New Competitive Ladder System, thoughts?
so maybe you guys can help with the rules then.

For custom rules that can be optional during the challenge, I am thinking:

 • Freindly Fire (on by default)
 • Server Region (Europe,North America, Asia,Australia)
 • Teamsize: 3v3,4v4,5v5,6v6,7v7,8v8
 • Banned Mercs? (So for example you could select that nobody can use Thunder), half considering banning him completely until they do something about the stupid flash’s…

Should there be a single ladder, or should there be a seperate ladder for each region? I am thinking seperate regions because its impossible to play a fair match with bias pings. Also should we fix the ladder to say 5v5?

For mandatory, I was thinking:
+No merc stacking (e.g. Cant have more than one of the same merc).
+No using explosives to launch up on roofs (Should be patched in next update anyway)
+1x (5min max) pause per team per match, not including internet problems which can allow an additional 5 min pause).

Also, another thing to consider is entering the score. Since stopwatch is a time and not a score I was considering ways to put a score in. Either write the time out so 8mins 30secs could be “830”, if the opponent doesnt finish last obj then they get 0… ? Oh wait a quicker time is less points, so that wouldnt work. lol…
Or just 1-0 for a win, 1-1 for a draw, 0-1 for a loss… ?

Oh and just for information purposes, the way we will prove results is screenshots. So its a case of if you play a game and dont take a screenshot of the scores at the end, then an opponent could say cancel match using a conflict, so if you get trolled like that, you will want a screenshot to prove to admins you actually won. After a few games people should get in the habit of taking an SS.

If anyone can give any good arguments on these or good ideas for anything then that would help out. Thanks
Please allow merc statcking, if teams want to play some silly artyx8 let them and then the attacking team has to break it. I like the pause per match.

I mean you can get in to a private match by clicking on a friends game and “invite to private match”.
if that helps
Yes, someone informed me and I considered it. But the problem was if someone crashed they couldnt get back in. (its fixed now apparently)

We want the format for the ladder to be fair and balanced, so the competitive matches are enjoyable. If people stack then people may feel trolled and not enjoy it. I would recommend finding a team who wants to actually play those types of games and experiment with unranked matches.

By the way, the new update has enabled private matches. I havent tested yet, hopefully the bug is fixed that prevented you from rejoining if the game crashed. But this means we should now be officially live. I’ve posted a promotional forum post in general chat, please +1 your support so we get get as much interest as possible. thanks for all the feedback.

So far this thread seems to have changed from 1. “Do you want ELO based comp” to 2. “Do you want custom comp scrim servers”

So to answer both:

 1. No. Personal ELO has absolutely no business in a team-based game. If you want to see what personal ELO does to team game communities, just look at the toxic cesspool of LoL. Team-based ELO is great, but that means people have to find a team… and they won’t. Personal competitive ranking needs to be based on team-oriented stats. I made a post about competitive http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/24753/why-ranked-is-unpopular-and-how-we-can-make-it-popular/p1 here, specifically go to the second post about determining personal rank.

 2. Of course. People have wanted custom servers for ages.

I never said it was “player elo”, the ladder is “clan elo”.
Also we already have a solution for custom servers, “private matches”, which was for a time disabled, its now enabled again. so the ladder is live.

Ah, I missed that. That makes more sense

The problem is that teams aren’t formed as easily as they used to be formed back in the day. Which is understandable while there are things like soloque nowadays.

But in my experience the best competition and the best matches are played if you have a steady team, battling for high ranks, becoming better, practicing together etc.

We should try to get that back, i know we can do it!

It’s hard to do anything organized with a team because of real life limitations. You really have to dedicate most if not all of your free time to this one game with this one team in order to make it happen. Between work, bills, chores, errands, engagements/events, most people I know around my age range (25 - 35) don’t have enough time to really just focus on DB and also do all the other leisure stuff they want. I mean I like DB but it’s not the only game I play and games aren’t the only thing I like doing with my free time. I imagine it’s the same for most people. Not only this, but you need the schedules of at least 4 other people, likely in different time zones, to align on a regular basis for practice/play, which means turning DB into a scheduled thing. It’s not necessarily hard to do but I can’t imagine most people have the energy to do it consistently.

That’s why solo queues are nice, you can just pop in and out at your will, as your own schedule permits. The average age of gamers has gone up over time. I remember when teams were much more of a thing, but back then, the average age of gamers was people who were still in high school/college days, times just before all the life stuff really hits. Nowadays the average age is something like 31, and there are more gamers over 36 than there are under 36. All of those people have jobs/families/life obligations to attend to. There’s not really much time left for organized team play.

That kinda stuff is reserved for people who really really dedicate themselves to one game, or one of the lucky few streamers that can make a living on it.
