As of right now, 6v6 standard is technically ahead by one vote, as that’s what rex meant to vote for. I planned on letting this run for a week or so, so I will keep it open for a few more days and then open sign ups, as well as go over config options with the other admins, and then if we have enough teams for 6v6 we can go ahead with that, and then if not we can fall back to 5v5.

I am also planning to send a few pm’s out to a few more people to talk to them as well.

Again, just want to thank everybody for the interest and for voting, I am really hoping we have a great turnout for this.

I remember when I proposed it to be introduced to the map pool, the only people that were up for it were you Germans since you played it on pub 24/7 :wink:

Yup right. And as far as I can remember I’ve seen Refinery in almost every pool in the past, or am I wrong?

I can remember that I play with dtk on refinery in a 6on6 cup! Dunno, it might be 2008 or 2009.

I introduced it into the maps for 4v4 after skipMCP was created. The 6v6 maps were Area 22, Island, Refinery, Salvage, Sewer, Volcano and The Ark. After that I don’t know as I stopped playing/adminning except for some 4v4 cups in 2010.

Edit: I think Shifty is right about 2008, I remember it was used in the very early stages of the game but voted out by the teams.

I’ve always included Refinery with skipMCP in the cups I’ve run… and I am pretty sure it was always in the NA comp league’s rotation as well, which is why I used it.

@Rex, thanks for offering help, I am sure I will ask you a few questions eventually, as signups open and such, along with some other people that I have in mind.

Refinery is really crap with the MCP 6v6, the MCP stage typically grinds to a halt once it reaches near the deploy zone as it does in pub. The whole reason the skipMCP was added to the map (and other maps) was to make it bearable for 6v6 which it kind of did for refinery and not so much for others. Same deal with fast volcano and salvage.

Thing I liked about the skipMCP on refinery though was the strogg still had a slim chance to disable the MCP before it could be deployed by sending out a field ops in a shielded hog and just going for it. I even learned RL shots to counter them from the MCP outpost timed to the average time it took a hog to reach that corner of the road where the first strogg spawn normally is in vanilla. You just don’t get stuff like that in 4v4 happening. Anyway shame the rest of the map is pretty pants, never understood why it was used in any shape or form.
