not a tard, i just dont have brink, i dont bother with games until they are dead or all of the hype is gone
No Demo Recording = No Competition
Ah right ok, that’s why you’re commenting like you have no clue… cos you have no clue. Cool.
I know SD Creative Director, Rahdo said,
it was “on the list of stuff that’s being worked on”.
Crossing fingers for a fix.
They also made a conscious decision to make leveling consistent between SP/COOP/MP, and created a very flat playing field between high and low level chars. Furthermore they segregate ranks in the default server config.
Those design decisions are geared towards diminishing the advantage high level characters have, and make rank more of a personal achievement for the player.
One advantage this has, is you don’t get the ‘ranked servers’ issue that ETQW had (and killed modding), you don’t really have to care about boosting, and exploits like demo recording aren’t a critical flaw.
The only problems with an easy-rank exploit is it’s sort of embarrassing to have your game glitched so easily, and people would be tempted to just use the exploit instead of playing the game as designed. In a couple weeks, noone’s going to care as much about that, and I wanted to throw my 2 cents in that I’d rather have demo recording than wait for a fix- just my opinion.
Nobody’s seemed to mention the insane xp you can get from the challenges either. Headshot + knockdown multiplier = 100x the xp basically.
That being said it isn’t difficult to get to 20 no matter how you do it. Demos ASAP!
Thats because skins do not get anyone banned in source engine the engien has sv_pure 2 which if anyone is using custom skins will know their skins dont work on these servers they gt replaced withthe default ones unless that person uses some sort of externalcheat program.
What an outrage. You release a Quake 4 engine game without demo recording, first person spec, and nothing on the scoreboard but xp? Don’t get me wrong, this game is potentially the next big competitive outlet given that the dev team gets their proverbial s#!t together. Another disappointing thing is that I see all of these posts in the community and no feedback from Splash Damage. Please give your customers feedback when they present issues to you.
You have to remember though – Brink is built on the DOOM 3 engine. DOOM 3 demos were literally gigabytes in size. When Raven took the engine and made Quake 4, I think they were able to implement their own demo-recording feature that brought down file sizes drastically because they changed the method of recording them. But there were still problems with it.
This engine has never been good with demos. As someone who has been a demo enthusiast for many, many (MANY) years, I am as disappointed today about it as I was nearly seven years ago. The engine is obviously hard to work with on this point (sorry to say, this is id’s fault when it’s all said and done).
That said, Splash Damage has always been a company that focuses on competitive play, and coming from that community, I am positive they realize the importance and demand for proper demo recording. Like GS said, I have faith they will come around be able to implement a solution. Raven had a kinda-sorta work-around. Give Splash Damage some time; I am sure they’ll be talking about it relatively soon.
Doom 3 only made use of renderdemos, which is why they were gb’s in RAW size, when compressed to zip or rar they dropped to a few mb in size (more than netdemos, but still less than gb’s). Q4 introduced use of netdemos, which SD refined with ETQW. Brink is built on a modified ETQW engine where we know demos worked, and we know demos work in Brink because they were in place… it was the fact it was causing chars to jump to level 20 that caused them to remove it.
ahahaha use fraps
the comment won the internet!!!
ahahahaha
btw i dont get 1 thing
sd is made by gamers
is it possible that their game can’t have at day 1 the promod?
They know since quake 3 what people want for competitive side.
Pause, start, demo rec, a bunch of editable things and the f**king sdk.
So why the comunity is dropping and noone of the things above is in the game?
The game didn’t even shipped with all the planned content (hello 2 missing maps). So don’t expect an official competition mod/sdk any time soon …
