I hope this media blitz signifies that QW is close to release. I want to play it so much! Good thing ET can still hold me over.

(iwound) #3

tbh I’d rather have news come in drips than an explosion.
Im just thinking why was today so important when no major
announcment was made.

(ParanoiD) #4

Maybe they got a copy of ET:QW Beta? AT least there is an hands on…

And now pass the beta to me, I will even spend playing offline till the release if i must to…

(kamikazee) #5

Gief bots!
I wonder how much those still need polishing.

(madness) #6

cause they went to the qw event in us and couldn’t release the info until now

(bobjones) #7

there was just a big press conference, and they couldn’t talk about it until today.
it’s not that today is so important, they had a non-disclosure until today.

oh and if you read through all the stuff there were some announcements i could consider ‘major’.
like possibly a massive scale beta in mid-april to test servers and tracking systems.

(mortis) #8

The only disappointing thing to me in those reviews was the lack of PC/console compatibility. I believe that a true nirvana be found in a game where PC players and console players could frag each other online and on the same servers.

(bobjones) #9

I belive that a true nirvana be found in a game where PC players and console players could frag each other online and on the same servers.

(kamikazee) #10

mortis: either PC players own the lot by their faster reaction speeds or the console players finish the PC players because their auto-aim is better. Something in the middle would be best, but would pose new challenges.

I think that it is only feasible to do so in a game if you design around that idea from the start of the project. Right now, I believe ET:QW is too advanced to be ported and rebalanced on consoles for PC vs console gameplay.

(mortis) #11

Yes, although I’m surprised that there is so much difference. I personally despise teh consoles, but kiddies and devs prefer them (design for a single piece of hardware instead of 10 kajillion kinds of hardware). I was assuming that it wouldn’t be that different to play on consoles, but that just shows how ignorant I am about them, I guess.

I was just thinking that the only way to have a truly phenomenal player base would be having players from both platforms able to play the same game. It’s too bad that you have to nerf one or the other (or both, it seems) to make it work. In that case, I say “Death to all consoles!”. The resulting increase in PC users will serve my purposes just as well.

(senator) #12

enough already, I dont want to get hyped any more, I am already determined to buy the game so there is no more convincing necessary, the only remaining info I want to read is: “The game has been released”… :frowning:

(signofzeta) #13

From looking at gamezone interview, we have bot action. I can play even when my internet is messed up, which it is usually not.

Also from the gamepro interview, the machine pistol is a secondary weapon now? What about the rapid fire weapon that looked like a pistol that belonged to the covert ops? Was that taken out?

(murka) #14

but my net is sometimes messed up by a popular but crappy service provider(i didnt want them, they just bought my old service provider)

teh name of them: ELION

(signofzeta) #15

“The first thing he confirmed for me was that all of the player classes, weapons and vehicles that I would be playing with today are staying in the game when it ships.”

As said in one of the links.
Something is final, unless there is a rumor that the guy said Kevin Cloud says it, even though Kevin Cloud didn’t. But why would a guy who works at a game website lie anyway?

(AKA Sneaky) #16

As a whole, the gameplay feels like a mix of Battlefield 2142 and Unreal Tournament 2004.

Why do they always feel mentionning these two lame games? It’s more than likely a feeling between Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Quake than anything else… Even though i didn’t play it yet. I’m pretty sure it’s how it’s named. Enemy Territory: Quake wars.

ok, i’m done.

i go back to reading now

(Ifurita) #17

Maybe because those players are part of the target market? Then again, maybe I’m just being silly.

(NoControl) #18

In one of the previews they said they are looking to add more beta testers in few weeks. I hope this would be the one where everyone could sign up, and then they would pick the most suitable players(me). Like the clan beta thing, except not for clans.

Currently, the game is being tested by a closed beta group, but the testing audience will be expanding soon. Sometime in mid-April they hope to open testing to a much larger group. The larger beta testing group would get one map made available to them and the focus of this round of testing would be statistics tracking, hardware performance, and server stability.

(mortis) #19

It’s in a Quake setting, with the Enemy Territory objective based gameplay style. The vehicular aspect is obviously somewhat more akin to the notorious gameplay of all BF games as well as Onslaught and VCTF in UT2k4. I imagine that the game will probably have a hint of the gameplay from all of these games…as popular games they should all have some positive features that can be used as benchmarks for the FPS genre. For example, Wolf:ET is the undisputed king of objective based squad gameplay. Quake is the long standard of pulse-pounding fragging action. UT is the king of simple vehicles and the best CTF (in my opinion), and Battlefield is vehicle-dominated gameplay.

To combine these points:

  1. Wolf:ET objective system
  2. Spammarific infantry action
  3. Easily operated vehicles
  4. Vehicles that have an essential role in the combat (without utterly dominating infantry).

I’ve seen many videos of the game, and they seem to generally fit into my idea of an ‘ideal’ game. I see lots of vehicles, but still lots of infantry, vehicles with purposes, and plenty of infantry combat. The devs have stated again and again that portions of the maps will involve “infantry only” phases, and that sounds good to me. If there is one thing that I expect to get out of this game, it is variety.

Gamespy is having major routing problems to Europe at the moment.
Thats why also half of the world cant play BF2 at the moment (account servers are at gamespy) and its been like that over 24 hours now.

Did it have different info than other sites anyways?
