Please… pretty ****ing please no iron sight and make somewhat unrealistic spred of the weapons so the game requires more skill to play, something like W:ET (Wolfenstein Enemy Territory) Wich is the best game ever made
No Ironsight
Once upon a time, in a forum far far away, I argued, long and loud, against Ironsights. In fact I remember an epic thread on the subject on the long deceased forums for Wolfenstein 2009, and an earlier encounter on the Urban Terror forums (another fast paced game based on Quake3 that doesn’t have ironsights). I thought all my arguments were good ones, and I felt justifiably good and smug into the bargain.

Then I played other games and realised I was a narrow-minded ignorant prat.
and we should remember that rtcw and wet had a spread modifier- good ol Crouch. the problem isnt so much about iron sight as to how and when you really need to use it. long distance is fine, for short to medium hipfire should be accurate enough.

Have you played Insurgency(free game on Source)? That’s the way iron/scopes shall work, and putting them along with cross-hair, which is now inaccurate, simply does worse job than either Insurgency and ET solutions.
I just like the way ironsights (stroggsights?) work in ETQW. Makes you think when you should use them and when not to.
I have to side with the no ironsights crowd. In more “realistic” shooters, perhaps they serve a purpose, but in a more arcadey, fast-paced game like DB looks to be, to me they simply don’t belong. There is a huge franchise that has millions of fans and is still releasing games to this date. It is popular not only among competitive players, but gamers in general - the game is Halo. It is the bread and butter game for Microsoft, and it features no ironsights, and is also a fairly fast paced game. It is also console only - a platform that usually thrives on the use of ironsights.
CS games also feature no iron****s, and to make thing’s worse - it’s not so much a fast paced game…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0p_bQ5jIyNo - 0:40 - reflex scope (i dont realy remember name of this sight in COD) attachment. So it seems the ironsight are already in the game.
As someone who played a fair bit of unreal tournament and co, I like weapons with alternate firing modes. Addition of variation in weapon handling, like additional weapons, gives players more choice in how they can best approach a situation. I think that’s interesting old design tradition that should be continued even in the face of less dramatic weapon variation of modern shooters.
Flak Cannon ftw
I also tend to miss those old days, when carrying 10 weapons at once was normal.
I’m in favour with no iron sights, for them to serve any kind of purpose they have to offer something, usually better accuracy, accuracy is good but that usually makes hip firing more random. I guess, I’d compare it to the cross-hair expanding in Halo Reach, one player pacing their shots and the other spamming. The player spamming will win sometimes but this is completely down to chance.
Maybe not the best of examples but meh
Also like weapons with alternate firing modes, I’ve been playing FireFall recently and the Biotech Battle Frame/Class has an Assault Rifle type signature weapon with a shotgun shot for secondary fire. Being capable in a variety of situations can only be a good thing
See, I played other games and only felt more justified with each one. There isn’t a single mp fps I can think of with gunplay as rewarding or as demanding as RTCW and ET.
it depends on the gameplay i guess. fast paced shooters do not require ironsights. in fact, they just slow you down and make you an easier target. slower paced “modern” shooters on the other hand require you to use the ironsights or otherwise you would spray all over the place.
I think IS have their place in mid-long range engagements, especially with that lil’ zoom in you get, which makes target acquisition a bit easier. If close-quarters encounters need ADS to work properly, then yup, that’s where I draw the line as well, when it comes to fast paced shooters. But if you wanna be disciplined in your engagements and you’re accustomed to snapping your sights to the target even in short range combat, I don’t see why they should take that away from you, provided it doesn’t actively affect the spread (close quarters).
As for rewarding and demanding, dunno, headtracking while controlling recoil seemed pretty demanding to me in Battlefield.
You’re dead to me now, Hype
I don’t mind so much the mechanics of using ironsights, I just hate what they do to the speed and flow of a shooter. Playing ET after Battlefield is like being freed from chains!
