New Nvidia Video Drivers

(DG) #1

Nvidia have released a new set of “forceware” drivers for their video cards, version 56.64. Of course you should only use these if you have an Nvidia graphics card, and want to update your drivers (personally, if you’re not having any problems I dont see any reason to bother, unless your PC is primarily for 3D Mark).

Release notes (big .pdf)

The notes have no mention of fixing the Nvidia driver issue that causes the PC to lockup when Punkbuster is running, however a previous beta driver reportedly did fix the issue, and it’s not listed under known issues. Have Nvidia finally fixed the problem or should everyone go and buy cards from ATi instead?

Other “interesting” features include the ability to set individual profiles for games and… a popup blocker.

Early reports suggest non FX users shouldn’t bother.

Stuttering screen and erratic mouse pointer.

But it didn’t crash with PB

Doh… spose i’ll give em a spin… tho anyone had any probs with the Fx5200 or Ti4800SE?

I run a Ti4800 on 56.64. Everything is smooth as a dream, and as a bonus the new nView software really helps me with my dual monitor setup. The PB problem is entirely gone. I highly recommend the new driver version.

Haven’t benched them yet though so I can’t comment on performance, but in-game (for ET and a few others) things feel a bit smoother in general. Definitely no problems.

Anyone else upgraded? Didnt bother attempting last nite but reading over the new features in detail (mm Gridlines, finally) considering giving em a try… anyone had problems? Or got something to say please? :]

Yeah, I upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers for my TI4400, and they work great, no problems with ET & PB anymore. (really stunk before would have to switch video drivers for different games, lol)

Upgraded meself too last nite on me FX box…

Performance seemed quite ugly tbh. Things ran fine and the new features are great just the play itself ran slowish/choppyish almost. Considering just removing em completely… wish older versions had the profiles tho.

I just reinstalled my old 44.03s. I need every bit of performance i can sqeeze out of my 800 MHz P3, 256 RDRAM, and GeForce 2 GTS on win98 SE. The 56.64 drivers decreased my FPS by about 6 or 7 frames. Radar used to give me 25 alone in grass and about 15 in a firefight :frowning: :banghead: :bash: , 56.64s gave me about 18, i wonder how that would decrease in a firefight, almost unplayable.
And also, the profiles were a bit glitchy for me, the advanced settings wouldn’t save for me, no matter how many times I apply it, and if i saw the slider for antialiasing, and then click over to hardware acceleration, the slider would stay the same. i dont know if anyone else is having this problem.

Yea I play on a pretty pathetic computer, but i’d put up a good fight anyday, unless its in radar grass :bash:

I installed it on my GeForce 2 MX440 64mb card. The only diffrence I see is that I can no longer set the amount of memory it uses off my board in settings.

whew, good to see this has finally been fixed.
