New Competitive Ladder System, thoughts?

(Rosskii) #1

Hi guys, there is a new multi-game ladder system about to go live in a few weeks. I just had a demo of it a couple of days ago and it’s quite impressive. It pretty much has all the features clanbase had, if any of you played on there?
I knew the developer from playing MOH:AA for many, many years and he’s done a really good job with the site. I want him to put dirty bomb on the games list, but I guess there could be problems getting the players on an empty server and playing the match. Before I contact splash damage and ask them if they are interested in helping it work, I want to get feedback from the community. Would people like clan matches on an ELO-based ladder (just like clanbase)? If I get good feedback here the dev’s might take notice.

** Also a solution to the servers problem could be a unique key that you enter in the matchmaking queue, which could link those two queue’s together. So the unique key could be the match ID from the site. Also other tournaments and leagues could use the unique key too, it would be a universal feature which allows private games.

Sounds like a good concept to me.

If players know there’s a place to go to pre-arrange matches with other teams i think more people will play DB competitively. As it stands now there’s 2 competitive options (3 if you count physically approaching teams to arrange matches with them) that we have: 1. queue and pray, which usually results in 30 minutes sat in a lobby twiddling our thumbs only to give up and just play casual stopwatch. 2. Bite the bullet and brave the waves of conceited assholes that live on dbnation’s servers and hope the teams are fair (which they never are). If done properly by both sides (game devs and website devs, with lots of publicity) this might breathe some life into the competitive scene.

lol, well the dev said he is still working on the system which advertises the available matches. Until then I guess a discord text channel could be a good place to search\arrange matches.

Wasn’t this essentially IML

I think he’s refering to the passworded dbnation server that people know the password to and unofficially join it. I’ve not been on there but I heard about it

(Rosskii) #7

I’ve not heard of IML, can you elaborate? thanks

Pretty sure he was implying that people who play pugs on the DBN server just want to stack teams and get easy wins, but I could be wrong haha. Sorry if I am wrong Lsk.

Yes, he actually built the system. I was viewing his desktop with teamviewer. Its beast, just like clanbase. He is opening registrations in November. You can see screenshots on his facebook page of what the UI looks like. Search google for Scrimbase. Although at the moment it would be impossible to include dirtybomb since there’s no way to do manual matchmaking… Thats why I just need a few replies from people to say they agree and then once the site is up I can present this thread to Shoe he dev’s and see if they can make a matchmaking key option.

talk to Devs BEFORE you plan anything or start a join up page

(The_N00Ba) #12

I honestly would recommend talking to the Developers/Publishers first before you start raising interest Find out if they are aware of it.

(Rosskii) #13

thanks guys, I guess it does make sense to inform them ahead of time. I have made contact and let them know all the details.

Was a thing months ago that never took off because the comp scene is dead as fuck. Liked the idea, shame nothing came of it.

Oh I see. It is very similar to a site I looked at not long after Clanbase closed down. Maybe the reason that ladder never took off is because the site design was limited and maybe not enough promotion. If you take a look at this new site’s design it looks good and has a lot more features. My plan is to contact the teams who played in the cups, so as well as that, using this forum and doing in-game promotion. We could possibly get people to put teams together, It’s worth a try.

Ladders are a great way to create an active and competitive community. Clanbase was something special and a similar site would definitely be useful, I would play Dirty Bomb a lot more for sure. Let’s make it happen!

(Rosskii) #17

thanks tayski, once the site it up I will be back to let everyone know. once we make sure we can hold private matches etc.

(Armuh) #18

This sounds pretty nice, if you guys manage to generate interest my team will definitely be participating

(bontsa) #19

So seeing that the site itself has at least gone live and DB being in the list (TR’s starting to get enlisted in!) have you contacted SplashDamage already about this, are they able to nudge Nexon to release some servers for you guys or some other solution on the way? While I also think getting some confirmation from devs before setting stuff up would’ve been better since nothing’s set on stone, I wish good luck for the project.

(Rosskii) #20

Well I hoped nobody would notice  but yeah the site is live, but the ladder for dirty bomb is not yet in a state to run, since it’s missing the rules, which I’m writing. Yes I have contacted Dirty bomb, I don’t want to give out any specifics of the emails, but the jist of the discussions suggests the best system for this to happen is by using “Private Matches”. Private matches can support anything from 3v3 to 8v8. This should be a feature which is available again in the next DB update, due to be released any moment.

So if we use private matches it just means you have to add the opponents on steam and invite to a private lobby.

Maybe I can suggest some rules here which I have already and people give some feedback? Would help a lot… Oh and feel free to sign up, even create a team, and add to any ladders if you wish. But the site has only just gone live so it might take a few days before its ready to have matches.
