new patch better have a sticky bomb nerf

(INF3RN0) #41

My brain fart…

Landmine:

  1. Large AOE slow/stun effect.
  2. Large AOE low damage (20 per person).
  3. Increase player mine capacity to 2.
  4. Detected by Recon within close proximity.
  5. Defusable by engineers or capturable by Recon.
  6. Require a player to step on and then off them to explode.

“The Crazy Idea”

  1. You can throw these mines like a frisbee, which causes them to instantly explode upon contact with a player or stick to the environment and explode after X seconds. Enemies can shoot them out of the air or when the tool is equipped to trigger the mine.

(prophett) #42

I agree with turning sticky bombs back a notch.

One of the suggestions I like most is increasing the cool-down and having to manually arm them.

(Glottis-3D) #43

manual mines sounds realy bad. you have to see the mine and wait for enemy to pass it and then activate it?

just make cooldown larger. the only problem with mines is that they are spammed hard right now. if you want to get rid of this spam - increase cooldown. thats all.

Has the same vibe to my explosive bowling ball idea.
So I vote yes :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you ever seen anyone manually detonate a land mine in any movie, war games, etc ??? This is ridiculous. Also it should rip appart anyone stepping on it. Otherwise you get a sci.fi game where every pub player will complain because the land mine is useless. Engies are already nerfed with their hp and classless objectives. Remove the power of their abilities and they become completely useless.

Inferno, having only the fire fights in a game is boring and elitist. Boring because this makes seamless games where you have no choice at all and only one strategy relies only on your tracking skill. Even cpma has more mechanics than that. Boring also because then you choose only the chars that have the best guns and thus you have 16 field ops mass murdering and 0 objective play. Then elitist because an objective player wont play such a game for long knowing he will get pawned and not be able to use his or her skills that can make a team win without firing a single bullet.

The land mines right now are great, nice blast and good crowd control. Plus it gives a meaning to Proxi, otherwise she is totally useless for 80% of the objectives. The stickies are a good idea, but there is no need to make them manually detonated. Manually armed can be a good idea though like lazer mines in quake wars IMO.

Edit: if a comp player gets killed by a mine, this means that someone was able to trick him and win by using a different set of skills. This should be recognized too as skill.

Its odd that you can shoot mines and turrets but not stickies, whereas you can knife stickies (if you are feeling suicidal).

new patch better be released tomorrow else “patch coming early dec” statement will have been a lie.

(RasteRayzeR) #49

You’d better start to post constructive feedback or learn to keep it down.

(Smooth) #50

It was pushed back due to our move to a much bigger, more awesome office at the end of last week and over this weekend.

We should have everything up and running soon so expect an update later this week.

(dirtybomber) #51

yes please

(INF3RN0) #52

It’s not elitist to dislike automated means of killing. Every other tool serves as a catalyst and not the means. Why do mines need to kill someone to make them worthwhile? That’s really silly to say if you look at every other non-ohk or damaging ability there’s ever been. Never once have I died to a mine due to another player’s skill, and never once have I killed someone with a mine due to skill. It doesn’t matter how good or how bad you are, you’re on the same level as every player when it comes to a mine. All you do is drop it and hope that the person who comes across it isn’t paying attention. The player does nothing, the mine does everything.

The final outcome should always be executed by the player, and an auto-ability should only be there to help better the situation. Unless the ability involves a measurable skill curve to use, it should never output significant damage. I think CoD/Console when I see anything that takes no effort, but is justified by “long c/d’s” or “handicapped stats” or “just blow it up” or “it’s usually easy to avoid”. All your doing then is using skewed logic to justify a crap mechanic. The final means to an end in the game should be left entirely in the hands of a player to control and master if they want to succeed. As of now the gun play is pretty much the only thing with a skill ceiling when it comes to getting a kill in xT, so either everything else needs to be brought up to par in difficulty or shouldn’t be doing any significant damage. You don’t have to be a comp or pub player to see how such mechanics are the sore thumb of the game play.

Tweak update like the last ones ? Or real big update with more maps and more mercs ?

(Glottis-3D) #58

to sum it up. playing Proxy or Sticky-guy deffinitely requires skill, as a whole. Both mercs a close-range only. and they are very low hp. This is how these chars are balanced. They have weakness and they have strength.
IMO sticky are a little bit spammy. but Proxy’s mine is not.
but overal chars are well balanced…

(DB Genome editor) #59

I would settle for new maps, new mercs, pretty much anything but just another set of gameplay tweaks :frowning:

Looking back at the dev videos, there is stuff that was implemented more than 6 months ago that is still not in game…

Keep the Christmas trees and snow for next year, it would make a fun holiday-themed update

(prophett) #60

More maps/much improved current maps and a new set of mercs to dick around with would be nice.
