New Website Design! (Requests in Here)

(pgh) #1

We have a Bugs thread, now a requests thread… :>

Check Here.

Custom Title Hack
Description: Adds a custom title field to a user’s profile, and displays it next to their posts and in their profile. Can be configured to only activate after a certain number of days and/or posts. A custom title can also be manually activated or disabled by an administrator.

Disregard tags in signatures
Description: Does not count any tags within your signatures, when counting the overall length.

Any chance of gettin the 2 above hacks shoved on? The first one, Custom Title would be cool… as a users posts/activity increases then so does there rank… basically a simple xp/post system… and you can make it display the ET ranks. :] And the 2nd hack is there basically because I really could do with the space in my sig…

Other requests im guessing are:

[ul]
[li] Bring back the Whos Online bar?
[/li][li] Recent and Most Popular Posts on Index
[/li]Description: Adds small table (3 columns) on the top of the forum index with 5 last posts, 5 popular (with maximum answers) and 5 popular (with maximum views). It helps to provide easy access to the last topics and keep on the top interesting topics. - From same site as above, just Downloads/Converted Hacks/Index
[li] Watched Topics List
[/li]Description: Adds a watched topics list so users can easily manage the topics they are watching. - Again, same as the rest but in the Topics dir.
[li] Photo Album 2
[/li]Description: Add a Image Gallery to you PostNuke site. 10 times easier than Gallery and with more customisation options than My_eGallery. No Coppermine here but is still very good. - Individual Gallerys for users who need them/request them. Think mappers and modders. Its a piss easy way for them to display there work quickly and efficiently, also allows the posting of Screenshots and what not for whatever reason. (Bugs for example)[/ul]

Edit: Random was inserted for some reason.

I see that and raise it by “no custom titles, and don’t display the post count next to posts either” (as a way to decreae spam =P) and “user option to not show signatures”.

Edit: Hey! How about a new mapping forum solely for posting screenies and descriptions of maps in progress / betas / releases? A convenient place for the non-mappers to “get teh droolage fix” - ideally with the “rule” that the the thread title equals the map title (instead of “my new map!”) ?

Edit2: Loose the “Profile, PM, IM” etc. at the bottom of each post, and instead turn the username next to each post into a link to the user profile.

Dude, thats twice in like 3 days you’ve reffered too myself, which im guessing is my postings, as ‘spam’. Sorry, at least 90% imo of my posts is trying to help someone, something or asking a question myself. If you have a problem then just dont read/look at anything i’ve posted on?

And with the Sigs? Signatures are normally filled with random drivel or something worthwhile, eg, clan sites, league sites, links to a members homepage, maps, servers etc… that, and avatars allow each user to be an individual on this board, and any other for that matter. Its also does not obstruct the forum view in anyway unless of course someone has a 640x114 sig or whatever. Its fun, should try it sometime.

Huh? Where did I refer to your posts as spam? I definately didn’t in this thread, you got something wrong there. I didn’t even say I think spam is problem on these forums (they are not active enough for it to be), just that things like post counts (you would still have one in your profile anyway) and “special features you get after XX posts” DO tend to decrease the quality of a forum, especially gaming forums. But that’s just my personal opinion. So, no matter how much spam there is now, it would “decrease spam”. It’s a harmless statement until you start reading things into it

 1. Yeah, that’s why I’d probably switch it on for a while every now and then, I find it interesting too. However, once you have seen a sig for the 1000th time you don’t need to see it ALL THE TIME. If you are bored, take text editor, save a page full of short replies and edit out the sigs, then load it in your browser again and compare what is more enjoyable to read. Geez, it would be enabled by default anyway, guests would see them too - so why not allow those few of us who are bothered by it to disable it?

 2. Heh. I always thought the content of the posts makes the individuality. Yeah, I like avatars too. They are usually less tall than the post next to them, too.

Its also does not obstruct the forum view in anyway unless of course someone has a 640x114 sig or whatever. Its fun, should try it sometime.

Heh? If you are talking about avatars, try replying to stuff that was said. Is fun too  If you mean sigs don’t obstruct the view in anyway, that’s simply not true. I run a high res, and still I see a certain percentage just wasted. In the bug thread someone suggested the black bar on the left is too thick - it’s the same thing. A sig you saw 200 times carries exactly as much content for you as a black background. If there was black space of random size below each post, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind an option to disable that. Maybe you can see now where I’m coming from.

Plus, chill. None of this was personal, if I insulted you elsewhere pm me the URL and let me explain/apologize.

“Disregard tags in signatures” is not ever going to happen - you can not ignore them completely as eval people could then put tons of

[](dsfdasfdasdfsadfsadfasdf)

in there - you wouldn’t see it, but (unless the board strips out empty tags) it would use up bandwidth and database space. Maybe there could be a separate limit, but you can never ever just not count them.

ya I like the idea of having no reference to how many posts as it does turn into a catch me if ya can game

Change the title of the editing board to mapping, and create a new one, called “ET modding” - with an express disclaimer that the purpose is for users to help users, not to ask the SD staff questions about the code.
