New ideas to get people to play ranked needed.

(PurpleHippo) #1

Ranked is dead in its current state, no one cares about it (with a very small exception) and that isn’t likely to change anytime soon unless SD changes something.

Personally I would play ranked if it gave me a chance (even if its some bullshit like 0.3%) to get Containment War and/or other cool skins instead of useless fucking trinkets.

What would make you play ranked? (Besides queue times being shorter and not getting useless teammates/leavers)

More money

(exaltedRuler) #3

Bigger chance to get cases (could be special cases minimum iron or ranked case after every season)

(MilkyBear) #4

They got a x2 credit boost already, clearly not enough.

@sympatheticMotorcycle Compared to the credits you can earn in pub while doing missions + the waiting time. No, it is not enough if you really want to farm credits.

What puzzles me is, how much energy and creativity they put into a release event for just one merc. On the other hand for getting the game mode going this game was designed for, all they have is: You can play 5vs5 again and instead of 50% it is 100% more credits.

They need to do something to encourage team building. Rewards for playing x amounts of ranked games with 4 people from your friends list. Ranked cases that drop after every win and have minimum iron. Season skins. Rewards for X amount of combat / healing /game mode points. And most importantly, you can only get this reward, when you start with a full lobby, or at least 4 people in it.

They knew that ranked was broken and they launched season 1 in this broken state. This launch had been a possibility for an event. Grab 4 friends and fight for this and this and this cool reward. This had been the perfect kickstart for ranked. But no, they had to make this cluster fuck of single and duo queues.

Compared to missions it is still peanuts. It would need to be something like 10x to convince me. I’m not kidding. The I would have two good choices after I complete missions and want play more - goof around in pubs or play more seriously in Ranked and get rewarded. And before someone asks - no, I’m not doing my missions in Ranked. I don’t want to take a shit squad like Fletcher/Nader/Proxy only because I got a game mode xp mission for Proxy and I don’t want to play Proxy.

(Jostabeere) #7

People already suggested it pretty often. Give exclusive crap to people. People will play for exclusive crap.
And ranked trinkets aren’t exclusive because there are different trinkets out there. And you even get some for being Silver/Gold.

(ClemClem7) #8

The waiting time is too high, it the only thing that I can reproach to ranked. I play ranked when I want more tactics in a game.
The solo/duo queue is a good thing, but they must implement team queue. Then teams can play as a team, but can’t stomp 5 solo players.
We don’t all have 4 friends who play Dirty bomb to stack in a team.
Team queue are coming in few weeks, so just wait a little.

(bushyg) #9

During this event at least, they could offer a much higher drop rate of the exclusive event cards. I highly doubt it’ll happen though.

(terminal) #10

a game needs a competitive scene first before they actually play competitively.
Look at CSGO, everyone’s playing matchmaking in that game because the competitive scene is huge and all the top players are getting paid thousands. Everyone in CSGO wants to become the next KennyS or Scream, everyone in CSGO wants to be in one of the top teams. People need an example to look up to when playing competitively.
And seeing how Dirty Cups died a few months ago and how I haven’t heard anything from Dirty Bomb Nation since my return, I doubt ranked will be seeing any play anytime soon.

(n-x) #11

@ClemClem7 Team queue is already in-game. And if you really like a more tactical game, I cant see how you can get this in solo/duo. My experience was 90% stomps on the giving and receiving end and 5vs4s and 5vs3s because people dropped out of game. I dont have any friends either who play dirty bomb. Just go to the team recruiting forum.

Trinkets will never get people to play ranked, trinkets are fucking retarded.

(ClemClem7) #13

@Kelben I didn’t remember team queue was in the game (since last update I guess)
When I play ranked as a solo or duo, I want to play with people who are not running around the map like headless chicken. In ranked, even in solo matches, players try to do the objective, and are more serious and it’s not often a stomp since solos are separated from teams. I don’t often play in ranked only due to waiting time.

The thing is, by showering ranked players in exclusive shit, the majority of players will flock to ranked. But it’s not in anyone’s interest to force players to a specific game mode. Some want to play Execution, others prefer 8v8, then there’s those that just don’t want to tryhard after coming home from work. If these players don’t like ranked but they feel forced to play it they won’t enjoy themselves one bit and simply quit.

Giving small incentives like trinkets and credit boost to make up for the long queue times is fine. Making ranked virtually exclusive is not.

(FireWorks) #15

There were a few balances patches and changes like the surrender and the solo/duo queue. Do you think it would be time again to give the ranked missions another try?

I think the experience would be much better atm, since theres not just a 5stack waiting for the them to be farmed.

Introduce ranked missions at lv10 and let the team vote the most helpful player at the end of the round for a bonus.

Actually, they should make matchmaking exclusive.
That’s a good point.
Look at TF2, it’s about to be revived with its incoming matchmaking update and guess how you play matchmaking in the future? you have to pay to get in. Thousands are already paying $20 for a beta matchmaking key and it’s not showing any signs of stopping.
Matchmaking should be for those that have paid and get unique things like trinkets, badges on scoreboards, cases, and skins.

I have to disagree. Getting people to play the game it was designed for can only be a benefit for the game in total. Just because it is ranked doesnt mean you have to be a try hard. You can easily play on a low bronze level relaxed forever. But there needs something to be done to get more people to form teams and play ranked, because an active team scene is the only thing that will make DB played for a long time. All this loadout, bling bling, event crap will only keep players in the game for a short period. But it will never bond the playerbase to the game like the emotions of playing with a team, winning a game with people you hang out in TS, and so on. So what if people who dont like ranked have to play ranked to get those rewards. They always have the option to not play and miss out. Or they suck it up and get over with it. I hate Execution and I still have to play it when I need credits and I have a 30 round mission or I need the 500 daily.

(ClemClem7) #18

@terminal And then you create premium account and people begin to complain that it’s P2Play because not all access to the game is free.
The community of TF2 is not as small as Dirty bomb’s one.
If ranked goes pay to play, less players will play it, and it’s not the aim in this topic.

I don’t see what’s wrong with pay to play
csgo is pay to play, cod is pay to play, nuclear throne is pay to play, terraria is pay to play.
if you meant pay to win, people are already complaining about that with the Cobalt cards.
If ranked goes pay to play and gets a wide variety of rewards, more players that have already paid for the game will play it.

(n-x) #20

The problem with a pay to play model where you can get exclusive stuff is, that people who are interested in the rewards from ranked, are maybe not willing to pay for the possibility to get this stuff and people interested in ranked are maybe not willing to pay for the game mode they like and will just stop playing all together. This would have been an option if we already had a big competitive community with a chance to get the critical mass paying and playing so the rest follows. Right now, you would just add another obstacle for playing ranked.
