New Hands-On Review on UGO!!

(crumblycake) #1

Was this posted before? I don’t remember…But needless to say I think this a new hands-on review that I have never seen before. It mentions something about HOW the game prepares you for the battle…well read on

http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=702840

“…Unlike most FPS mission briefings, which consist of a bland text read-out, ours was a fully voiced, cutscene-infused rundown of our objectives for the map, like we were sitting in an actual wartime briefing room. Right next to us, our sworn enemies were receiving their own briefing. In this case, as the space marines, our job was to infiltrate a Strogg facility by building a nearby bridge, cruising through an underground tunnel and targeting the power station for artillery strikes. Unfortunately, this awesome briefing might not make it into the full game for every map, but for our demo, it was a great touch…”

Was this talked about before? It sounds rather interesting and it can be a more convinient way to learn about the objective and mission before jumping into the game…

What you guys think?

thanks for the link.

last review i wasn’t sure but i think this review confirms that those gameplays aren’t E3 gameplays. looks more like the ones who got previously invitations for interviews are getting invitations for gameplay testing.

looks like there’ll be more of these gameplay reviews coming soon in other articles

i think the vocal intros would be a great touch to quickjly explain whats needed as most casual ET players i know dont bother with the text objectives on ET maps. The Voice combined with waymarkers ingame, spawns that point you to the action etc should help ease new players in. Which is good.

thx n1 preview… i liked the fact of vocal intros , too. some interesting things and that article is worth to be read…

nice preview.

(Nail) #6

not sure how that would play out for non-english speakers, unless there’s some kind of monster language support

(kamikazee) #7

I hope there won’t be translation packs on servers… Imagine the horror of downloading spanish limbo speach.

(crumblycake) #8

Or Japanese, Korean, Chinese…all the NONE romanized langauges as well.

I think the voiced limbo screen with a short video briefing is an excellent idea and I really hope that the devs keep it in the final version.

*Please!

Well I think that depends on which countries we’re talking about. Lots of countries like Sweden, and others of the same size (small, medium sized) almost have English like a second language. Far from everything gets translated here, like manuals and games. I was actually quite surprised that HL2: Episode 1 had the cover and the “manual” translated to Swedish. My English grammar might not be the best example of this but I do understand English, both written and when spoken without a problem and so does a lot of people.

With as much as some of us play ET, I don’t think elaborate briefings would be helpful.
It’s like having to watch a cutscene every time you die in a single-player game.
Give me a nice brief warm-up and I’m good to go…

Nicely configured webserver UGO…
After clicking on “yes” for “excited about this game?” I got an error message with the following:

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.2300; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.2300

Perchance their MS product is not working as advertised? It’s OK, it’s only their internet face.

(Rhoades) #11

server admins could probably turn them off.

(The Pope) #12

They could take the briefings out of the game and have them watchable offline.

(Lanz) #13

…or the most obvious solution perhaps, play it the first time you load the map and if you want to watch it again press a button on the limbo screen.

Anyway, the question remains, will they add it? I have my doubts, they probably added that for journalists to get a quick start on the map. This game isn’t gonna be small in size as it is with the 500 meg mega texture per map.

W:ET Had audio… Just click on the radio tower I think and it gives you a rundown of the objectives.

GIMME!

correct , but also me as an really active W:ET player only saw this after about 1 year
so i think it’s not as usefull as an voiceintroduction for each map would be…
