No Demo Recording = No Competition

(BMXer) #1

It has been confirmed in this thread that the demo recording function is not supported in Brink!

This seems like a MASSIVELY HUGE EPIC FAIL on SD’s part. I personally feel like this limits Brink’s ability to be a successful competitive game.

Brink is a cheater’s heaven! There is literally no way for someone to get busted. None. There is no way to prove someone is cheating in Brink without demos. Admins can’t even spectate players because there is no 1st person spectating!!!

Is there a solution for the competitive community? Don’t say VAC, its just like PB, useless.

:eek::frowning:

AS far as i know VAC works very well, the main complaint with it is the delayed bans

But as far as i know they do get almost all of them

But OT

yeah I guess the lack of demos will be a prob for comp matches

i dont want to read SD forum anymore. Only negative news, comments and posts are here. Give me something positive OMG

VAC doesn’t do anything to help combat private cheats. These can’t be detected since VAC doesn’t know what to look for. That’s why you need record system so people using these cheats can be caught like that.

I’m 100% sure that SD said in an interview before release the game would have a /record function and first person spectating on the PC. So what happened? Was that whole interview made up or did SD lie to us?

Like this competitive BRINk is doomed to fail.

EDIT: Found the thread where it was mentioned. http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24344&highlight=record Either that dude was lying to us or he got lied to by the developers.

If it’s true (i’ll wait for confirmation), then it’s the saddest news I’ve heard so far regarding PC Brink. For me it goes beyond cheat detection, it puts an end to frag movies, tricking movies, even general muck around movies, machinimas, sharing demos with others. If it is gone, I hope there’s a damned good reason for it.

(BMXer) #6

What more do you need? http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showpost.php?p=300817&postcount=4

(DarkangelUK) #7

Someone on IRC was messing around with demo recording the other day, so it recorded… the issue was the game crashing when you tried to do playnetdemo. Also the playtest article linked as well highlights demo recording… i’d like clarification on the subject.

jRAD updated… somewhat http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showpost.php?p=301060&postcount=16

We despise the PC gaming community.
We hate fragmovies.
We like cheaters.
We dont like competetive players.

)))

Crysis avoided.

(DarkangelUK) #9

Well the update from jRAD states it’s not currently supported, I’m guessing due to issues with the playback… so that would suggest it’s more than likely on the ‘to fix’ list somewhere.

([>>]Over) #10

Actually I think I know the real reason. You were able to hack your brinkcharacter to level 20 instantly with the demo feature. thats why they disabled it until its fixed.

(Floris) #11

Gotta love replays which are so realistic that you actually get stats from them

People here were way to quick to pick up the shaving knife, but I really hope SD do add demo record/playback as soon as possible as it’s not just the competitive scene having use of this!

use fraps, stop crying

i loled at you

LOL right back …

Leagues use demos to keep the game clean of cheats, even in games with an anti-cheat (which doesn’t spot private hacks, which are the ones mostly used in league if any are used at all).

Demos are a fraction of the size of movie files, have no impact on game play, take zero time to produce and cannot be edited (and therefore have an integrity that movies do not). Expecting players to make a movie of every match they play and upload it somewhere is not viable.

No demo = no competition, it’s as simple as that.

Hopefully it’s in the works or Brink is already dead as a competitive game.

(Kn1ghT) #14

VAC is bad because they dont tell you WHY a player is banned, from what Game that player is banned, nor provide any evidence or an appeal process. Players can and have been VAC banned for something as simple as using a CS:S Weapon Skin. But, all your profile will say is “VAC Banned”.

(GreasedScotsman) #15

I have faith that this will get fixed. SD isn’t IW.

(Ragoo) #16

Hope this gets fixed asap :frowning:

(Kn1ghT) #17

nor Treyarch.

I am with you GS, I have faith in SD.

use fraps??? I lol’ed at you and so is everyone reading this thread. Don’t be stupid. Fraps ONLY allows for a linear first person view of the action. But actual demo’s allow for camera angles, movement of camera (like matrix) and anything you can imagine. To cut that short is to dumb it down to the level of thinking you are only capable of… oh… in that sense can’t talk to you.

(DonkeyDong) #19

I have faith too… but the game is so painful to play and it’s been 4 days.

SEROUISLY STOP RELEASING GAMES THAT WE CAN’T PLAY. IF I DIDN’T LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH AND THE GAMES POTENTIAL I’D RETURN MY FRIGGEN GAME OR START A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT LIKE THEY ARE AGAINST SONY FOR THEIR PSN FAIL. Seriously,… how can anyone sell **** nowadays so fearless against consumers? Cause we’re desperate for a game to play?!?

This is the most retarded thing I have ever read in my entire life.
