Nerf proxy mines, before its too late.

It’s your fault if a proxy can get close enough to throw a mine in the middle of a group, she should be dead long before she gets there.

You always have time to get out of the radius of the mine. If you die to it, then it’s your fault for reacting super slowly and staying super static as a team. Explosives are meant to discourage bunching up and super static gameplay. Proxy is probably the riskiest and least rewarding ways of clearing out groups using explosives.
My fault?

This doesn’t always concern me, in fact it concerns my team most of the time. i see a Proxy come in and plop a mine down, so I kill her, and step back. Guess what, my team dies.

Yes Proxy is the least rewarding and riskiest explosive classes out there… but why does she even have the ability to do this? These are proximity mines, not sticky bombs. She should place them down, and they should be area denial, not suicide bombs.

How is a Proxy mine running in and suicide dropping mines on deployables and chokepoints any worse than a Fragger, Fletcher, Nader, or Stoker doing the exact same thing safely from a distance with little risk to themselves?
I never said it was any worse. As a matter of fact, I find the amount of one shots in this game to be the most frustrating aspect. I indeed dislike playing against a good Fragger greatly.

But Proxy is evidently not meant to be able to do this, yet she still can, and with too much effectiveness at least against pub players.

Again, even if this isn’t changed, fine. It’ll work against potatoes for the rest of time, while me and every one else with half a brain will dodge it.

But we have enough explosive mercs already, as you have kindly pointed out. Why add more? Make Proxy better at Proxying. Not suicide bombing.

With the most recent rotation, You sir are to late!

(Naonna) #43

too* … grammar. - Proxy seems like she’s in a good place overall: she’s just overshadowed by the efficiency of the OTHER explosive engie. The mines now are impossible to long jump over, so must carefully be removed. *edit - with hitscan weapons.
(Unless you’re an explosive class, in which case, they’re of little issue. - coughs “Fletcher & Nader”)

Powerwise i do think that proxy mines are fine, problem is that there is a lot of problems with the game that makes it a problem.

Yes, you can hear the mine, sometimes. You cant hear the mine at times for no good reason (like when you can hear it at 3 o clock and cant hear it at 4 o clock, using clock as a direction map). Audio is one dimensional so you have no idea if its above your or beyond you. Mines sound gets lost in all the spam. Overall audio is in a bad shape so it makes mines looks stronger than they are.

Animation for thoriwng mine is kinda derpy, at best. Most of the time i cant even tell if that proxy that just run into a room did drop the mine before she died or did she fail at it. It seems that animation doesnt even come from her model, instead if goes ahead of her. Other then that, if it isnt armed yet you cant even tell if its friendly mine of enemy mine.

If it wasnt for bugs and terrible audio it would be absolutly fine, but since there are tons of issues mines can get “a bit” annoying at times, but i still think there isnt really much of a need for a nerf (mostly because that there are alternatives that are stronger/safer).

I think what exactly needs its to be more of a deployable (like bushwacker’s turret) than a throwable.

Then they deserve to die if they are that clueless.

I AM SO SORRY, I CANT HEAR A DAMN BEEPING BETWEEN ALL THE GUNFIRE AND EXPLOSIONS

(Chubbster) #48

As someone who plays proxy a lot, I wouldn’t be bothered by a nerf anyways. People are dying because they’re not paying attention to their feet or paying attention to their corners.

(jjpdn) #49

They should make the mines do less damage when set off before it is armed. Then it would be a good nerf.

(HoakinBlackforge) #50

I know, but it sucks that even if you jump away you dont have time and space to avoid the damage. Or you have untrackable augment or you are just screwed all the time.

I can. It’s the easiest thing to notice. Hard thing is finding where the mine is from sound alone, but once you know there’s a mine somewhere, the biggest part of the battle is already won. As a proxy player, I know the spots, so that’s another sizable chunk of anti-mine win for me. I can merely hope I don’t come across it while in the middle of a fight because that’s the time I’m least worried about a landmine.

Either way, it’s been a while since I played proxy. Ever since I started maiming fletcha, she’s taken the trunk seat since one does not simply bring 2 engines in their squad. I’ve died to my fair share of mines and I never think they should be nerfed. Sometimes I never see them and I die immediately, sometimes I manage to get in a long jump before the explosion, and either die or live, sometimes I see them and manage to neutralize them, no damage taken. I don’t know if it’s my luck, but I’ve never come across a suicide proxy, at least I can’t remember coming across one, though I distinctly remember holding down a chokepoint pretty much myself as proxy once. Ahh…that was good…

(Apofenas) #52

It’s extremely hard to get good player killed by a mine trap, harder if he has big ears/untrackable and almost impossible if he has bomb squad. Usual mine traps just don’t work against experienced players as they learned corners where Proxy likes to set mines and do mine check before rushing to objective. I manage to kill these if i plant mines in unusual places and behind forgotten ammo stations.

Proxy shooting mine is over rated. You got to get close to enemy, plant mine and shoot it before you die. This tactic was compared to other explosives and it was described already how hard is to get close to enemy so i won’t mention it.

But funny part is: for the time you need to plant mine, switch weapon and shoot mine you could make about 2 shotgun shots and kill target with same success, but keep mine for later or drop it on dead body.

If there is more than one player(+some deploaybles) than sure, i’d use mine, but if Proxy manages to plan mine to kill them all, than all these dumbs deserve a special “Darwin award” badge for letting single Proxy do that. Personally i think Nader would still do this better if she rushed in shooting standard nades and die with martyrdoom.

Proxy mine needs serious change though. It should be less useless against good players and less usefull against noobs. If you have anything specific in mind, than go ahead. Otherwise please learn how to deal with mines. It’s not too hard.

Proxy is the weakest specialist of the 3 … She is just annoying when there are too many of her. L2P issue IMO
