Microsoft Security Essentials -> Settings -> real time protection -> disable realtime protection

MSE is blocking PB so the server kicks you. Might be the reason.

ye i heard about that before, and i think you are right but i don’t know the consequences if i put the realtime protection off of MSE. that the only reason why i don’t turn if off…

The first thing people should try is opening up their console (press CTRL+ALT+~ or just ~ if you’re l33t) and type this into the console, followed by an ENTER:

pb_security 0

Connect to the server you want to play on and if things work the way I understand it, the game server will start streaming the updates you need to your PC.

The default value is “1” which means you can only update Punkbuster from the official servers, but changing it to “0” should give you the opportunity to download the necessary files from any server that has the latest version of Punkbuster installed.

Try this before you do anything else.

I don’t like punkbuster.
PunkBuster was fine with Windows XP and Linux.
Doesn’t work for me in Windows 7.

PunkBuster support was really horrible when they were supporting ETQW.

I must be lucky, i’ve had no pb problems which can’t be solved by a game restart. And im on Win7 aswell.

I wish someone would pick up the tab and make sure that the official downloads are still available where they’re supposed to be. How much would that actually cost? It’s not like we’re seeing thousands of new players every day.

The game was on life support before this happened, but the fact that people who bought the game legitimately can’t even update their version of Punkbuster, is like putting a death sentence on it.

It’s reaching the levels of crypt admin noob rage. I saw a scoreboard on their server for most kicks btw.
