[New Map Project]Hirntown

Hi all, and another new map project : D I’ve made one map before, but I’m making this new one since the previous one wasn’t nice at all, but I see it as a learning project.

I want this new map to be perfect, and very detailed.

Here you can find a drawn command map, so, my map is supposed to look like that if its done : D

[[OLD SCREENSHOT]]A gap in the wall to give axis easier entrance into the church.

[[OLD SCREENSHOT]]The church even has a fire-escape ladder, and a bell tower (Yes, you can ring em, but don’t put your volume too loud when you try it!!! ; )

[[UPDATED SCREENSHOT]] Overview that perfectly shows the playground with increased light and the axis spawn (and a part of the ‘escape’ tunnel). If you look (very) well, you can see one of the 2 bells hanging in the church tower (you can ring them).

The church is now finished. Inside you can hear a part of the ‘ave maria’-song, but for some reason, the quality in ET is VERY low. [[UPDATED SCREENSHOT]] Now its the inside of the church you can see. You can see the (playable : D) organ, the alter, some benches…

[[UPDATED SCREENSHOT]] New houses at the side of the map. They are not entrable, but you can get on the roof/balconies if you can trickjump a little.

[[UPDATED SCREENSHOT]]I have added more lights to the playground, looks nice now (even if i say it myself) : D

NEW SCREENSHOT : An construction site that has been half destroyed by the war. :smiley:

Well, the church is based on a real church, that I photographed on holiday in Italy :smiley:

can you perhaps tell me how you darken your map like that?

'cause i’m trying the same stuff, but it’s still very bright

Well, just select an non-entriy brush and press N

You’ll see : classname :worldspawn

add : _ambient
key : 0-20
Default is 10, 20 is kind of much, since you don’t really see shadows any more, kind of ‘ruins’ your map.
0 is very dark and you will have to add lights everywhere to have a good effect.

Don’t forget to compile with -vis or -bounce 8 thing in radiant, can’t really tell you where they are for, google or search splashdamage forums for that :smiley:

-vis is to hide stuff when you are at a place and can’t see as example a room. So, the room will not be drawn (improves you fps).

  • bounce 8 is for the light. It will bounch the lights which are bounching at some textures. like this (the small dots are air, because I can’t create dubble spaces :s ):

Yes i’m a member, not a full member, lvl 3 or something :smiley:

The 2 objectives have to do with the hirntown ‘website’, you have to steal the images and the source code from the allies.

Well first i was going to name it northport. But in almost every game, there is a map named northport. Its based on a real town, ‘nieuwpoort’, witch is Dutch for ‘northport’. I want my mapname and objectives to be origninal, and not to steal gold or radar parts :smiley:

EDIT : oh yes, forgot to answer sky question : There is a site where you can find tons and tons of skyboxes :

and there is a map called northport for TCE :smiley: so you were right that it is almost all games I guess :smiley:

erm i mean newport, not northport, sorry, Seembly, i was confused :slight_smile: Jop TCE got that map, but some other games have it too, kind of boring name :smiley:

Looks very cool, lots of atmosphere!

One minor critique would be that the playground area looks a little too dark.

On the screenshots, for some reason, it looks very dark. I’ll set the lights of the playground to a higher value.

Also the church ‘wall-gap’ looks very dark on the screenshot, but on the map itself its pretty light.

EDIT ::

Uh?! I just compiled the finished background and crane, and when I look to my crane ingame, I see this!!

You can see that some parts of the crane ‘metal’ don’t show up? Its a copy/paste from the other parts of the crane, that do work. What did I do wrong here and how can i fix it?

i don’t know how to fix (try draw brushes manually), but if it’s rotated by angle, i’d suggest converting it to ASE.
