News from the command post

(Mateos) #21

Well, I know nothing about it, but Allied and Axis CPs sound different… So the message may be different, or it isn’t the same code used? ^^’

(Ruben0s) #22

Axis command post says “Splashdamage rocks your socks.”
Allied command post says “Powered by id.”

(Mateos) #23

Thank you

(rorgoroth) #24

@Ruben0s

Ha, that’s actually rather cool

(jemstar) #25

Haha I was a signaler in the army (Australia) so when I started playing ET I was keen to know what subliminal message was being spammed at the cp. It was about 4 years ago but if my memory serves me correct it was the same for axis and allies…But Mateos now I will have to check again lolol

And I loves easter eggs!!! Yummies!

LOL Thanks RubenOs I shooda read page 2 before posting!! At least now I dont need to check anymore. It does sound familiar now you mention it!!

yes/you/have/actually/wasted/your/time/decoding/this/–p/but/great/work./only/project/which/is/roughly/on/my/radar/for/et.

lololol just the 10th group a bit tricky?? /—…? -…-?p/ acQu!! not numbers or punctuation I can remember lol. Also much harder to read it rather than listen to it, and been awhile so is rusty!!!

Thanks for the challenge

(acQu) #28

Oh
10th was just this smilie :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad that while in army i had not to carry those big radio wave emiiter boxes at my back . I heard 70% of all signaller from the army die at age 40

(jemstar) #29

Hahaha yep generally my pack weighed about 25kg heavier than the grunts lololol And using codes not much need for much punctuation including smiley faces lol. These days they no longer use morse…just data bursts…nowhere nearly as hardcore imo!!! Oldskool ftw.

(acQu) #30

<going way off, soory xD>

Yup, i am not sure if we had to learn morse code, i think i heard someone speaking about it. But i was not chosen to be a coder luckily  At army i was mainly “specialforces” for the chief commander at our Battalion (that means i was his secretary b!tch lol  well not directly, but i was on management side, after i had finished my 3 months basic training. Wanted to be a tank driver though lol)

Ah ja good times xD But back to the ET command post  I am still thinking about ET:Legacy without SDL. I have the feeling SDL + windows is affecting performance a bit, anyone else noticed this ?

It’s currently OK to use SDL, since ET:Legacy stays on using the stock render.

There will come quite big problems if Legacy team decides to go over to the newer OpenGL context, while staying on SDL library.

And in a fact, SDL is not the right library for windowing and input nowadays.

(Dragonji) #33

However, it seems to have problems playing the sounds in ET:L. I noticed it doesn’t play all shooting sounds when playing on big servers (it just “ignores” following sounds if there are too many to play at the same time).

(Mateos) #34

Why play twice a shoot sound at once, since they’re both the same, and so would sound the same? ^^’

(Radegast) #35

Even if you had a tip for a better multi-platform toolkit besides SDL, we wouldn’t be able to use it anyways. It would take too much effort (and knowledge) to replace SDL.

Next generation renderer called “rend2” has recently been added to ioquake. It should be possible to port it to ET:L. Moving from OpenGL 1.2 to OpenGL 3.1 would be nice.

As to the sound, SDL is not the only option. We ported OpenAL sound backend from ioquake as well. It was half-broken, but IR4T4 committed some fixes a couple of days ago and after a short testing it looks (sounds) much better.

there are 10 types of people in this world… those who can read binary and those who cant
i love that joke… as it is really meaningless if u dont know binary

(Mateos) #37

This one is more about morse than binary you know x)

Is here an official ET:L thread?
There’s a short article about ET:L @Phoronix:
