Nade Timers

(Aseph) #1

Edit: The title of the poll was a bit unclear, I meant would you like to see a HUD indicator for the nade detonation time while you’re cooking it?

Moving this to a new thread because it was taking over an unrelated thread. Read posts #64 through #73 of the unrelated thread to catch up on the conversation first.

If you can instantly do this without practice and it does not require an ounce of skill then why are you suggesting adding pointless HUD elements that clutter the screen?

The answer is, you want it because it helps you in some way. If it helps you that means it takes an element of difficulty away from the game.

I have played games that do not have a nade cooking timers and I appreciated the spot of realism. Just because past SD games did something does not mean all SD games have to keep doing it. As alpha testers we are here to give our feedback so that we might affect the outcome of the game for the better. Or at least that’s my understanding.

We don’t need to argue about whether or not the change is significant, rather we should simply give our opinion as to whether we like the convenience or not.

If I’m the minority on this subject then it’d be good for the devs to know and vice versa. This way they can make a game that appeals to the largest audience.

I just think they take too long to cook & the beep before detonation should be removed.

(Volcano) #3

the ticking sound atm is either to quiet or non existent once those are fixed up we are all good (imo), visually ( from et it had colour change and icon size change) really doesn’t add much but it should be an option, bitches love options
menu setting for it
sound only
visual only
sound+visual
off

(ImageOmega) #4

No HUD indicator. Just sound. Also I’d like to see a shorter timer. 5 (and a half?) seconds is a bit much.

(Aseph) #5

I agree, 5+ seconds seems a bit much.

(Nail) #6

loved W:ETs click and pulse, 3 seconds then bye bye

I like nade like they are with that time you can put your nade and the enemy don t know when the nade explose so you can wait!
IN other hand i don’t like the indicator you always see the nade thats no really fun so you must cook your nade…

(RasteRayzeR) #8

I never get to surprise nade anyone because I die when I’m at 2 seconds of loading the nade, it falls, and they all have the time to run away …

(Kl3ppy) #9

I like the stuff Volcano suggests. Give an option to set different indications + to turn it off.

(RasteRayzeR) #10

Seconded, best way to do it.

(INF3RN0) #11

Since you claimed sound versus hud was a matter of skill, I disagreed because it just wasn’t true by experience. Having options for both hud and sound however would be nice, and I don’t really see any reason not to have both. Confusing pole, but here’s an example of what a hud indicator looked like before- never heard anyone complain about it.

(Humate) #12

The skill is knowing how much you need to prime in correlation to the distance you need to throw it.
Its not knowing how much you have primed.

Regardless its not exactly a mechanic that requires a great amount of skill anyway.

(tokamak) #13

I just want to say that I’d like to see one second shaved of the timer.

(Mustang) #14

Harder does not always directly correlate to more skill.

If you go too far down the scale you end up at frustration and alienation of the target playerbase.

We haven’t tested with any sound and/or HUD options yet, so lets give that a go before jumping to conclusions.

Nobody complained because you can make it invisible. It’s for nubz

The reason I brought the poll up was because I actually believe it requires more awareness/judgement to be able to properly cook the nade to the right time without using the aid of a visual timing indicator. Adding the indicator gives someone an advantage, however slight it may be.

I never said it required a great amount of skill to know how long to cook the nade before throwing it without the aid of a visual timer, but denying it requires any skill at all is not right either. However, you are right that it requires much more skill to determine the overall trajectory, distance and detonation time of the nade. And once again, if you claim it requires no skill at all then why would you need the visual timer to begin with?

You guys keep saying this but you do not give any data for your reasons… harder does require more skill. If you made the argument that monotony !== difficulty then I would agree with you, but that’s not the case here.

Edit: I agree with you here, SD does need to find a balance between conveniences and skill required in order not to alienate the target player base. A good example is their choice to include the ammo count indicator. If they had removed it (like hardcore mode in some games) many players would be quite annoyed. Balance of all things is the key to any game, that’s why I created this post!

(Mustang) #17

My reason was in the very next line:

For me not having the sound is frustrating, the HUD option I’m not so concerned about.

As a F2P the target playerbase is very wide to encapsulate as many players as possible, some of these would really benefit from the HUD option, those that don’t care can turn it off.

(chippy) #18

This. The same thing can be said about certain topics regarding gameplay as well. +1

There´s no such thing as a single ´skill´ though. Making things harder in some area will obstruct players from demonstrating skill in other areas.

as it is now its ok with me …no indicator …just practice till we got the timing more fun imo
