This is a plea to anyone new to this game, PLEASE LEARN WEAP BINDINGS SO YOU DONT HAVE TO RELY ON THE MOUSE WHEEL NEXTWEAP default bind.

Case 1: Im a medic, asking for ammo, along comes LT N00b, and the cycling begins - ok, theres your knife, nice handgun, thompson, binocs … yay ammo, wait no, thats an airstrike cannister … dont throw thaaaahhhhhhh RUN AWAY.

Case2: Im an engie needing to be revived. Along comes Corpsman N00b. NEED A MEDIC - ah, nice to se you mr medic (cycling begins) nice knife, theres your handgun, fantastic MP 40 ya got there, yay MED PACK, ooooooooooooooooooK, nice syringe, woops, back to knife. ( hrm, 4 seconds to respawn - maybe I shld just tap out. NO! that would be rude) come on lad, you can do it , knife, handgun, MP40 … LIMBO.

Of course, it is fun to gun people down while theyre cycling away looking for the appropriate tool to fire back at you with. Youd figure getting owned would be a good incentive to get your binds right …

Guess it depends on how fast you are with the old mousewheel, and maybe I have a small bind for the most important weaponbank.

I always rely on WEAPONBANK binds.
I’ve had to utilise an extra mouse button what with the new weaponbank in ET, but it is still infinitely more effective than scrolling through weapons.

Syringe/Pliers/Airstrike Cannister on middle mouse button.
Medpack/Dyna/Ammopack on right mouse button.
Alt fire on thumb button.

Quick, easy & effective.

Which reminds me, I’ve got to slap one of my clan-members around about this one; on Vanilla RTCW Assault the other night, we had a real close game, where an engi of ours had almost disarmed the dyna when he got gibbed. We had about 20 seconds to go, when up goes this guy only to spend the last 5 seconds of the game spinning through his inventory trying to lock on to his pliers, all because he STILL uses the mousewheel for selection. GRRRR.
Needless to say, his bloody remains proceeded to paint the ruined comms tower scarlet…

I have a logitech mouse that has a nifty button the side that I set to bring out the needle. Couple that with my health packs set to q and I’m a veritable revive-machine.

Saint. Could you please post your bind for the Logitech mouse? I also have a logitech but have never been able to figure out how to bind the 4th button to crouch or needle.

I know some people w/ very elaborate binds, I will try to get them to post them. I use a 5 button MS laser, and have crouch and sprint on the side buttons, and use the wheel for the spec weap banks and use wheel button for smg. I use the same config as rtcw w/ new binds added for alt weap etc.

Once you get used to it, makes a huge diff. But for all the WASD/ESDF standard config peeps out there, its not too hard to reach the 5 ,6 and 7 !!
But Im a weirdo number pad user so I need a funky config.

I stopped using logitech mice for that very reason, love their mice, hated the headaches I had gettin wheel to work in all apps, esp games.

Disable or uninstall mouseware, then just use MOUSE4 and MOUSE5 as your bound keys.

As a medic, I use sets of 2-weapon toggles:

WW - SMG/pistol
RR - needle/med pack

and I use a reset statement such that:

WR - SMG/needle

I use my scrollwheel only to switch between smg and grenade. For all other weaponbanks I use my direct binds.

And I also meet those guys who need 10 seconds (or more) to take out there f***king needle. And if they have the needle finally out, they get shot.
