Hmm i have a radeon9700 pro…i was surprised that ET couldnt reach higher overall FPS… so i cant wait until i get home, and install these drivers…to see if it has any effect.

cheers

someone from my clan installed them and said they made the fps worse, toed said that he used to cap at 76 and now he cant get more than 65

AFAIK it was a performance issue in v4.1 only, so I wouldn’t expect any noticable increase in FPS when upgrading from other versions…

I’m not even gonna bother myself unless I run into problems with some other game.

yeah i lost loads of performance, but thats not after i installed the new drivers, but after i formatted and installed my pc again (and lost my cfg 4 et :<<<)

tried all tweaks but still get about 60 on most maps while i used to have a very steady 76… :’(

they have improved it alot over 4.1, my fps is now mostly steady capped around 76, instead of an unsteady capped at 47 :frowning:

from around and about I get the impression the 3.7s are the “fastest”, but I’ve only tried 3.9 (for like a day), 4.1, 4.1 omegas and these 4.2s.

I think ET is less CPU bound than RTCW, and especially Q3, but I’m thinking if you have a fast card it’s probably more the CPU holding back FPS. For a quick test you can try running a timedemo at 800x600, then doing it again at 1024x768 or whatever higher res (maybe adding a fair bit of FSAA & Aniso for a 3rd run). If FPS stays roughly constant it’s probably CPU bound, if they drop signficiantly at the higher res then it’s likely to be the video card / drivers.

ToeD did you remember to install your motherboard chipset drivers? Thats a common thing to forget on a OS reinstall that leads to a drop in performance for, well, about everything.

yeah it worked :> come here lemme hug you dg <3 <3

Catalyst < or > Omega drivers??? :???:

(DG) #10

omegas are largely the same as the catalysts, with some tweaks here and there. Not counting the overclocking tools, multires etc that come with it anyway.

theyre spoken highly of, and I find them fine so I guess omega > catalyst, but excepting the bundled stuff if you need it, there’s not really that much difference, but what there is seems to be all positive.

(BR1GAND) #11

Soooo I guess what I also ment to ask… Will the omegas incorprate the new (catalyst) changes when they update and do they even need to?

(DG) #12

there are new omega’s out based on the 4.2s. Pretty much everytime ATi releases a driver omega releases his version of it a couple of days later.
