New GFX card FPS lag?

(Vigilante) #1

Hello,

I recently got a new grpahics card due to my 1.5gb Geforce 9600 gso breaking with graphical glitches and black screens.Because of my case size I didnt have a great deal of choice but settled on a Sapphire Radeon HD 6750 1GB GDDR5.

Having been tempted back to the darside of ET for a clan reunion and some matches I was hoping I could pick up where I left off, I had problems in the past using my AMD dual core cpu and ET not liking the 2 cores but this was corrected using AMD dual core optimizer and setting threaded optimisation to off in Nvidias control panel - forcing it to run on a single core. I had stable frames per second of 125 in all maps when capped.

So after setting up ET without problems and quickly jumping into the action with my old cfg I realized that I had some frames per second lag problems. upon first starting the game my fps was stable at 125 as always but around the 5-10 mark of playing I was seeing it jump from 125 to 40s and back constantly every few seconds making it very hard to play without looking like a fool.

Thinking this was a similar problem to before with my dual core, I searched through the AMD Catalyst control panel but couldnt find any way to sort this out, so I manually switched the affinity for ET.exe to one core. Again this helped for all of 5 mins and then it started again…all very strange.

To rule out a net lag causing this I ran through a few maps by myself and got the exact same issue.

It dont matter what fps I cap or even what resolution or detail levels I set it does the same thing regardless, i cant even hold it stable at 43 fps.

I have tried different OS including Win7 x86 and x64, XPSP3 and different drivers for both my cpu and gfx card but the problem remained no matter what I did

I have ran numerous tests on my hardware looking for possible problems with the cpu and gfx with testing software like 3dmark but cannot find any.The only thing I did find was 1 error came back using memtest for 30 mins but im doubting very much its memory related.

I still think this is related to my CPU and GFX.

Check if your memory gets full while running ET. If so - then your PC starts to swap. And that should lag heavily. Also memory errors are no good - fix your ram.

I could take out 1 stick at a time and run both memtest to check for errors and try ET like that, worth a shot I guess.

Hello

Try to activate : Dynamic Lights Multipass it can help to activate correctly he Video Card Hardware

Think to update all drivers & Hardwares with last versions (be sure of that can be some bad surprise with some manufacturer) : update all

Try to execute the game as Admin, and try to execute compatibility mode (mouse right click on icon to set compatibility mode to test if it work better)

Disabling Desktop Composition in same menu can help, but usually the Compatibility Mode in any version of Windows is a fail  And disabling Threading Optimization for ET through the video card panel is recommended if you “lag”.

Thanks for the replies guys, quick update I have been running et alongside core temp to check my cpu load and temperatures, since et seems to run fine for around 5-10 mins then goes haywire, Noticed at the time it went wrong on et my cpu was running at 68-69c while my cpu is meant to have maximum temp of 70c. sound like I have an overheating issue?

You can run www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
and see if your cpu gets clocked down… did you check the ram usage?

try on ETPro and see if it reacts the same

Well appears it may well have been the overheating???

I re-pasted the cpu and cleaned all the fan out it now runs at 22 c idle and around 30 c while on ET and I have no fps lags :o havent run any tests on memory yet but I will test each stick too to find which has an error and replace that too. But looking like its fixed at present.
