New Map: JAM_POW_Camp_b1

Hi All,

This is the first release, first playable version of a new map: JAM_POW_Camp.

It’s a large map but the action is concentrated in 4 areas. If Allies complete the task in their area, they are rewarded with a small time limit increase and the action moves to the next area.

The premise:

| :…A small Allied force is given the task of breaking
| :…into the camp to destroy it and liberate the

| How it gets done:

| 1:…Fix and advance the tank to destroy the garrison wall.
| 2:…Build the Sola River bridge to move the tank across the river.
| 3:…Steal the Main Camp Gate Key from the Commandant quarters
| 4:…Take the key to the control tower to access the main POW camp.
| 5:…Blow up the Execution Wall to gain access to the crematorium/Gas Chamber
| 6:…Take the zyklon gas cannister from the gas chamber.
| 7:…Throw the zyklon cannister into the oven to blow up the crematorium.

| A:…Build the command post
| B:…Capture the forward spawn flag in the main POW Camp.
| C:…Build the assault ramp to have another way into camp
| D:…Disable or destroy the gas controls

| 1:…Prevent the Allies from escorting the Tank to the garrison wall.
| 2:…Prevent the Sola river bridge from being built.
| 3:…Protect the gate key from being stolen
| 4:…Don not allow Allies to take the key to the control tower.
| 5:…Protect the execution wall from being demolished.
| 6:…Protect the zyklon cannister from being stolen.
| 7:…Prevent allies from transporting cannister to the crematorium oven.

This is a GREAT map, BUT is has A LOT OF BUGS.


^ These bags only clips player, not shots. And I think its not a barrier for a tank, so it can go thrugh them


^ Road cuts in the tunnel, I suggest it can turn to the left or right until it can not be seen by a player


^ This antenne can turn


^ Landmine can not be planted on the grass


^ Landmine can not be planted on the road too


^ All doors which must sound metal, sounds like wooden door and some has wooden texture, like above


^ A lot of windows can not be seen and they sound like wooden plank break

^ Tracks cut in the tunnel, just like road, thats not realistic


^ Tracks have an unrealistic texture, use brushes to create tracks, then convert them to .ase model and clip them


^ Badly aligned door texture


^ Landmine can not be planted on the sand, totaly unrealistic


^ Altar shines like sun (or this is what you had in mind?)

Bugs are natural process so don’t worry. And I think there are more bugs which I didn’t saw

Hi Thorn3,

Thanks for the great comments. Fortunately most of those corrections are pretty quick and I will incorporate in the next release. Aside from the texturing and properly defining sounds it seems like the major thing you caught was landmine planting. I’ll look into that first.

My goal is to get feedback on major playability things like that and then to perfect texturing, sounds, and adding more detail objects to add interest to the look of the map while concentrating the action in the key areas.

Landmine clarification:
In this release landmines cannot be planted in area 1(tank approach) or area 3 (main camp). They can be planted in area 2 (admin/train yard) and area 4 (after execution wall). I will probably enable landmines in all terrains on the next release. As is, it makes it a little easier for allies since they don’t have to contend with mines in those two areas but it should still be very challenging for allies to win the map.

ok but to actually say something, i dont think one should bitch about the complexity of his railway track, if he want a single brush with only texture, then let it be. maybe he should strech it coz wooden stuff seems too thin, and frequent (close to each other). possibly other scenes are complex and he wanted to compensate it with a simple track, deemed not important. we cannot know his priorities/preferences.

being deliberately simple-looking, or, maybe he doesnt that good in detailing, isnt count as a bug, i must say this even if im the type of mapper who seriously pursuing/prefering great look

some maps have so much realism-related issues that u cant help the mapper to correct all of them coz it would be a new map then. only he can do it. while ur other notes , as the door, are valid and useful for whoever made whatever map.

I definately will end up modeling the tracks and doing more fine detail work but…
I’m putting that on hold just in case I have to move big things around to enhance the playability.

