesn’t mean that ppl should go making their
random changes to the mod and with the same name release it and call it their own. Soon we will be flooded with different bugged ****ty versions of NQ and NQ (maybe even the whole game) will suffer.

If you want to start a new mod based on NQ, go for it, but don’t forget in the credits who actually did all the work.

In short:

You are not an official developer.

This is not an official release.

(nqfan2) #20

In short:

I have full authorization to develop the NQ mod so it OFFICIAL and same will be all further release

And official too that your an ***.

Nq is developing by the people for the people!
