new patch better have a sticky bomb nerf

(Ashog) #61

Hail to the new born demoman with pipes !

On another note: mimimimi to all who mimimi about nades, mimimi to all who mimimi about stickies. People like Inferno - learn to accept death from explosives ffs!

@Smooth, perhaps a mad idea but ponder this: make stickies explode-trigger on teammates too. Also make them detonate upon any damage, also from mates.

At least I’m not one of the disillusion types that somehow considers themselves a “skilled grenade thrower”/“skilled mine placer”/“skilled airstrike tosser”… it’s a complete joke. The fact that you have to hold on so tightly to a crutch means of killing someone in a game like this makes me wonder why you’d even enjoy the gun play at all? I only want to see a comparable skill curve for those things if they are gonna kill people, and then all I hear in return is “whaaa, no they need to be super easy for me to use otherwise they are useless!!!”. Wtf?

(Protekt1) #63

EMP merc that knocks out turrets, ev, mines, minimap (if they ever re-add it), sniper wallhacks, ammo/healing stations, lags current health regen… yes pls. Doesn’t affect friendly stuff cause of ummm emp shielding to a specific frequency lets pretend.

(spookify) #64

What do you think this is ET?

Pfft! Hahahahhaha

(INF3RN0) #65

It’s the reason mercs are so boring and the game play is so repetitive, because they do so little aside from shooting! +1 for special counter abilities or counter ability nades. Then add merc archetype specific side-objs to make them all more unique.

(tokamak) #66

I completely agree.

Rainbow Six had the same problem. Just dudes walking around, shooting. The shooting mechanics weren’t as interesting as say, CS, so there wasn’t much going for. Then Raven Shield introduced a whole slew of very strong incapacitating effects and suddenly the game was fun again.

The beauty of incapacitation is that you still need to be there to make the kill. Without it the effects pass and it’s harmless. However, as long as the effect (whichever effect) is in effect you’ll be a sitting duck and a free kill.

Turrets should be snaring and ruining your accuracy rather than killing you out right. Mines should be throwing you around, and nades should have a similar knock-out effect. All of this should be survivable if the enemy isn’t paying attention.

It would make everything so much more fun. Suddenly team work matters more. You can kill off opponents that your friend ensnared or jump in and cover a friend that just got messed up. It’s no longer 1on1 duels either. Single individuals get to dominate an entire opponent team or save their own mates by cleverly placed incapacitating.

That’s how it works in Raven Shield and there really isn’t much more satisfying than giving your completely messed up opponent a mercy shot.

Also my boss finally gave me a new pc so I think I can get back into this game soon again. That is, if I’m not rendering and baking

You are hopeless. Talking about disillusioned…

The only difference between you and me is that I can do both, while you only with guns lol. But yeah, being versatile is not fashionable nowadays. Let’s rambo the hell out of them, boys!!1
to sum it up. playing Proxy or Sticky-guy deffinitely requires skill, as a whole. Both mercs a close-range only. and they are very low hp. This is how these chars are balanced. They have weakness and they have strength.
IMO sticky are a little bit spammy. but Proxy’s mine is not.
but overal chars are well balanced…
nothing in this thread has anything to do with proxy. i feel like she did get a decent balance last update, but fletcher needs one badly. he doesnt have low health, and has a long range auto pistol, not to mention that you can throw stickies across the map with almost no cooldown at all. I feel like the people defending him either really enjoy being large homos exploiting something that obviously needs a nerf, or havent experienced how easy it is to exploit. they’re unavoidable if you know what you’re doing. thats free damage. nothing in a game like this should be free damage

(RasteRayzeR) #69

Totally agree, Inferno doesn’t

+1 again

Your the hopless one, too caught up in the fake grenade skill you think you have to realize that everyone else has the same skill at spamming. Spam takes no skill in comparison to guns. I’m a grenade tossing, mine laying, arty throwing pro just like you- and so is my grandma. There’s no learning curve to any of it the way you want it to work. A bad player will always lose a gun fight, but they have a 50/50 chance when they turn to spam. I like a challenge, you obviously don’t. Call me elitist for wanting to fix loop holes in game mechanics that would make it a more competitive game, but apparently these “pubbers” need the game to play for them.

(INF3RN0) #71

The balance is plain stupid imo. You have hard-coded situational mercs, made to be statistically effective 50% of the time regardless of player ability (this applies to more than just proxy). Balance an easy weapon by making it completely ineffective at longer ranges and super effective at close range with aim factor null void. Balance an auto-OHK device with beeping sounds. Then when that doesn’t quite seem right reduce the HP? It’s a terrible merc compared to what I expect because there’s nothing to it. You just hop in the back seat and enjoy the most inconsistent play experience of your life with no chance of ever improving or getting worse. There needs to be significant player involvement and control, and a measurable skill gap when it comes to damage output. That’s my gripe.

If you have aim with a gun, I’m pretty certain mastering grenades is far far within reach. Plus they have cooking in it, a decent toss speed, so all you need to do is cook 2 and a half seconds and toss. ez. Getting kills with cooking isn’t rocket science. When there isn’t cooking, the skill required actually increases because it is harder and shifts the focus to more tactical tosses than tosses going straight for kills.

(Glottis-3D) #73

at one point there was a thought about manually charged mines. which obviously is about Proxy. because i cant imagine a merc who has to manually detonate 3 different stickies…with what…3 different controllers?

(Smooth) #74

This has gone on long enough.
