My gripes/flaws

(O2.iceman) #1

My biggest gripes about the game:

  • Being a server admin for GameArena in Australia, the MOTD area is woefully inadequate and it’s insulting to think they intentionally gave us about a 15 character wide area to fit your message in. You can’t even have half a URL :frowning:
They should have the 6 lines of MOTD across the whole bottom of the screen and reduce that big fscking map area with 3 small dots on it. It doesn’t need to be that big.

Hey but at least they fixed the awaiting connection so you don’t have to /reconnect!

  • Being able to get a new GUID whenever you want. How the hell are you supposed to ban troublemakers, or at least keep people accountable for their actions by being able to track GUIDs in a database and knowing people’s aliases?

  • Spawn camping of experienced players over noobs is rife (not a problem with the game, but the way people play it), but the whole XP model allows for this.

  • Team stacking of clanners vs noobs (not a problem with the game, but the way people play it)

  • I still don’t like the XP model and can’t wait to set up some SW servers. It’s bad for noobs, and in clan games will mean that whoever gets off to the best start will be unstoppable. The rich get richer… yada yada

  • Why the hell would you allow a PF soldier to have an smg as well. Talk about unbalanced. The only thing you could live with in RtCW with panzersoldiers, was that hopefully they only had a pistol for 20 seconds. Now in ET, the PF soldier is even more powerful as they have the same gun as you until they recharge (in less than 20 seconds) and have an extremely dominant weapon again.

  • The game is designed for rambo, not teamwork. For a game that is supposed to be so big on teamwork, they’ve done everything they can to knobble it.

  1. Having these ammo and health recharge areas - who needs a Lt or medic anymore
  2. Medic’s starting with an extra clip - who needs a Lt anymore
  3. Lt’s giving 2 full clips with each ammo pack, who needs to stick with their Lt anymore
  4. Medics able to get 120 spare bullets, who needs to stick with their Lt’s anymore

In RtCW, medics and Lt’s had to stick together because the medic relied on getting clips to stay alive. Now that the medic can basically have so much ammo in reserve, and not even need an Lt to get any more, is just heaven for the rambo medic.

The whole “the truck is damaged” “repair the truck” “they’ve damaged the truck” cycle is so boring :frowning:

How I wish for a simple objective type map that doesn’t have 56 sub-objectives.

Anyway, that’s just me…

lol, so you like the game then !! …hehe

I’m not a server admin, but…
can’t you have several lines of MOD ?
and you can setup PB to only allow guid’s of a particular age or over.

I think its too early to say whether weapons are balanced ect, but you
may be right about the ammo / health stores.

I personally like the bigger maps on a pub, but for clanning we will
defiantly need smaller ones.

The whole “the truck is damaged” “repair the truck” “they’ve damaged the truck” cycle is so boring"

I guess so, but then again what’s the point of repairing it until you can
use it anyhow ? … maybe we have a lot of point whores

I suspect you’ll get “simple” custom maps soon enough

I dunno if you meant it, but your post does come over somewhat
brusque… what do you like about the game ?

Ya XP shuffling should be a server side ption (if it isn’t).

I vote for it all the time. But suprise, suprise no one votes for it.

It’s sad really. Tell you a lot about ppl.

yes you are right regarding lts, and medics…today i was on a really big server with lots of peeps playing, and the map was rail gun…on a team of 16ppl, just 3 field ops…wtf? and just one medic…dunno why, those clases imho gave rtcw that touch of class, which showed the peak of teamwork of the game with lts and medics helping out each other, in this game that thing has been totally killed, everybody just likes to roam around in covops, and steal a uniform and tries to do as much damage as possible, the team was so badly put up that the engineers (more than half the team nearly ) did not have and decent covering fire or else not even any air strikes to clear heavily defened positions (the obj is one of them…), nothing i played on loads of public servers but i continue seeing that lts and medics are not used as they should…u just find the odd medic which cant handle a whole team…this game even though nice imho killed the perfect balance between the classes in rtcw where everybody needed the other class’ support :bash: [/quote]

Not having enough meds or lts certainly is not the fault of the game, it’s the people who have never played Wolf that just want to play this free game they downloaded.

And we’re going to assume that since you only had 1 medic, you switched right?

(Mystiqq) #6

Id just like to add to this…

the combat medics…
i mean its just absurd, they just run around with dual pistols killing everyone they counter…
i mean, where in the world does these types of “medics” reside :stuck_out_tongue:
hes a medic for crying out loud…
and this adrenaline thing… 10 unlimited stamina and 50% damage dealt to him??

this just blurs the boundaries of original concept of this… like medics beign medics and soldiers doing soldier things…

cheers

Very simple, don’t play it.

