Lol, amazing. That map still spreads joy.
In 2003, two rtcw/et keyfigures in Swedish gaming, maca and celtiC, organized the first cup on that map.

The map started with me and Drakir chatting and I just tossed out the idea that there should be a xmas-fun-map for ET. Drakir said “it sure should” and on we went. This must have been in november 2003. I remember that we wanted to get it out by 13th of december, which is a significant date in Sweden.
We worked for a couple of weeks, with Drakir having the map on his harddrive, and I worked and send bits to him which he put into the main map.
Drakir did 90 percent of North Pole, including the classics: the cannon, the santa’s workshop (with gifts) and the zz top room. I did the stable (Drakir made the reindeers).
I’ll give you some more “behind-the-scenes of North Pole”: The slide (down to the star-room) was always called “the IKEA slide”, when I talked to D. Apparently he had worked at IKEA or seen a slide at IKEA. He had then carried the idea in his head for some time, about making a similar slide for players, in a map.
The star is made by old school rtcw/et mapper Hummer. We just wrote to him and asked, and he custom made the star for this map. If you ever use it in your map, make sure to give credit to that great mapper (maker of “Kung Fu Grip” for Rtcw for example).
And I can tell you that both Drakir and I laughed like mad, when we tried the cannon for the first time (we started a test server, with voice com - Teamspeak). It looked just INSANE, when a player flew thru the air.

Thank you once again for “Northpole”, one of the most fun maps I’ve ever played in this wonderful game, I have a feeling that even if ET ever starts to die out, there will be resurrections of ET servers every December just to play “Northpole” A true classic

Northpole is the only “fun” map I enjoy playing. Mostly because I first played it a couple of years ago around xmas time; I even get some of that xmas feel just by loading it up now and seeing all the silly implementations on the map. Thanks for making it.

I assume the Santa/ZZ Top connection is beards?
