New maps for ET

Hi, i’m new to this forum… :beer:

Im wondering if Splash Damage or another company is releasing any new maps (not home made maps) for Enemy Territory? Awesome game by the way…

It doesn’t seem likely. They don’t seem to be interested in pursuing it. Check out some of the custom maps, a few are unbelievable. Try “transmitter-b”, “Northpole” and “Raiders”, three of my favorites. For sheer depth and complexity,as well a great scenery, “Transmitter-b” rivals any of the stock maps, IMHO. Check out which maps are being heavily played online, usually only the best maps get played over time.

Splashdamage is a company, companies need to make money to survive. I’m sure that they’d be more than happy to make more maps when you pay them to do it.

Isn’t there meant to be a custom map competion this month? I’m sure there was a thread where SD offered to lend support - fell just short of endorsing though I think - that might be a good thing to search for :slight_smile:

I added every new map on our fileserver on et-scene.de

And everyone who has a new map but not a good mirror can come to me and I public it on www.et-scene.de

enemy-territory.com has bunch of maps so does rtcwfiles.com also the comp for making some of the custom maps be released in a patch is still no but I think it got extended because they are stilll in talks with sd and activ

Thing is, unless it’s an official patch-with-maps then you kill accessibility for the game by installing any kind of map pack on servers. Yes, most of us can and will grab maps we need but I also watch and partake in shaking my fist and ignoring any servers with them in the rotation when I want a casual game.

Same. I don’t really love all the standard maps, let alone the masturbatory displays of mapmaking “prowess” I’ve seen from most of the custom maps thus far.

um, it’s not like your being asked to download an 8Mb map with a 4.5Kb download cap ala RtCW is it now? I’ve been on plenty of servers that had a few custom maps and tbh so long as your connection is BB it’s painless. Unless you can get a new campaign out with an official patch I just don’t see excatly how you get ppl to play them - it circular - the n00bs play the 1.00 copy of ET 'cause that’s what was on their ‘warez’ CD - they know nothing about the 1.02 patch or the mods - they will only ever play the maps / campaigns that came with it full stop. Then there’s the other crowd who hae been playing ET for a while and are starting to get a little bored by the vanilla campaigns and want something more - I’m with them personally. If you’re running the 1.02 patch then your already 50% more likely to download a map-pack come patch update.

I’d be interested to know the IP’s of the servers you played on, gametypes and a list of maps that you think ‘stink’ and why - then the map makers who reguarly visit this site can see for themselves what ppl are looking for.

I experienced the pitfalls of trying to get people to use custom maps through years of Q3F as well as my few months of observation in ET. People will download patches but the people that download patches do not all willingly download maps. It’s silly yes but surely just about everyone has said “bugger this, I want a quick game of ET, I’ll try another server” rather than grabbing the map? :slight_smile:

I’ve connected to a handful of servers where they used custom maps by the way and only one of half-a-dozen or so actually had things set up so that I could sucessfully complete the download of the map. The rest usually died before the end or went along at 1k/s. Yes I have very good broadband. :slight_smile: Sure, you can google the map name and eventually find the right one, but it’s hardly the speedy “I fancy a game of ET now” response you’re after when playing publics.

all the more reason for SD to endorse a new campaign and release it with say the 1.04 patch as a single download / install ?
