Next Merc roll-call Early / Late Feb?

(jollyRacer) #1

We’ve been waiting for more than 2 months now, way much later than how it used to be. Is it going to be a late feb release for the merc?

(BananaSlug) #2

i think it might be like you said because they arent focusing on mercs, more on competitive play

(XavienX) #3

Most likely late since the devs are focusing on map developments and bugs.

(riptide) #4

All the mercs that I played 2+ years ago are already released except, Aimee which is actually getting a new ability or two.

Slowest. Development. Team. In. History.

Poorest. Time. Management. Ever.

Why don’t you make the game faster then?

(Faraleth) #6

Merc releases are slowing down now in this phase of the open beta. There will likely be AT LEAST 2 months between each release, as other aspects of the game are focused on, such as competitive, more maps, game balance and other important features (such as public party match-making, etc.).

It’s already been confirmed there will be no merc in January, which means it will likely be February, although nothing is confirmed I’m afraid. I’m sure we will find out closer to his/her release date.

(PD_Agent47) #7

Well played @Faraleth … you didn’t reveal the gender of the merc too !! so i am still gonna debate myself whether is it gonna be turtle or aimee !!! FML :disappointed:

So you say that the developers are slow in their progress !! ah come on are you f*cking kidding me …

Mercs every month, New map DOME , new game mode EXE ,New events like CW and WTD back to back and animations for the Trinkets and new loadout skins and on and on … i can’t even finish my breakfast in an hour … but these DEVS are doing so much in the time given to them … I am grateful to the DEVS for working hard in this game by sacrificing their time and energy !!!

(jollyRacer) #9

@riptide yeah buddy, you shouldn’t say that about the devs. They’ve been working hard on the game.

Well on behalf of those people waiting for Turtle or Aimee since 6 months ago or so, should at least be given the earlier merc role-calls. The fans have been waiting for a long time and if it is indeed going to take 2 months for each merc to be released, Aimee or turtle ( the one not being released in feb) has to wait 3 months from now and its a huge turnoff.

To be fair to those players including myself, they could potentially do a double merc roll-call to end the " Known Mercs " arc and then focus on their maps etc.
Or even just go back to 1 month = 1 merc plan

In the past, there was so much speculations and excitement in the forums as to which merc will be released etc, now probably 50-70% of that excitement is not present anymore

(SereneFlight) #10

Yes. Late Feb please. Sure, it would be nice to get an update earlier but I would like them to be more polished than they have been.

There will always be angry people on the internet. A lot of people do not understand the amount of work that goes into game design and production, so they assume every developer is a 1,000 man team that can pump out huge amounts of content on a regular basis…

Splash Damage is still a relatively small studio in the grand scheme of things, and to be honest I have to say, for the amount of developers committed to Dirty Bomb, they are doing a very good job! Sure, we’ve seen some “re-released content”, such as mercs, but all have been tweaked and fine-tuned before doing so, and while Execution and Dome have been in the works for quite some time, they received numerous changes within the development cycle.

Apparently making maps on a monthly basis and just releasing them without community feedback is how you would like it? No, I think not.

(Armuh) #12

spends saved up credits on cases

(MilkyBear) #13

Just imagine they release Aimee first, i think i will rage quit for 2 months, my body is ready, my gold cards are ready, my credits are ready, give me Turtle.

Meanwhile we have indie dev teams smaller than SD that releases updates less frequently but they’re sooooo much more polished than what DB’s been getting which I rather take over bugged progress bars.

(jollyRacer) #15

@sympatheticMotorcycle hey! I’m waiting for Aimee, I have all of those said mentioned ingredients too  I still think turtle will be released first, given how polished he is and how little we know about Aimee.

That’s precisely my point though, if they didn’t release the merc you want ( in this case, turtle ) , you’d have to wait for 2 months. Dude, 2 months.

There was no merc role-call in Dec, so Dec - Jan - End Feb. That’s 3 months for a merc to be released.

I mean, it’ll be nice to see them stick to their 1 month 1 merc plan and end the known merc arc. After that, they could post silhouettes of the NEW, never seen before mercs for us dedicated players to speculate and have something to be pumped up for.

I mean we really need a new engineer. Aimee is going to be a sniper, why need a new sniper while you got Vaseline lol. J/k i hope she will turn out great, or we can flip the table together.

(jollyRacer) #17

@sympatheticMotorcycle Haha well sometimes when you need a sniper in the team, we want to have an alternative to vasilli! Should Aimee stay as a sniper, hopefully she’d bring something new to the table.

You’re right that an engineer is usually more beneficial to the team compared to a sniper but thing is, we have lots of engineers already and only one vasilli :frowning:

Despite that, I do not hate or dread that the next merc roll-call if its turtle. It’ll be very interesting to see what people can do with his shield but imagine in a 8v8 match, 4 of em on your team are turtles. I think it’ll be horrifying to play with! As compared to a variety of partners like Bushwhacker, proxy and fletcher.

We’ll flip the table and break it in half together if turtle doesn’t work out well buddy.

O boy the beta is devided in phases, hopefully my grandchildren will see the day that dirty bomb leaves beta.

Basic game development cycle. This isn’t new - every game ever made has various stages of beta. :s

10years ago this was different. A beta was a beta followed by a final release.

Today everyone and his dog has a beta. For F2P this means work in progress until the publisher decides to shut the development down and sometimes also the game servers - for good.
