My Custom Server - A external source of download

(Donnovan) #1

I’m mounting a custom ETQW server, but i would like to redirect the autodownload to an internet source avoiding people from downloading content from my PC/Conncection. Its a limited connection.

I need help to know how to arrange the files on that online repository. If the URL is x, then i will need to create the folders x/etqwpro/ with the EtqwPro files and x/base/ for the maps?

Thanks a lot!

Any custom server admin can help-me on this one? Scrupus, Susefreak?

(Scrupus) #3

Yes that’s correct. All the custom pk4 files you have on server must be copied there. You don’t need any other files.

Hey Don, !! the URL needs to be like this:

http://bravehardt.com/TAW/Quake_Wars/Custom_Maps/
This is the standard url for our servers.
This is the url where you set it to. Just like the game this is the basis, then you define if you are in base, etqwpro, etc.

A little sidenote if you are setting up something for yourself, try to keep the URL short, due to the 1024-bit string limitation in idtech4.
In our case you already have the above mentioned url having some 40-ish bits used in every download.
Here is more documentation about it: http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=23861

pssst, could you remove this one please, or move it some obscure place where people won’t find it easily? It’s slowly ruining my reputation cough  :infiltrator:

Will do sir.

What’s so bad about Arcis Pro, Scrupus?

(Ashog) #8

hehe, managed to download it in the meanwhile.

Ashog launches arcis a2 pro

Files without addon.conf make scrupus (and me too) very sad.

(Donnovan) #10

Lack of addon.conf is not something to shame about. Its a minor error.

Thanks for the help guys! I will try to find some place to put my files and pay attention on the url lenght.

[/QUOTE]

Wrong - it’s a major error! If a user put that pro file in his base folder, his client will restart when he connects to a normal etqw server. Same as you see when connecting to custom server from vanilla client. Problem is that most people won’t know what is causing it, and get frustrated.

It’s less harmful if it’s put in mod folder rather than base, but ideally all custom paks should have an addon.conf. But of course that introduce another problem - it’s harder to load them without a campaign pak…

This is an unfortunate design flaw with the idtech pure system :frowning:

So as a rule of thumb - every pak in base should have an addon.conf. paks without it, should be put in mod folders.

(Donnovan) #12

Looking this way, yes. But a error that is amazingly easy to correct, cant be a big error at all.

(Scrupus) #13

It’s easy to correct the file itself yes, but it’s not so easy to replace the incorrect file on every computer that has downloaded it, if it was already distributed - as the arcis_pro pak for example so hurtfully have reminded me…

(Donnovan) #14

I cant find internet file host that maintain the folder structure so ETQW can access the files via URL. All of them associate a random number to the file and not the folder structure were the file is.

Anyone know of a solution host? Thanks in advance!

You could give dropbox a try.

Read your pm.
