It is so annoying that players keep whining or asking for some player that is higher level to be better than them, I mean… level doesn’t give you any skill/advantage
Not showing players levels in public games
Just wait until people start calling you a hacker because you can’t possibly be that bad at your level.
Heh, yesterday a bunch of us were playing execution (me, Feley, Jaeger, Shoe and a few others), and then PixelTwitch joined. He of course is level 60 because he’s been playing for aaaaaaaaaaaaages… Even though he joined part way through and had 0 points at the time, the complaining began about how he was going to “carry” the team he was on… rolls eyes
I still personally think levels should just be scrapped, because unless you have some kind of ego going for you, all they do is encourage level shaming - and it happens all the darn time.
Keep the levels but just cap them at 10, so that MIN LEVEL X still applies. as well as its MAX counterpart.
Condense the levels and make them just names.
1-10 = rookie
11-20 = Semi-pro
21-40 = Pro
41- 60 = Master, etc.
Would be interesting to try before scrapping the entire thing.
I kind of like the levels, though.
Also level do not give you skill/advantage, but the time you put into getting to that level does. A higher level will have more classes unlocked, more time played with each character. They will understand wall jumping, they will know the maps inside and out, where the enemy is based on the wave time, etc. Just like any game that requires time and experience to learn…
It’s been pretty clear that Dirty Bomb has a very steep learning curve if you ever watch rookies play, so levels DO mean more. More than in a game like CoD, or Battlefield, or any other generic FPS.

I just want merc levels back and hide account level. Would be fun and I’ve posted about it a few times.
Also, your bold point isn’t fully accurate. Yes, if you have more experience than somebody else you’ll be better than them when both are still learning the game. But everyone has a different skill ceiling and some focus more on getting better while others treat DB and other games like Flappy Bird…something to pass time. I know people that have been playing Q3 for 15 years and have tens of thousands of hours in Q3. And many of them are much worse than people who started playing within the last year. At some point, for most people, time played stops raising your skill. And DB will soon be coming up on that point where there is going to be a whole lot of diminishing returns for a lot of players. I know quite a few people in DB who have hit their personal wall but their levels are still going up.
Honestly, I don’t really get the point of anything but a rookie/non-rookie distinction. Levels are 99% pointless, except for the free case you get at each level-up and max 5/min 10 servers. Level system needs a reworking as a whole, IMO.
Currently, all levels do is give a VERY rough estimate as to skill level. I try to use it to balance teams, say if our team has a level 10, 12, and 15, and their team is all under level 10, then I’ll swap over. Aside from that, levels have no use.
Levels are awful. No, really there’s not a single piece of good that comes from having levels and it most definitely doesn’t outweigh the negatives.
Scrap levels.

If you scrap levels, a lot of the salty players will hoon towards the K/D ratio, which is what Dirty Bomb is NOT about.
Just hide it for now. And just show how many finished games versus abandoned games a player made. That’ll show how much a player is rage quitter is—> dishonourable discharge.
Do not I repeat do not use K/D for separating skill also do not include a stat page where K/D is recorded once that is done the K/D whoring begins.
You can however implement something like a rank system. Whereby people who do objectives and based on objective points scored they rank not by “EXP”. It takes the objective points and gives you a rank say Private, Major, General and so on. At least I know the people in my team know what is objective.
Planeside 2 had such a system and theirs was based on EXP and it took very very long to get lvl 99 and highest rank was Warlord or something. Very few people had it and when you went up against them you knew it was going to be a real fight.
There are players that just grind and try to hit it but it’s harder since it’s based on objective points and also as any ranked system you still meet bad players with a rank because the time they took to grind it. Eventually it evens itself out and the best players are highly ranked.
The other way around this is to fix your matchmaking problem solved. I told you simple take the average time played, K/D & (rank or level) and average the team out.

I don’t care where idiots look, they are still idiots. Scrap levels, scoreboard doesn’t have to change. There’s no difference between points and xp except for levels.
edit)
As for showing win/loss in the profile, that would be okay I guess. But I don’t see why it’s necessary. That’s not a metric that I take into account when assessing a player’s skill. Generally, it’s their decision making, reflexes, aim and if I play with them a lot their communication. It is not their win/loss, XP/hour, k/d r etc or some other stat that encourages assumptions.
Don’t touch my levels.
If you hurt your butt over some scrub calling you names, because of your level, pls…
Levels are still good for assessing which enemies pose the highest threat, and it helps with planning approaches, especially in pubs.

Or which d*cks not to revive. I’m not butt hurt, I’m just irritated by idi0ts who want to be carried to victory.
id rather have them hide kd. in every match i see people only playing for their kd but i rarely see anyone whine about peoples level. those who do that will probably whine anyways.

You do know that people are being vote kicked simply because of their level right? It has less to do with name calling and more about players not being able to play on a public server

You are a special snowflake. Hopefully you, and you alone, retain the option to display your awesome numerical value.
The rest of us dislike being treated like shit in various manners (being kicked by the team you are carrying being the best) while playing to win and trying to enjoy the game.
Also, since I have found levels to have an unsurprising lack of impact on the enemy’s aim, I don’t see the point of them.

Or… you can just look at the scoreboard and see who’s in the top.
One of the main dislikes I have about account level being displayed is it makes some people immediately salty over perceived balance which then can lead into the other negatives. Like when a team has 3 level 20 players and the other team has a level 17, 18 and 11 and the latter team loses.
Players will claim It’s because the other team had 3 level 20 players and not because their team was running 4 vassili’s and a melee Aura and forget that they had a level 11 player who went 60-10 and did better than anybody else on the server. It’s an easy scapegoat that doesn’t really tell an accurate story that can then lead to other kinds of unpleasantries.
There is just so little value gained out of showing off account level compared to all the negativity it produces.
