Not another demo thread

I am with you, only BC2 is my fav shooter, and I will most certainly play BF3. Already have it pre-ordered.

But I have two copies of Brink preordered (one for brother, one for me, but I keep the preorder bonuses :D). It continues to look more and more fun.

Given that the launch of BFBC2 was a small fiasco, and the launch of BC:Vietnam was an even greater fiasco, I would actually avoid the launch, and jump in a week or so later at the earliest.

BFBC2 truly got ruined by people mistaking a beta for a demo. Really, this stuff may create easy publicity, but it’s not always the publicity a developer wants.

“Even though Brink is my most anticipated game of the year, I don’t know if I will still be playing it by the time BF3 rolls around, and I have even less faith that the rest of my crew will be.”…
… I game with my crew, and if they leave, I won’t be playing Brink alone. Right now, I am just concerned about getting them ON the wagon. Keeping them there will be my next challenge (hopefully, it won’t be a challenge).
I am in the same boat as you, a game just isn’t a game unless your crew is with you. I love my crew, could ask for a better group of people, but when they go off to a game I have no interest in, like most military shooters or zombie based games, I rarely follow and find myself waiting for them to come back to TF2 lol. But TF2 is getting old, tho fun, it wont be much longer before TF2 players die off. When that happens I hope they move on to a game I will enjoy playing with them. Which is why I have been promoting brink left and right when ever i get the chance with them.
Tokamak - ETQW release was in a very bad timing.
Month after it was released Crysis was released, the mighty cod4
was released (which in my opinion change the all FPS genre), bioshock etc.

All those 3 games had great polished demos (not online)…
I am worried about Brink’s timing, it feels like 2011 is the year of the game for a lot of people,
Crysis 2 comes out on march 22nd
Portal 2 comes out on apirl 18
Modern Warfare 3
(APB)All Points Bulletin: Reloaded
Planet Side Next
Duke Nukem Forever
and the one i fear the most, Diablo 3 is going to rape peoples attention from other games
(edit: Diablo 3’s relase date is unconfirmed for this year, but it’s not far off in the big picture)

I wanted to ask about this, Where are the dev’s? I know I’m new here but i have been scouring the community for a while now and have yet to come across any comments from them. I have great respect for the SP crew and what they are trying to accomplish, and with the launch date growing ever closer I know there time is becoming more and more limited, but with a community that cares very much about this game it’d be comforting to know if any one upstairs is listening.

Diablo 3 won’t be out in 2011 though. Blizzard already confirmed that.

(tokamak) #46

They were pretty active a week ago.

Oh and I don’t think we need to worry about a MW3 any time soon.

hint: you just quoted the answer to your question

A demo is fantastic for trying a game before deciding whether to purchase it but if there is no demo people will just torrent the game anyway if they are desperate to test before purchasing.

(tokamak) #50

I think handing over the single-player for free wouldn’t even be a bad business idea. Sooner or later all the offline players will ache to test their worth online and will feel compelled to buy the game. You would completely miss the niche of people that are willing to pay for just the offline game, and I may be be wrong, but I think that’s a rather small group (as I seriously doubt hardcore singleplayer games will be satisfied with Brink).

Especially if you allow the ‘trial’ players to see their friends having fun online and progressing etc.

Quake Wars could have done the same.

(Seyu) #51

Isn’t that the purpose of a demo?

(Diablo85) #52

Really a shame there won’t be a demo. :frowning: Can’t really see this game build any hype on the PC without a demo, but I guess time will tell.

(Bullveyr) #53

He didn’t write that there is no demo for PC, not that I believe there will be a PC exclusive demo.

(Diablo85) #54

I’ve seen a SD developer on a PC orientated forum confirm there won’t be a demo. And it would be weird anyways to have a demo on the PC and not on the consoles.

I’ve canceled my preorder. Don’t like buying games on blind faith. Will await the reviews from sites and users first.

Diablo dont go on the words of others to make your decission on a game. If your not sold. Rent it for your self and make your own conclussion to buy it or not.
