New gun CQBR_what you think?

(Krallis) #81

Just had a look at the “weapon contest” thread in that forum.
Not to be blunt, but building it like that is not great. Also the standard of modelling there is, at first glance, far below what would be used in a game such as brink.

(iezza) #82

i find your mistaken,

There WAS a lot of blurryness in the video .

(iezza) #83

i respect your opinion, and dont want to come across as rude, Because it seams like your the only person willing to critize, which i applaud,

SIde not: is the three stage ironsight too much? i think it looks cool and will work with textures.

(Krallis) #84

Ok theres not enough difference in thickness. Even the basic shape of the front grip is wrong. Its rounded in real life and in your model the bottom looks too flat. Its maybe slightly rounded but on the real one its curved all the way round.

Im not tryign just too bash it and say its awful. Im trying to help you improve, to realise where youve made mistakes, so that you can avoid making them.

Iron sights generally should just be 2 pieces as far apart as possible. Sometimes they are both put on the top rail, which costs some length, but allows users to remove them easily.

YEt again, i would like the reinforce that this is based of the SAIGA and is not THE saiga, the textures for the grip will be all metal and only the bottom will be leather, Because of the minimalist ocndition of the ark, leather is rare, and soft synthetic materials even rarer.

(Krallis) #87

No one mentioned the texture of the grip.
I was talking about the shape, and the shape that is it would cut into and damage the operators hands.

(SphereCow) #88

Edge split modifier.

As long s the bottom is curved, i would assume it would not.

(Krallis) #90

It would, the sharp edges would cut into where your fingers gripped around the grip.

Ive attached a picture of a thompson I modelled, admittedly not great as I made it a while ago before id improved at this.

But look at the front grip, that rounded bottom is what it should be on this gun.

(iezza) #91

But its curved at the bottom, curves into the straight part, its an square with curved “edges” = no jagged edges

(Krallis) #92

It curves at the botom and then theres a sharp edge where it goes vertical, that sharp edge is what would dig into your hand.

(iezza) #93

But there is no sharp edge lol. Trust me, the gun is curved at the bottom, if you would like me to curve it some more, say. Nice tommy gun.

(Krallis) #94

In case ive made an error, I will double check. ill go and get a screenshot of the vid to show you what i mean.

(Krallis) #95

I was not wrong. Ive marked the sharp edge in red.

It should curve smoothly to a vertical line, if you viewed it from the front it should look like the letter “U”
Im gonna go offline for a bit now. Ill be back on later though. If you want you can PM me. You can PM me the file if you can export it to .OBJ format.

(iezza) #96

easiyl fixed in 2 seconds b y selecting “smooth” happy?

(Krallis) #98

(@LuddensDesir,Nice to see another 3D artist on here  )

The way the topology of your model is at the moment, if you smoothed it, it would cause the mesh to deform and collapse in on itself.

@Luddens Desir makes some really good points, as if mentioned before I use a different software which uses different terminology for some of these operations so I cant help as much when It comes to specifics like this.

The magic number is 4

FOUR

Its incredibly important as you want a model consisting entirely of 4 sided polygons, these work nicely with the smoothing algorithims incorporated into many software packages.

Triangles and n-gons often causing pinching, deforming and collapsing.
And as @LuddensDesir mentioned. You can use triangles IF you know HOW to use them.

(dawesti) #99

Thanks, tho I have never used Photo shop, MS paint ftw! the only crazy program you need! you can like, change colors, use different brushes, cut, copy, paste and loads of other ****! : D

(its al bout security) #100

damn good job and dont forget

dont try to fight it

Ain’t the Euston a close quarter assault rifle?

At least I use it as one,

It has the fastest refire rate amongst assault rifles.
It has the fastest reload time.
It has the quickest swap rate.

Sounds like a good close quarter weapon.
