New factions at some point?

(Apples) #1

I know thats its already incredibly hard to balance with 2 factions fighting against each others, but what about new factions later on?

I’m a big fan of having many “races” choice in any rpg for exemple, and as Brink seems to be a mix of FPS with RPG I guess it’ll only be good to have more faction on this game.

As exemple you can see how works the necromunda gang’s stuff here with different faction fighting on the same ground…

Any idea how to implement that?

Peace

Both factions are symmetric in the way they play so I don’t see the point in adding a third exactly similar one.

(Apples) #3

depth, storyline, more customisation… Its not at all a “gameplay” question here.

(General Wolfens) #4

definitly NOT. The magic teamplay feature IS that there are 2 factions, not more not less. It makes really no sence to put more factions in it, even there is so many possibilities to create his own “hero”. It is still a shooter, not an rpg. Even it has some rpg qualities in it.
And its just impossible to create more factions and to bring out the game this year. and its also a question of finance.

(Apples) #5

As it wont change anything gameplay wise I still need a clear argument on why do you think it can makes the game worse?

With all the customisation stuff its more rpg’ish to me that any other FPS, what I’m talking about now (even if its freakinly too early) is some kind of addons with new fancy stuffs, nothing “gamebreaker” IMO.

But yup we can have different oppinion on the subject

peace

i had a similar idea when the third gameplay video (an objective perspective) was released. you know, the one with the greenish glowing thing at the end. i thought about it and came to the result that it must be a third faction, an “alien” faction.

but i thought about it a bit more and realized that it doesnt fit the story. the story is about resistance fighting police for “freedom” or whatsoever in a post apocalyptic enviroment.

so, thinking about the story i dont see what 3rd faction can be added.

but there actually seems to be a third neutral, yet not playable faction. did you see the objective radar in the videos? one objective was called “rescue civilian”. i still wonder how that will work out.

I think that the story for the game must be pretty solidly laid down now, and I doubt there’s room for more factions in there. If they were to release expansions and such later on it could be interesting though.
If a new group of refugees were to arrive bringing news of the outside world for example.
The problem I see is that as faction only really seems to make a cosmetic difference in this game, how would they make a third faction look unique without altering the gritty art direction they have going?

The only faction I can see being added in the game is an outside one. Remember, the island only ‘lost contact’ with the rest of the world. But that would be an interesting add for sure.

Also one word: Strogg!

Also one word: Strogg! :D[/QUOTE]
that’s what I was thinking while reading the thread, high 5!

Source ? All previous SD games had non symmetric teams. Should this be considered as part of the “®evolution” or you are just posting supposition as facts, like usual ?

(DoubleDigit) #11

It’s already been discussed, not much of a difference between the weapons of the two factions, apart from looks. Resistance having rustier equipment.

(spazski) #12

I’m not sure I could think of a third faction to add to the game, I think all bases are covered.

(INF3RN0) #13

Possibly something to think about for a sequel if anything .

(Szakalot) #14

i see no way of well balanced triple team map, unless its completely symmetric and you play ctf.

(Apples) #15

oh wait you get me wrong, its not about triple team on a map, just more options and more storyline with different factions, still be team A vs team B.

(DarkangelUK) #16

Something like the original founders or an external mainland group off-island trying to stake claim on the place for themselves cos there’s nothing left on land. I like a beefy story, and anything to flesh it out is ok by me.

(BioSnark) #17

Bah, just drop a couple terrorist agents from Arc 2 between both sides on each map to play deathmatch and cause mayhem.

(Nail) #18

maybe “Disgruntled Shop Owners”

(signofzeta) #19

Lol, Battlefield 2 has like 4 factions in total.

But the new faction is basically replacing either resistance or security on certain maps. I think that is what Apples is trying to say.

Like WWII. The factions aren’t allies vs axis. It is a lot more than that.

(mjjdj88) #20

i think leaving it at resistance and security is good enough. adding more factions would be pointless and mess up the storyline
