New Maps, More Content.

(ToAsToS) #1

I have played dirty bomb sense the closed beta, I know their are people who have played it before me, i have over 400 hours on the game and i’m getting sick of the same old maps. I can’t be the only one wondering where the new maps are.

I understand that more content takes time to make, and I also understand that you want to fix all the bugs in the game, but this is getting old.
Same maps, same characters or “Mercs” and after playing 400+ hours its boring, we want more maps, or do you know what will happen? People are getting sick of playing the same maps over and over that when you finally do come out with new maps, those new maps are going to be so over played that they are going to get stale so quickly that its going to put this game into a downward spiral, and honestly I don’t want to see that happen to this game.

I really enjoy Dirty Bomb but, I cant force myself to play it just because I want to see it grow. Splash Damage please, skins are great but it can’t be the main thing in this game, and that is all I have seen added, yeah maybe you added a new map in the execution mode, but that’s not why most people play Dirty Bomb.
Anyways thank you for such an awesome game, I really hope to see new maps soon.

Merc quantity if fine, I guess just add Turtle and that’s plenty. On maps I agree though, we need a ton more.

(ClemClem7) #3

With dockyard incoming (I hope soon) there will be enough map. I don’t want this game to become a bf4 game with a lot of maps full of bugs and not optimised.
When you look at the competitive games, there are not a lot of maps. But the possibilities on one map are enough to never have the same match one game after an other.
I prefer few well developed maps rather than a lot of maps designed as a trash pile of unorganised ideas.

They must now work on performance, bugs, optimisation and glitchs.

(BananaSlug) #4

before adding new stuff, they are fixing old stuff, after fixing we will get new stuff

(hoyes) #5

With mercs we have well enough, but maps are a bit lackluster. Soon though, we will be getting current map changes which will hopefully breathe more life into them. After that, there will be dockyard and turtle, which I feel will definitely make the game feel more fleshed out.

(Szakalot) #6

we need at least another 6 maps

Of course new content will be welcome.

I stepped away from the game for a decent time, and was a bit surprised that when I loaded up for the first time back, that nothing new was added yet.

I thought Turtle would be in game, or the dockyard objective map would be in rotation.

Turtle would refresh the game in all maps (as well as any other potential new merc), which will be nice.

And a new maps would of course be interesting to play with all the various mercs and team compositions.

Though with the length of time that it is taking to complete any content is a bit ponder inducing.

Im all for bug squashing, and map adjustments - that makes sense.

Though for me, the bug squashing has produced a game crashing scenario where I can usually only play one match, and the lobby leading to the second match crashes on countdown to play the next map.

And also, the map changes may not all be positive. Im watching with optimistic eyes, but some of the trainyard changes seem questionable.

That’s the main reason I don’t play a lot anymore: maps. The current maps are lacking, and not just in the quantity department. Some of the maps are just poorly designed, filled with too many invisible walls, and linear routes. Now Dome and Dockyard are very welcome steps in the right direction. I can only hope they continue on that path of adding more jumps and spice the maps up a bit.

Guess it’s a good thing the current maps are getting bug squashed though. As a F2P game, I’m sure this will continue to see new maps throughout the course of its life. Honestly the multiplayer FPS I’ve ever played - well, up there at least, top 5 for me. The others are either dead or just for old systems like the PS2.

As for mercs, we have plenty right now, but a few more is fine with me. Turtle, Javelin, and maybe another?

I much rather we fix what we have for now than add more stuff.

A lot of the maps can easily be worked on and changed imo

If it were “easy”, it would be done by now, right?

Of course things should be fixed, as a matter of course, but new things should also be added over time. That’s just par for the course in online gaming, if the game is to remain competitive and financially feasible.

The best games and the titles with the most longevity receive regular updates over time. With microtransactions / cash shops, that’s how you keep people spending. New content also brings players back, and advertising of the new content also helps in introducing new people (potential money) to the game.

The funny thing is that the poll at Christmas time by @Faraleth showed that by far the #1 thing everyone wanted is maps. Soon it’ll be a full year later and we’ve only had the one - Gallery.

Not being ungrateful, just interesting innit?

I feel like whatever people want most is what SD is not working on at the time.
“we want more maps!”
works on new maps
“oh god everything is broken! fix it!”
works on bug fixes
“why don’t we have more maps or mercs???”

honestly I feel like they need a bigger team to work on all of this. One of DB’s biggest problems is the spaghetti code it has. Its why every bug fix gets pushed back because a bunch of other things break when they fix one thing, and my understanding is there is no real way to work through that mess of code effectively without just having more people. Though who knows maybe im wrong.

Though it would be nice to test out some blokouts. I am sure they have to have more than just dockyard coming up.

Are there more maps coming? No one knows really, its not announced, previewed or hinted at anywhere public.

If you know about more maps or mercs, please share.

It looks like you don’t realize that coding and designing maps are done by two completely different groups of people.

Well there was also that whole delay between the last content update we had (Unlock and Load) and Summer Squash, kinda tires people. But both areas, bug fixes/performance improvements and new maps are IMO the most important things by far right now.

although they are done by two diffrent groups adding new context can cause more bugs so it puts alot of strain on the bug fixers i would assume

(X-aited) #17

if there woul be a sdk

I would be so happy

it would be great to have one  but its alot of work to make one :frowning:

(Wolf_Darkrose) #19

sigh maps and content… look let me put this straight three main things for a map one no exploited areas. two its MUST have advange and disadvantages for all classes and work for all them and thats the big one. three its a map it takes a butt load of time to fix bugs holes and get all the hit boxes on objects. now merc wise. if you have allll the mercs by now . one you never stop playing or you brought most the classes and what not. honestly do comp matches youll be fine. this studio isnt like valve or some other FPS that brings out buggy shit that is broken out going to be OP they do there jobs.

But the problem with new content is it builds up overtime until there’s a ton of extra work that you need to do, and you have to hours and hours of time into fixing all of it.

TF2 is a perfect example of this

I much rather fix what we have for now, especially since it’s plenty of content for the time being. The maps could have new routes or new aspects added to bring new life into them, and making the game run more smoothly is to me, more important than Turtle, Javelin, or maps for a game mode I don’t even enjoy (ahem, execution).

If your problem with Dirty Bomb is that there’s no new content, then I’d ask, are you even enjoying the game right now? Or are you just looking for things to complain about?
