Night time map

Would it be possible to do a map but have it at night time? and maybe mod the bino’s to act as II or IR? would be quite fun i think?

Last time I checked, Radar is at night, and RTCW maps “Dam” and “Dark” are night maps. It adds an element of paranoia, but it’s also kind of pain in the ass, which is why Radar is my least favorite map. I like to see my enemy at long distance and kill him.

The IR/Night vision would be sweet but some people might bitch on the realism. How about having the FO being able to shoot a flare to illuminate?

The different maps are made to celebrate different classes. People don’t like night because perhaps long range weapons don’t work… but them’s the breaks.

I don’t think IR would be good (pre realism), but I like the flare idea. Talk about dynamic lighting!

Are you serious? You can’t see your enemy far away on Radar? Hmmm… have you tried looking?

I love Radar, it’s perhaps my most favorite map and I have no trouble shooting people all the way across the map. Maybe you need to mess with your brightness settings.

maybe not bino’s for IR but seeing as someone re did the skins for resurection could be done with Nightvision goggles or something and a modded FOV ?

umm… i dunno how many night vision goggles they issued in world war 2.

and not as if you would go running around with those things on your head. you lose lots of peripheral vision and depth perception with those thigns on.

During late World War II, elite german units (“Nactjager”, or Night Fighters) did indeed have a limited form of “Night Vision” in the form of the Vampir system. The system was Active IR, meaning they had special equpment that could see near-visibile spectrum IR light. They then used IR-Filtered floodlights to illuminate the battlefield so that they could see. The system is essentially the same as those special “Night Shot” modes on newer digital video cameras, or the night scenes from “The Blair Witch Project”.

They were not “starlight” systems like modern day night vision that simply amplifies the existing light signal (Side note: NVGs will NOT work in pitch dark; that was one of the problems during the first Gulf War, when the sky was completely covered with black smoke from the burning oil wells, and no one could see.)

There is a good description, as well as some models, here:

(There are more pictures of the actual system linked under “Reference Photos”)

They also had Tanks that could see in the dark, using the same system. The vehicle-mounted units saw much more action, due to the fact that the units were easier to power, and didn’t have to be sized down so much.

I like the Flares idea. Field ops could trigger illumination flares, or maybe engineers could have a flare pistol. I imagine you’d have long periods of relative quiet, with sudden brightly lit shitstorms. Pissa! The IR rifle in SP RTCW “Dark” was literally the only way to see some targets. I’m not sure how you use this in a balanced manner. Snipers would own the maps. At the rate new maps are being cranked out, it’s only a matter of time.