(BloodShadow) #8

I second Smyler’s response

(=MLK=FOO) #9

Ok I will 3rd it

I’m not sure about the original posters’ comments about the MOTD. You have multiple lines for MOTD, server_motd0-sever_motd5 and you can put more than 15 characters in a line. Plenty of room in OSP motd settings to say just about anything anyone cares to read about.

iceman: Being able to get a new GUID whenever you want. How the hell are you supposed to ban troublemakers, or at least keep people accountable for their actions by being able to track GUIDs in a database and knowing people’s aliases?

little old me: This is scary. I hadn’t considered this, but it is a real problem for me as I have some bans that span all of our servers. These bans have been put in place to protect certain younger players against …erm… the shallow end of the gene pool. Is this the kind of thing we can expect to see from a ‘free’ game? I’d appreciated a comment from SD on this one so I can at least inform the PARENTS of said younger players.

iceman: How I wish for a simple objective type map that doesn’t have 56 sub-objectives.

little me: Sounds like rtcw to me

(colic) #12

Well its not exactly difficuly to get a new GUID on the original RTCW if you know how

But the major things I see is the lack of teamwork… but the original wolf was like this at first. People are just getting into the game, I would give it some time.

The major hate I have got is how quick it is too gib someone. It puts me off being a medic quite alot as you dont get chance to revive anyone.

Being a field ops well, their are that few medics to give ammo too tbh.

(Kekojones) #13

I totally agree with the PF soldier thing and with the health-ammo recharge areas. Im seeing more and more rocket guys spamming the bases entrances with the smgs and rockets.

Still I think that this variety of objetives is what makes this game so cool. Goldrush is da bomb!!!

(wudan) #14

digibob said something about this - it’s not apparent right now because of the age of the game, but in the future admins can limit games to players with GUIDs that are old enough, ie, no noobs or if your GUID gets banned, even if you get a new one you can’t connect until your new one is old enough.

(O2.iceman) #15

I don’t hate the game, and didn’t mean my post to be ultra-negative

The MOTD is extremely small, yes you can have 6 lines, but whether it’s 15 or 25 characters, it’s still extremely small and can’t fit even half a URL if you want to direct people to your forums, etc.

The OSP MOTD in original RtCW supported 80 characters in each line, the new MOTD support in ET doesn’t support half of that.

I’m also disappointed with people’s responses “don’t play it then” “it’s a free game” blah blah

This forum is for feedback, i’m giving feedback. If people gave up and didn’t play a game because they don’t like 1 particular thing, I think you’d find a lot of empty gaming communities. Just because “this isn’t RtCW”, doesn’t mean you can’t draw from experiences learned in RtCW. The game is based on RtCW and includes much of the original gameplay and style.

(BlackDeath) #16

Hey, now we are being a little steriotypical, aren’t we

Lol, j/k, i mean, im 15, and i started online play when i was 13. God, i swear i was more mature than some of these little **** out there :bash:

I mean, one yesterday tried to kick me because i had XP over 1000, and his excuse was “Your a stupid ****, play with your own kind, cheater”

???

I would have NEVER thought of saying something like this today, or even when i was younger. Its rude, inconsiderate, and just plain stupid.

I hope that the new GUID will be effective in filtering out these inconsiderate people.

“If people gave up and didn’t play a game because they don’t like 1 particular thing”

I count 14 things you don’t like in your post. I can’t think of anything that I have that if there were 14 things wrong with it I would actually use it. Something that has 14 things wrong with it, is what is called “fucked”.

(O2.iceman) #18

Not true…

If there’s 1000 things I like about it, then 14 things I don’t like is small in comparison.

But while i’m here (it is the topic of the thread after all), fireteams!

The best thing about fireteams is the team overlay menu! You should have an option (at least, an option please) of being able to turn on a team overlay whether you’re in a fireteam or not.

At least with a fireteam you can see your teammates position and health at a glance.

Please include an option to be able to turn on the team overlay when you’re not in a fireteam!

Just to add to Iceman’s gripes (most of which I agree), I think:

  1. We could really use the old thompson / mp40 / grenade click sounds.

  2. The revive indicator on the compass still needs a bit of work. Trouble with it is that when your teammate falls far away from you, you won’t know whether he needs a health pack or a revive. The old compass is better in this area i.e. it draws the revive icon on the compass rim and scale it proportionally according to distance, instead of just showing a red arrow.

  3. The ammo indicator does not show red when you’re running out of rounds. Unless you consciously look at it or keep track (like you really can all the time in a hot fight), you’ll never notice until your gun clicks in the most critical moment (Murphy’s Law).

I wish sweets (candy) tasted the same as they did when I was a kid but then I paid for all that stuff so I can complain.
