My conclusions after playing ET on public servers for 2 week

Hey!

I’m SaTTaN from clan epsylon (rtcw clan) and i’ve ben playing ET for some time now…
This last week more than 40h I think :stuck_out_tongue:

here are my comments on things that should/could get fixed so ET would be an even more enjoyable game :slight_smile:

(it’s quite a list so I dont place comment in order of importance :p)

  1. first of all a question lots of people have been talking about and that I resolved by buying a new graphics card… Could picmip settings be readded so older graphics cards could play ET with enough FPS too? Picmip wasn’t really the command that made RTCW easyer for tweakers… gamma and intensity were :).

  2. Since ET is quite a new game and a lot of people are infamiliar with the RTCW tricks/stuff, I get a lot of complaints when I play medic and kill/revive a player… :confused: Could it be possible to add a server-side cvar/command to disable complaint popups totally on the clients side (like the cg_complaintpopup 0 but fot the server).

  3. Votes : in rtcw once you would have casted your vote, the vote text would become small and would say something like “vote cast” or comething. Now when you vote there’s an entire text on your screen saying “you have voted on…”. Could that be disabled so votes arn’t so disturbing anymore?

  4. I’m experiencing some trouble with reloading weapons : eg. I shoot with the thompson, press reload very fast (while still firing) but the gun doesn’t reload… you have to press the reload button after the gun has stopped shooting. Is this a bug/mistake or has this been done on purpouse? It’s quite anoying to try and shoot at a guy with a '“reloaded” gun when it’s actually down to the last bullet :confused:

  5. The airstrikes… At first the airstrikes were a real problem for me, I didn’t understant that the field ops, by gaining XP, also gained another fire support passage. Once I understood that things became easyer. Now something else bothered me. You don’t hear the airstrike planes till it’s too late. Hasd that also been done on purpouse or is the airstrike sound been changed without knowdessing?
    my tips : restore the RTCW airstrike sound or make it appear faster and maybe a bigger air support smoke grenade when the airstrike is dubble (so we can actualy know when it will be over).

  6. I know the grenades blast radius has been diminished… I find that dissapointing because grenades/gunz were so well balanced in RTCW. If I had to choose i’d take the blast radius from rtcw again… (but hey… that’s not my choice)

  7. Very disturbing to loose XP when one of your “noob” teammates walks on one of your mines… Could that complaint popup (just for the mines) be disabled? I understand that some teamkillers might take advantage of that to put landmines in front of friendly spawn but… everything can’t be perfect can it? :slight_smile:

  8. Another one of my thought isn’t possible I think : keeping your XP when you disconnect/reconnect to the same server during the same round… If that can’t be done I understand… maybe requiers too many changes to the engine.

  9. In the same direction : Would it be possible to keep frags/deaths when you swap teams during a round? Sometimes you want to balance teams but you loose all your kill/death record with it. Too bad imo.

  10. Something disturbing but easy to fix i think : The rate of appearence of events in the bottom left corner of the screen. When you know there are 3 guys behind the corner, throw a grenade at them and kill some of them. You have to wait like 1-2 secs to be shure you killed all of them or just to know the number of killz you made… If you had know only one was left (prolly damaged) you would have jumped into battle with a gun… however now you have to wait and if that guy (the survivor) was a medic, he will have the time to revive the other guys and so on…
    my suggestion : Make a command (if it already exist could you tell me?) that permits you to get these events (the kills/objective taken etc.) in real time?

  11. When you watch someone or try to fire for effect yourself on an object and it says “insuficiant fire support”, well when you click like 10 times, the guy will say 10 times “insufficiant fire support” even if you stopped doing it 10 secs ago…

  12. I, and some others, have knowtissed the Axis medic model ressembles too much of the allied one. Most of the axis wear long “gestapo” clothes except for the medic… Could the original rtcw model be restored or another model be made who looks lees like an allied?

  13. This one is, I think something that already exists but I’m not sure : Can the time between maps/rounds be made smaller (the time you have to look at stats/rewards etc.). Because when you play last man standing mode, you spend more time in stats menu than in real game… :slight_smile:

That’s all I can come up with at the moment… Hope some of my questions/requests can be answered :slight_smile:

Those suggestions are pretty much moot points.

They could go either way, I personally like the game exactly as it is.

Maybe you have set your reload option wrong in the menu? Try to set Autoreload on or off. Hope that helps.

I think SD made the right choice, and leave it up to the serveradmins and the players to decide what to do with the problem. If it’s really that bad, try playing on a ff=off server or an actively adminned server.

It punishes the ones who are trying to get good teamplay, this is pretty bad indeed.

The kill messages do lag behind, very annoying since you have to wait for confirmation.

The axis medic does look… let’s say… not as good as the other axis.

    Maybe you have set your reload option wrong in the menu? Try to set Autoreload on or off. Hope that helps.

dont thinks so… been playing rtycw for almost 2 years (from the beginning) and commands should work just fine.

dont thinks so… (the command you’re giving is really not a good command at all… :stuck_out_tongue: should start with pb_…)

Right… :confused: when you’re in battle you dont “hear the cans it the floor” ^^

the dropping of packs is kind of weird too, if you drop them, you pick them up yourself most of the time. :frowning: thats really annoying.
also the sound overwriting. if i have a nade and i hear the clicks. but then someone shoots and the clicks are gone :frowning: same with dynamites

    Right… :confused: when you’re in battle you dont “hear the cans it the floor” ^^

Never have a problem with not hearing the cans hitting the floor… Oh well.

All of the issues you posted about have been discussed at length in many other threads.

ET is huge fun, and I hope all the old RTCWers will come over and play ET, we need a bigger cadre of experienced players on pub servers.

About your airstrike problem: (If I’ve misunderstood your post then I apologise)

Airstrikes are supposed to be an offensive weapon. They are meant to kill you. The more warning you give the enemy, then the less effective the airstrike will become. IMO, the sound of the can and the large plume of smoke is plenty of warning, if you still get caught after that then, congratulate the enemy field ops on doing his job.

The great thing about having 2 passes with the high level field ops, is that it catches the enemy out. They see the first strike and think its over. Then, when they start to move, the get hit by the second. By giving notification that there will be a second strike (either by more smoke, or other means) you are negating this effect.

Just my 2 cents. As I said, sorry if I misunderstood your post.

Of all the issues you mentioned, I dont consider any of them as deal enders … its got me playing it full time, I actually forgot there were any other video games out there : )