I’m hoping to get some feedback on how the matches flow - whether one part is simply too hard for allies, whether the action needs to be more concentrated in a particular area, whether an object is not properly buildable, whether a trickjump allows for a cheap advance or win, whether fps is too bogged down on older graphics cards, etc…

I have a couple toi’s in reserve just in case. I was also thinking of possible putting in a second secret tunnel. (hint hint):smiley:

BTW I’ve already created proper shaders for the terrain in areas one and three and landmines will be plantable everywhere when beta 2 gets released.:stroggbanana:

true thorne, your older maps had lots of bugs and looked very simple , and some of the issues arent that important at all… although its great to let him know, no need to exagerate

yea. I know my maps where simple and buggy, but, man, it was more than a half year ago. I used to be noob these days. I didn’t knew anything about terrain hills and stuff. I’m a fast learner. I used to make simple maps because I wanted fast results, it’s different now, belive me. Belive me…

I’d like people to stop bitching about caen too, they wont stop xD

about the map just tried it out and it looks like it’ll should play pretty good…

some things need work but overall well made

I got it running but my users dont like cause they think about ausschwitz…

on of the comments from my members is this:

You deliver (as ALLI!) “Zyklon B” (a poisen used in hitlers Kz`s) to a crematorium. A crematorium in a KZ, a concentration camp. With the sign “Arbeit macht frei”.

Thats just SICK. It has NOTHING to do with war or gameplay or fun. Its about mass murdering of jewish. There is NO fun at all in this ****ing idea.

There is a Huge difference in playing as “gold deffender” or playing a concentration camp deffender.

Kids (there are much under 15 on the server) and adults should not get used to KZs, Zyklon B and Nazi-slogans as funny things.

Same discussion. Problem is, noone would want to play as axis in such a map. And servers in germany are not allowed to have such content on them.

Thanks for giving the map a chance on your server. Yes, I agree that some people will find it controversial. Sorry that some of your members didn’t like it. As far as the landmine skin is concerned - thorne could probably tell you - its the default skin on his computer.

Who do you think the allies are fighting? Bunnies? Lolcats? Sorry, to be the first to inform you but its Nazi’s. If that offends you then don’t play WW2 games.

Reality check -
Arbeit macht frei - you can see this sign if you visit the Auschwitz historical site in Poland. Translates to “work makes you free”.

There were aerial photos of Auschwitz taken by the Allies much before the end of the war. The premise for the map is that if the Allies had properly interpreted those photos, maybe they could have sent in a force to liberate the prisoners and destroy the camp.

This is exactly the objective of the map.

As it happened, nothing was done for Auschwitz which was eventually discovered at the end of the war by the Soviet Red Army with just a few camp personnel and the prisoners that weren’t able to be hastily evacuated.

I did alot of research about the camps and feel profound sadness for the victims which in addition to the Jews were gypsies, captured soldiers (Soviet POWs were the first victims in Auschwitz I), and even german citizens that were dissidents.

I wanted to make a map that dealt with an important issue of WW2 and had an important objective. (No disrespect to all the gold-stealing maps)

Myself have no problem with the map. It’s just that the users want it to be removed i understand them and on the other site not like i told them. It’s game, it’s a map, RTCW was full of hitler signs, SS etc

For now i am forced(not really) to remove the map(it’s still online till i change the campaign)-edit- its not on the server anymore for now ;). As most will keep complaining as i got most germans on my server( server located in NL) 84.244.186.130:27960

Indeed what avoc says, germans are avoiding to play the map. Or they go spec, or they disconnect.

The map is good in my eyes, not having fps problems at all. In the first place i didn even noticed it was about ausschwitz or the boards like arbeit macht frei. When the people come complaining i noticed it. And it started to be controversial between nl and german about that fact. The one doesnt care, the other does. In my eyes its just sad that et can’t be what it should be, as most people think most are offending. While ET gets most played by germans.

I will ask thorn if he knows where tha landmine marker is. It’s awsome! Was looking on the internet, but can’t find it anywhere :frowning:

@ thorn if you read this you know where to get this? Looks better as the mine are flat on the ground, more fun on 40 slot server :slight_smile:
