Well, I finaly just gave up. Verizon says I can’t get DSL because I’m too far from the local switching station (although they prequalified me and sent me the modem and phone filters). The local phone company says no, you are within the max distance, but you have load coils on your line. My current ISP says that can’t be it, cause they have load coils removed for customers all the time. Typical runaround/finger pointing at the other guy/hours on hold/ talking to idiots, etc. I have Directv, but that’s only fast on downloads. Uploads go through telephone lines at low speed. My only other option is to bend over and take it up the ass from Comcast for cable modem ($100 +/- a month including TV service). What is everyone using out there? Is there any way to play this game on a v90 modem? I heard a rumor that ordering caller ID will get a local phone company to remove the load coils. Any truth to this?
No Broadband Blues
that price for cable doesnt look that bad i pay 90 for 1mbit dl and digital cable. Or do you not want cable service, most companies will charge you a 5-10 dollar fee for a modem wout cable service,
I use cable. I pay less than $55US for mine. That’s $45 for internet, and less than $10 for TV (local channels). I’m on the computer more anyways. The price should be about the same between cable and DSL. In my area, it is. Satillite is about $60.
Broadband? Oh, if you ever get it, whatever you do, don’t get wireless. For me it is CRAP. And i have 1536 kbp/s
I got cable for $40 a month. US

Thats sad.
You guys must live in areas with competing cable companies. Only two serve my area, and they are within a few bucks per month of each other, $49 for cable modem, $24 a month for absolute bare bones local TV. Guess I’ll just have to suck it up and fork it over. The Verizon DSL price of $29/mo looks real good. Too bad nobody in my area can get it.
