No the voodoo days are gone :frowning:
(Today I fixed an old PC with a Diamond Stealth Pro and a Voodoo addon card, that was like total ownage once  )
I think in the future this may come back with PCI express :lookaround:

If you should buy a card in a store maybe wait another couple of weeks till the new generation graphic cards have arrived and prices drop, though there may not be such a drop with the budget cards

BTW its an FX 5200 series, a freind told me they was shit, wots wrong with em?

BTW keep im mind i am broke

Nutter, don’t even think you’ll win with a budget of 60 euros on a card w/ 256 MB … I’ve got a used gef4 ti4200 that was running fine not too expensive though it’d have to cross the pond. It’s at 120$ CDN which makes about 73 euros (xe.com). That’s excluding shipping of course. I guess it’d cost an arm for that  Well, anyway, if you’re interested give me a PM.

Here’s the specs for that card: Long URL

I just bought a GeForce 4200TI, hoping to improve my FPS (old Card was a GeForce2 TI) but it turned out that the rest of my computer (1GHz Duron + 512MB SDRAM) was the actual slow down so I got no increase in FPS. Dont get me wrong, the 4200TI is a nice card but it wont help you if the rest of your computer isn’t that great.

Yeah… Duron… Not a good start as a gaming platform

Wait for the next generation cards m8, the prices indeed will drop as already suggested in the beginning of this thread, ATI/NVIDIA you have to decide for your self using a couple of hardware reviewers, you might want to start with www.tomshardware.com and check graphics card section.

I suggest you really wait a few more months, and keep you’re eyes on

ATI - 9600XT,9800Pro,Budget version of X800
NVIDIA - 5200FX,5900FX, Budget version of 6800

the 5200FX really is the small and ugly brother of the FX series, if your budget allows to do better, then do

get a job and you are not broke anymore

BTW its an FX 5200 series, a freind told me they was shit, wots wrong with em?

fx5200 is a shite card  Look @ tommies list (using COD as a reference): http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/images/image023.gif

Whole test here: http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/index.html

I have seen more recent tests, but cant find them any more :frowning:

(=DaRk=CrAzY-NuTTeR) #14

wot is wrong with the FX 5200 series, loads of people tell me its shit but why?

(no_shad) #15

basically it struggles to push polygons

(=DaRk=CrAzY-NuTTeR) #16

ok, so much for the 256 MB, really hurts inside

(zero chAos) #17

Ok. I have an Athlon XP 1.1 ghz PC w/ GeForce 4 MX4000-T128mb. Would it be better to upgrade to 1.8ghz Duron?

(mouse) #18

There is no athlon xp 1.1 and i thought there wasnt a duron 1800 :???: (max 1.6?)

(bubba g) #19

Look around and you may find it cheaper, but

A Radeon 9600 pro 128Mb for £60.27?

And sorry, I meant Athlon, not Athlon XP.
