New video with "Freedom of Movement"
^ Hasn’t that been discussed elsewhere? There are valid arguments for both sides. Lets not rehash, here.

i’m not a great fan of killing sniper power, having voip off by default, etc. but I am a fan of risky innovation and think fan bases should be a little less possessive about the formulas they love and a little more willing to try something different and possibly fail.
I have already tried other games and there just not as fun and there communities are crap, the fact is if you want a team based objective driven game then SD are the best.

I don’t think you can even compare RTCW and wolfenstein in the same sentence, The original fans were willing to accept changes but wolfenstein was just shit.

I’m ok with Brink, its got alot going for it such as the smart button and customisation, but i just don’t get some silly decisions such as turning voip off by defualt, not being able to select grenades, not being able to preselect tools for objectives etc. little things that add up to one big annoyance.

Only time will tell if they will only be ‘annoying’ or game breaking…I can live with annoying.

:stroggtapir:…is there split screen in Brink?
I was a little confused on the details of multiplayer.

WOLF showed it is “game killer”.

(DarkangelUK) #65

Wolf showed that a 1st time development group+a very tight schedule+a bunch of I WANT I WANT I WANT guys on the forums is a game killer.

(Byrnsie7) #66

One thing that concerns me regarding the smart button and the Freedom of Movement is the pricks that will run around the map like maniacs. This is quite prevalent in MW2 in the form of stab fags.

(Senethro) #67

They’re not, they’re trivial and you look bad for making such a fuss about them.

I have been gaming for along time now over 11years (others on here longer) We can’t all be wrong you know.

Theres still only 10 of you on an internet forum. Being old and loud doesn’t make you not wrong.

PC gamers have been treated like shit recently and we want SD to make a good game because everything else is crap so yes we have a right to complain

Yes, you can complain. But you look like an entitled child when you say you have a “right”. Also, PC Gamer persecution complex is tiring to listen to.

and we have a right to be suspcious.

welp;

It was the same with wolfenstein (not sayign brink will be, just giving example) All we heard was “yes we are listening” “We care aboutt he community” “yes the game is going to be great” turned out to be crap. So forgive me for being abit cynical.

Wolf clearly wasn’t going to be a faithful sequel, wasn’t developed as an MP game, and had obvious developmental problems and you should have seen the writing on the wall months before. But of course people wanted to be surprised and offended at how it turned out.

WOLF showed it is “game killer”

as mentioned earlier -

True it has worked in other games but this will be the first time it is used in a SD game.

…the fact is if you want a team based objective driven game then SD are the best.

the only thing that WOLF showed was how incompetent the devs who made the MP were. Using one poorly developed MP game as a means to justify game mechanics seems hardly effective. The devs have tested these aspects over and over again amongst each other in matches. I have faith that SD in competent enough, especially with the experience of of ET and QW that they would know what works and what doesn’t. Besides, games get patches, so I wouldn’t expect everything to work flawlessly at launch anyway.

i don’t think the “I WANT I WANT I WANT guys” had much to do with it, at least i don’t see how any of them could have wanted what was delivered. coincidentally, Nerve was a 1st time development group and made rtcw mp pretty much from scratch in around 6 months.

not that i want a graphically updated version of rtcw, et is great and i don’t see that changing, just spent ~3hrs straight playing it and the endorphines are still flowing. but i haven’t really heard anyone explain why a copy of it with better graphics, change of setting and some small and well thought out changes to the gameplay mechanics wouldn’t be successful in todays market. nobody certainly hasn’t released a game that offers that kind of action since et.

there are many years worth of new players who have never played that kind of a game, and unless people are somehow fundamentally different now compared to 9 years ago, lots of them would probably love it. it was very “newbie friendly” back when most of the people playing it were newbies. the pace of action might not be very gamepad friendly though, so maybe that’s one reason it wouldn’t be a huge success, it would likely be a pc only game. can anyone think of more reasons why the kind of gameplay offered by rtcw/et wouldn’t work nowadays?

Thanks a lot for the comments, Bezzy!

I like SD’s concept of objective based team played FPS, I expect Brink to be more like W:ET in “innovation” than ET:QW was
im curious how the smart system will work from a leveldesigner perspective. is the system that smart to analyse the enviroment by itself or do you have to add “func_” brushes or something like that? similar to ladders in older id tech games where you put a brush with a func_ladder texture over the actual ladder to be able to climb it.

dunno, might be a too specific information at the moment and im not sure if i really wanna know, yet  but its interesting non the less.
From memory, the commentary on the original SMART demo video set in the airport said that SMART will make level designing easier since anything can be climbed if it is at a height that a real person would be able to climb up. So I think that the only limiting factor is that there is a ledge a certain height from the surface that you jumped from.

(light_sh4v0r) #75

(.Chris.) #76

I guess it was ‘slow’ after all…

(Apples) #77

Shhhhh stating the obvious will get you punished by death!

(Brink) #78

seen it a while ago

(nukits) #79

I think its epic to watch in multiplayer if they parkour like this ^^

(xdc) #80

in the video if its medium body, and being done smart button, it looks near the right speed. i hope its just not light body, being done manually
